Just got the latest VW Trends which I don't normally buy but there was nothing else at the Newsagent, & on the back cover they had what was going to be in the next VW Trends. It is a dyno day with one of the high profile Cal-Look clubs in California & they are going to print all the results & specs of the motors.
I was going to put my car back on the dyno next week before I pull the motor down to make some changes over Xmas but I thought it would be way cool if we do our own thing in Sydney. I don't know of any dyno's in Sydney so some suggestions or help would be most appreciatted, I'm sure that if it cost about $30 or so to get your car on the rollers & we had about 20 vw's , a dyno operator would be more than happy to have us there on a Saturday Morning.
What do u guys think? good idea , bad idea. I'd actually prefer a dyno day to a car show any day, I just love high performance VW's!

Jak

That sounds like fun.....time to put all them cards on the table!!!!馃榾
jakriz 路
Yeh Pete I thought it would be pretty cool, we won't be competing for sheep stations, it would be just interesting to see what different combos put out as none have the same engine.

I would be in now that Blue is better.
There is one at Silverwater (SAS) on Silverwater Road and another one in Parramatta somewhere......
BUT
Last time my mate got his 3.0 CS BMW done a few years ago it was about $110.....but he got about 90 mins for that.
I guess some one might be interested in a pure measure run...no adjustments.
jakriz 路
Yeh just purely a measure run Barry. The last time that I used a dyno which was about 120 months ago it cost me $30. I put it on the dyno, took a few readings at different rpms & I was out of there 15 minutes later. I don't let anyone touch my car anyway!
I think that it would be a good thing

heh i betcha i would beat all of you with my beasty 1600 SP, eat all of my ~40HP @ the wheels!
Grey 57 路
Can we organise something like this in Melbourne too.
Would love to know how much axle breaking torque my 1600 SP is making.

lol... i will kik your asses! It does 0-100!

I wonder if the 1300 will turn the rollers?

Maybe you should find a lawn mower shop with a dyno?
Bizarre 路
Jak
sounds great - I will give SAS a call and try and dig up a few others.
Bizarre 路
OK
Just spoke to a bloke called Ben at Port Hacking Automotive and he said yeah - around $40 per head. He is busy up to Xmas but in the new year during the week or on the weekend.
I said approx 12 people and as you say Jak - just for a couple of blats. Ben said it excludes air fuel ratio readings but that could be done just a few extra $$$$$$$$ as it is a limited life meter
I got his name from CSC @ Burwood and they say he has a good set up.
OK - who else is interested :bounce:bounce:bounce

Book me in......Speedster & Spyder.
I hope I have the 1916 in?馃榾

I put the mustard menace on the rollers with a performanceforums.com dyno day, it was around $50 a run at Croydon Autosports.
the stock 1600TP with bugger all compression at the time put out a STONKING 25.4 RWkW 馃榾
Happy to attend another one!
jakriz 路
sounds excellent Barry, thanks for getting that info. $40 sounds fine, we should maybe do it around Febuary , just before the Nationals drags??
We could even make it a yearly thing, that way we could keep tabs on whats happening every 12 months with improvements??
I'm open to all suggestions. oh & it would be a good chance to meet some of u guys as I'm a little isolated up here on the Central Coast!

I'm in , I'll take the Golf out again , I got 85kw last time , might try cracking 100 kw with some cams and a chip
Hutcho 路
Count me in, I dont know what Ill take, but it'll be something from VW!! (I mean from my garage which originally came from VW).
Pete, how do you drive both cars at the same time! Ive always wanted to be able to do that, dammit!
Hutcho
Hutcho 路
Secoh, 25 rwkw!! (long drawn out whistle) Im sure the other guys from performanceforums.com were mightily impressed! Im sure some of them wanted to even swap you thier GTR'S!! Why dont we have a little thing where we'll see who has LEAST amount of kw out of thier registered, street driven VW! I know Ill be force to recon with! Clocked 4 times, 69 micro with 1500sp ball tearin' power!! Hopefully, Ill get there on time as long as theres no hills on the way!

