Saturday night there will be a group BBQ at $5 per head. Shoudl save everyone bringing heaps of food.
Please let Wes know if you want to be catered for at the BBQ.
Cheers,
Brad ·
Almost Time :>

Yeh it should be great. Shame some of us slacker members have not finished their buggies yet. :cry
$2.63 homebrand baja ·
I wanted desperately to come along, to see what all you buggy boys get up to, but alas my bug is still being fixed! Have fun. Hope to get along to the tech day, hmmm, could even get baja in enough order for the wheelies day,,,(but methinks whoever landed a ride in my car may feel like they have drawn the short straw!lol....😉
Baja Wes ·
well the weather is predicted to be 41 degrees on both the saturday and the sunday, so it should be horrible 🙁
Be sure to bring your swimming gear.
Man I wish I had've finished the air con over xmas.....

Would only keep Megan cool as you will be spending your time sitting on teh side of the tracks you won't go up with the Video Camera :thumb
We need footage for Crusty Buggies of the Park vol 1 :thumb😎

Yikes, that's ridiculous. How good would AC be in an offroad VW..... hmmm thoughts for the next Manx project.
Looking forward to it, hope there's a good swimming hole in the park somewhere?
Baja Wes ·
Heather, your welcome to come along without your Baja. See if you can talk a friend into coming along and driving you there. You should be able to get a convential car close to the camp site.
There are quite a few people that will be there without offroad vw's, just there for the social and spectating side.
I need to know BBQ people by the end of today (5pm).
Andy42 ·
If anyone wants to come along in a dirty old holden ute they are welcome just bring ya own swag or tent and ya sweet. Sorry No Air Con 😀
Boozer ·
Can I come? I'll only be able to come but I won't be able to make the saturday morning meet as I have to work till noon. Can I still show up later and if so where will I be able to find you at the park? Camping is $15 or so is that for tents and stuff? are there any restrictions on fires/ gas stoves etc etc.?
Brad ·
Yep you can come, the more the better. We will leave a map at the front office of where we will be camping so you can find the site easy enough. Will be on channel 10 UHF if that helps you.
Come one come all 😀
Boozer ·
Don't be suprised if I don't show, cause it is a possiblity at best depending on work and baja and what's happening. I should really get a UHF radio hey? well you'll hear deafening, all powerful roar of the uberbaja coming anyway.😀

🙁 My poor little Non-Doghouse Cooler is not gonna like running in that sort of heat....

Yeah hoping to get my convential Nissan Patrol right up to the campsite.
Probably sleep in it to with the A/C cranked right up.

We went, and it was hot. very hot. very very very hot. Did I mention it was hot?
Anyway, apart from the heat it was a fun trip. It would've been much better if it wasn't so hot as then we would've had more energy, but it was still fun!
It's always entertaining watching Brad and Dyno. Dyno has the toughest buggy out of all of us, and so can do some pretty impressive hills. Brad on the otherhand has the least respect for machinery out of all of us, and also can do some pretty impressive hills 😀
Here's a few pics.
We had 4 buggies, 1 Baja, 1 kombi, 1 holden ute, and 1.5 4wds. We should've had more but there was some very unique circumstances that prevented some people from being there.
11CAB ·
Cool......anymore pics....any of the Kombi?
Rustbucket68 ·
Yeah... More pics.. I want a Buggy:cry
Andy42 ·
An excelent weekend and Yeh Wes was right HOT. But as my first outing with the buggy club it was excelent. I must also say again a big thanks to Dyno for driving me around in his buugy. It is an Awsome machine and I was suprised to see some of the places both it and brads could go. All in all to those who missed out you missed a great time.:P:P Oh and of course thanks to Daz(Cook) and the girls for a great meal saturday night 😀
11CAB ·
I heard a rumor that they wouldn't let 2wd vehicles into the park.....is that true? did you guys get special permission to get in or is that just crap??
Andy42 ·
it is just crap. I even got me HQ ute in there with all its 6 inch ground clearance. Hmmm so it scraped here and there😀😀

Andy42 wrote:All in all to those who missed out you missed a great time.:P:P
:P to you andy! looks like you all had funnnn! I couldn't raise a ride, toyed with the idea of hopping into a strange holden ute....with some weirdo posting the offer over the net....to journey to some strange park.....to play in the dirt......:o.... as I said I couldn't get a lift, let alone borrow a car (hmmm whos been blabbin bout my driving?)... on upside my car should be ready tomorrow............. a day or 2 late! 😠 ahh well next time... :bounce I got new shockies :bounce ...... to kill!lol
Brad ·
Well we went, we had fun and I got to give my Buggy some loving :thumb what more could you ask for ??? well temp under 30 would be good :P
For those of you who have been to LCMP before you will be please to know that the Buggies , well Dyno's and Mine made it through Cruiser Canyon ( classed as EXTREME !!! 4WD Track) with Dyno getting some minor rim rash and my Buggy giving the rocks a little kiss :kiss
The kombi that came was the 77 Camper and it was there for a bed and luggage capacity not off road capability. LCMP would KILL a kombi due to the COG of them.
Thanks to all that came and I am sure next time will have to be a little cooler. I knwo An:treedy is keen as mustard to join the buggy loving crew and give his beast the attention it needs. We have a trip to Black Duck 4WD park planning in the next few months so mark it down now if you are keen.
I didn't get many photos as I was to busy having fun. Dazcat got a few with my Camera. We did get about 2hrs of Video which should crop down to 30 mins of full on Buggy Loving ACtion .... I have seen about 90mins of it and I am pretty impressed my Buggy still drives :P
Maybe next time .. :thumb
Anyway here are some photos........
The kombi Camper with Buggy in Tow. I must say there is much more room for stuff in a kombi than a Buggy.
The rear end of the DYNO4 as it gets over a foot high log in the middle of a muddy section. Nothing but speed was any good here.
Even with the Dry weather, there was still plenty of sludge in the creek.
mmmmm.mud and momentum.. two of my favourite things.
Getting up close and friendly with some of the local rocks.

