I AM INTERESTED TO SEE PHOTOS OF 71 KOMBIS OR ATLEAST GET AN IDEA OF HOW MANY ARE OUT THERE. I AM ABOUT TO PURCHASE ONE AND AS I HAVE BEEN LOOKING AROUND I GET THE IMPRESSION THAT THEY ARE UNCOMMON. I THINK THEY LOOK GREAT!!
72TWINCAB ·
68 to 71 are the same. 72 has the same front but different back. I love the old bays, they look very sweeet.
You will find that the 68 to 71 kombis are not as common as the later models.
kombiluva ·
As that I have not heard back form you I take it you are not interested in the purchase of my bus???
Could you email/phone to confirm this.
Regards
Mick Hall

And the 72 (especially the deluxe) with old front and new back is the rarest of them all..
soulsurfer ·
So, how rare are they? Would still love to see any pics of members rides in the "early bay" range. I have searched the rides section but didnt find much...that may be point!:alien
VolksFolks ·
I have a 72 microbus deluxe in great condition, has low front indicators and a 72 + rear end, just fantastic bus and yeh very rare, orange with a white roof, with original seats mmm

so let me get this right the 69-71 is the same and then there is a hybrid of sorts with the 72, early bay front and later back end? Are these (69-72) years harder to get parts for?

I had a 71 deluxe microbus which i just sold. 71 kombis are great, they still have the smaller tail lights but are fitted with disk brakes. One of the best bays i rekon🙂

68-71 where all the same but the 71 was fitted with disks. 72 has the same front as the early ones with the low blinkers but has the same rear as a later bus with the large lights, bigger air vents and you cant remove the rear apron.
I think thats right? im not totaly sure.
Alex.

I didnt realise the disc brakes where stock on that year...thanks...would still love to see some pics!!!
By the way...when i get this kombi...I will be looking at getting the underneath rust proofed/coated, what is the best material to use and who does it up in the Gold Coast/Northern NSW region?

I have read the many threads on this debate about using unleaded vs LRP and I am still confused and do not have a clue who to listen to. If a nonmodified 1600 is being used what petrol can I use, and do I have to have anything done to the engine?
typ-fre ·

You have hi-jacked your own post.
do not have a clue who to listen to
me (summarising gobs of discussion, informed and everyday opinion).
If a nonmodified 1600 is being used what petrol can I use
any, but ulp is the most appropriate for this low-compression engine.
do I have to have anything done to the engine
no.
You will also read that you should/should not add valve lubricant, octane improver, premium unleaded petrol and/or a gob of spit with every tank/every second tank/never ever. It's your money, but the answers to your questions are above.
