A Sydney Cruise , lazy day !!

I've posted again retitled in the hope of a better response.

No show and shine ! no drag racing !no swap meets! Just a load of vw's in one beautiful place. Thats right , an unoffical gathering of vw's from all over the Sydney areas and beyond. Read on ..............

The idea is to have a cruise -in using Centenial Park in the Eastern Suburbs. The place is a massive oval in great parkland with parking everywhere. Great to cruise around as it's 25k's speed limit. Plenty of places to stop eat , let kids go nuts or should that be stop ,go nuts and eat your kids , i don't know , i digress. No problems with rangers etc aslong as folk behave.
This is a mega venue for a cruise in!
The idea is to get as many dubs together as possible. I'm not trying to get an event together just a heap of people out for a days cruising around . Bring food and drink and look forward to a day out in the park with your vw mates! Maybe an ideal time to collect for the 2 girls recently hurt in an RTA? I have spoke to a few others on the forum about this and want to make it happen . So i am and here's a date

14 March 10am onwards

I know it may be short notice etc but even if you only have a drive around and stay 10 mins it doesn't matter ! This is only a trial but this has the makings of a very relaxed day and alot of FUN for all. If it goes okay maybe another in a few months? Anyone up for it?

Getting good. I really think the idea of cruise-ins are the way to go. No pressures , turn up when you want , see some cars , meet some folk. I don't know about anyone else but i mostly use my bug on w'ends only and love just to get out and have the chance to cruise abit. Just hope we can get as many passing through as possible.

I was going to have a drive over this Sun and have a look but could meetlater this week , just about. We need to be in a quieter part of the park , by the Queenspark / Randwick part would be good. Just keep away from the barby and shop areas. Place is built to be a cruise-in ! I'll be in touch:thumb😀:thumb

So how many stickers do you need sir ?

I didn't know what to say so i had to go away and rethink this.

Looking on the bright side i reckon so far about say 16 cars / people have said they are interested. Cool , good , promising but lets face it pretty piss poor. Out of the 16, 50% will drop out , that gives 8! Now if you think i'm going to get 8 stickers made , i'm not! LOL , gotta laugh.

Seriously out of 2000 members , god knows how many mates etc we have to do better and make an effort you lazy sods.Yes i know we are all over the place etc and have commitments jobs , etc etc etc. For those that could , even if you just get there for an hour , weather permitting , if everyone trys to get there , i promise you'll have a decent time.

I would like to go back to the guy and tell him i'll need at least 100! C'mon guys and girls , lets make this something good. !

One thing! Does anyone have a large tent or similar , whatever, that we can use as a focal point for the meet , etc and hang a big banner off!? As i'm poor , there are no sponsors and at the moment theres little interest any help would be good.

One very last thing , just imagine.... A sunny day , vw's parked everywhere , happy faces , lots of people doing their 'thing' and knowing that it was worth giving up your only day for a sleep in that you have and the day before getting a shine on your dub!

Can't make it dude.
I am having my interior installed on the 11th and i am not sure how long that will take.
Also my club (shoalhaven VW) have an invitation to show some cars at a Germania Day in woolongong.
So if my car is ready i will be expected to show up there.

It would be so good to see as many people together for a cruise in. If your cars off the road bum a lift from a mate and get there , aircooled , watercooled whatever.

Last plug of me but this is how i've been looking at this cruise.

We all want to drive our cars

We all want to meet up with other VW's

We're all skint from spending too much money on our cars

Everyone's after a cheap thrill

If Cen Park gets going we're laughing. A regular place to meet and cruise in Sydney. Just turn up and expect to see alot more dubs bombing around than you normally would. If it works in So Cal i'm sure we can make it work in Oz!!

Firstly thanks to everyone for turning up. 7 cars is a good start , especially as the weather was looking rather moody. Positive thinking kept the rain away !!! Thanks to Wayne and his wife for the coffee and the rangers for being pretty cool with us being there , no worries for next time and so much room is great!.

Well i said if we had 5 or more it would be classed as a goer , so , it's a goer and we will arrange more for the future.

After alot of caffine and chats an outline has been agreed for the next steps.

To keep this as open as possible to all in Sydney we will have 3 venues to cruise to. One in North shore which has already proved itself , Cen Park in the East and another out West. Meaning no more than an hours drive for most folk. Each month their would be a cruise at one of the venues and would basically rotate from venue to venue each month. Also the day would change each time to try and meet everyone's needs.

This is where i need some help. This is an informal cruise in , clubs are more than welcome to attend but these cruises will stay informal and not club run. Everyone's feedback today has backed that up , just people off the aussieveedubbers forum etc all mucking in and making it something . However there is a little organisation required obviously and as this IS GOING TO WORK promotion is required.

The plan is once we have some dates drawn up each venue needs someone to promote it. I'm happy to help with the Eastern venue . The folk that organised the last North shore could look after that which just leaves the West TBA.

These cruises are needed and as today shows it's great to meet up for a few hours , have a chat , check stuff out and put faces to names.

Getting seven cars together is a great result for a 1st cruise, certainly enough to organise others.

For a venue out West, there's a v. nice Japanese garden we used to visit out to the west, can't recall the name, lots of parking.. someone in Sydney will know it.

Auburn Botanical Gardens...
Just near Rookwood Necropolis. Which in itself is an awesome cruise around the old Presby, Catholic and Anglican sections...

YES, the first monthly meeting of the "white VW onwers" club was great ... in joke with those that were there.... 7 vws... all of them some form of white in colour 😀

I have to agree a great morning was had by all.....and I am keen to bring the Coffee Van to the next one too......so VW people in the west, time to get planning so we can all gather, talk VW and drink espresso coffee....(for free of course...if you own a vee dub!!!)