WTF ??? I respect Machinery ... I respect it was created so I could abuse it and find out what I needed to get a Gusset next time so I could get further up the hill.:P
I must say though my 45hp type 1 did work rather well and I think I would die if I had a 1915. Also I can not rate the 181 front end high enough. A stock BJ frontwould have died on day 1.
The video supports all these claims... man that baby screem and the front end gets some lovin :thumb:thumb😎
MikeM ·
I was there! It was a great weekend, met some cool people and I learnt a few things.
While I've owned my Stocko Manx (Swing Axle, Link Pin, 1640cc single port) for 4 or so years I've never really driven in it hard terrain, just the beach and around town. I've spent most of my time offroad in high powered mud racers, not buggies.
So this weekend I finally gave the Manx a run somewhere other than the beach. I was fairly impressed with were you can get a fairly stocko buggy like mine to go. Not that I followed Brad and Dyno everywhere, but a stock Manx would go most places a stock 4x4 would go. Allot faster and a lot more fun 🙂
Of course Brad and Dynos well modified cars will go places a well modified 4x4 will go.
I'd love a tough buggy like Dynos... 😀
The heat wasn't toooo bad, for me the worst bit was driving home on Sunday. Dam hot on the freeway. Sat night was allot cooler at LCMP than in Brisbane from what I've heard about Brissie temps Sat night.
My little non-doghouse 1640 SP doesn't have a temp gauge but the oil pressure gauge showed *some* oil pressure all weekend. So it's survived. 🙂
My only problem all weekend was my tent and it's inability to hold itself up :P
It was a gerat weekend. Thanks to the Club for Organising it, Thanks to the guys who organised dinner Sat night. It was very nice. And thanks Daz for bringing all the water we could ever need.
I'd love to check out the video in it's unedited format so if you guys are having a vid viewing let me know, maybe at the Tech day?
Thanks again,
Mike

I am sure we can organise a Video get togeather before we edit it .... We have enough meat left for a BBQ.
Looks like the Tech Day will be getting moved to a Much better place than my filthy shed :thumb
Going to do it at Custom Offroad ... details up on the website soon ..
daz67 ·
Hot Hot and more Hot, that pretty much sums it up and that was from inside my AirCond Nissan.
Quote Mic: "It was a gerat weekend. Thanks to the Club for Organising it, Thanks to the guys who organised dinner Sat night. It was very nice. And thanks Daz for bringing all the water we could ever need.

Yeah Yeah, I know, let the water jokes flow. Pardon the Pun.
Anyway, We should get together for a BBQ and Video night, this Saturday. For those attending Sundays event you are welcome to stay over and cruise down Sunday.
more buggy action pics, it's a pity I can't take more pics of myself 😀

Brad, how did you find the Kombi towing the buggy? I'm thinking of doing similar with my manx when it does get on the road.
Brad ·
Kombi couldn't get out of teh park towing the buggy. Seems bald 14" road tyres don't grip real well.
What is sundays event ?

Yeah Yeah, Water under the bridge now!!!!
But really, Next time I make sure the dam water tank is full, and maybe take someone elses Patrol. Haven't priced the replacement tail light yet and still to see if the rear guard is able to be buffed out or repainted. Oh Yeah and still have to fix the side steps!!!!
Man these Buggy trips are hard on the 4WD. Might have to Take my Buggy Next time.
:cry

So daz does that meen you will need a cool new buggy trailer as well😀

Unfortunately I couldn't make it on Saturday night. One of My Girlfriend's mates was having a birthday party.
The GF has to come before the car sometimes.
Anyway, I hope there's some good video footage. I would have like to have seen the video unedited as my fairly tame driving will probably not make it onto the next manx club DVD. I was keen to see what had been taken of my car, and what it looked like from the outside.
If I can borrow a copy of the unedited material that would be great. 🙂
Hope you guys had a good night, and didn't get too sunburnt Sunday.

Wow u have more than one and you still have time for buggies :thumb:thumb

Dont discount Kombis from there. We went to landcruiser mountain 3 years ago in our 70 dual cab(complete with 1600t.p. and slipping clutch) and drove on a few tracks around the park without any dramas. Our friends had to leave their commodore at the entrance so we had to cart all their gear in our truck to our campsite (15minutes drive from entrance). This is the place where I converted my friend to the benefits of 300mm clearance an excellent traction, considering it only had 235/75s on the back. Ironically we went there in winter and all that was missing was the snow. It was BLOODY FREEZING which is worse than BLOODY HOT when your camping. So I reckon spring or autumn are the go. Anyway If you guys are coming to blackduck valley I'll have to come out and say HI,( Its only 20 minutes from our place) . I might even put the ute back together for a run out there. Remember the kombi's C.O.G is lower than a 4wd's.

Double Quote"Remember the kombi's C.O.G is lower than a 4wd's. "
What the!!!!!
Having followed a Kombi Offroad during the Night Nav run for the Manx Club, I would have to say, This statement may be a little, Incorrect!!!:vader
I'm Happy for you to prove me wrong, but as I said following Graham in his Baja Kombi, I was happy to be driving a Buggy.
Kombi's are cool and all that, but they do have limitations. No way you would catch me on some of those hills in a Kombi.
Brad ·
Man having owned a kombi I would have to say the COG is much higher than my Jacked Hilux. I will have both buggy and Hilux at Black Duck so will happily go hill climing with you if you like.