Barry, whereabouts exactly is this dyno?
I'm not very good with the typography of Sydney, is it any where near Richards??
Jak
Bizarre 路
Unfortunately this is down at Tarren Point/Carringbah way. I have attatched a link at the bottom
I talked to Richard last night and he said he wants to take the turbo. I will give SAS a call today - they are closer to him
OK
SAS said Ok too but he wants $50 per car, based on a dozen cars.
These are all "just asking" prices so.....
He prefered a Saturday and said a maximum of 30 cars. I would come down to $45 if there were $30
Here is the link to that place.
Hmmm.....bloody long address. I will post then might have to edit
Probabally need to start getting names and preferences as to Silverwater or Tarren Point
jakriz 路
Yeh I just spoke to Rich Barry. He's keen to get my car on the dyno with the improvements I'll be doing over Xmas & also Joe's 2.8Litre type 4 monster as well!! It may give the Turbo guys a run for their money!
Can't wait!
Jak
Che Castro 路
im interested ! i would love to see joe's T4, jaks and baz's on the dyno. i wanna see how i can blow em all away with my 25rwkw

I have a trophy store below my office, I wonder if they could make me a little trophy for the VW with the least hp at the wheels???
Jak
Secoh 路
Hutcho, it wasnt as funny as the fact that it was running quite poorly (3 and 1/2 cyls) and had a leaky kadron pipe, so some mates spread the rumour amongst the more impressionable that there was a WRX motor in it, and as a stir they dyno operator set the scale so it displayed 194rwkW 馃榾馃榾馃榾 I only took it for the comedy factor :P
Grey 57 路
I reackon thats a great idea. Was thinking about it last night. We could have an interstate Dyno comp.
Categories for most power, least power and closest to factory output for stockers.
I was serious about wanting to do this in Melb. Any other takers? :bounce
vdub2c 路
hey guys, either taren point or silverwater is all good, just as far for me either way...
i'll be there with my subaru powered beast... but it don't put out much hp... so no one has to fear...
my mate always wan'ts in with his stocker 1600tp bug.
is there room?
thanks guys, let us know dates, venues and what we're all doing for a cruise after we know how slow, err fast our rides go.
nice work fellas! :bounce
jakriz 路
I say either a trophy for the lowest or no trophy at all, just to keep the competition aspect low & the fun factor high!
Jak
vw54 路
DEan the interstate think would be good if you could STANDARDISE all the dynomoters in each state.
take the same car to 10 different places and you will NO doubt get 10 different readings
Jak should i bring the 1500 SP.... gotta get one for lowest then,
Grey 57 路
Dave, could you factor in a margin of error percentage?
jakriz 路
Yeh Dave , definantly come along, it would be good to catch up.
As for the dyno's being out, I've heard that its as much as 20%!
The last time I put my car on the dyno it had only 92hp @ the wheels, unfortunantly the dyno that I used has closed down & I've changed the cam since last time so I won't be able to see the difference. I've found a new one which I'm hopefully going to next week to take a reading before I pull it down over Xmas for improvements. Will be interesting to see the difference in dyno's
Jak
Hutcho 路
Jak, This idea of yours is...TOPS! At first I felt there is no way id go to that but Secoh has really changed my mind. He's taught me that these are exercises in FUN!!
Secoh, The dyno op would have to do some real tweakin' to his dyno to get it to read THAT measurement from my car! I reckon Im a shoe in for the LOWIES trophy!
OvalGlen 路
I think mine would get the highest power out of a standard 34pict and would be a good comparison for if I ever get the blower finished. I'll put in a very interested vote." A possible".
Great Idea.
jenz58 路
OK if I had a third it would be out there to DRAG!!!!
In my earlier days I used to go to the speed ways and drag races a lot and used to think I could Drag anyone off. Bel stays as she is but if I ever find the one that I reckon suits modifying and I buy it, then I'm in:bounce
Not racing though, I like the surge of take off:thumb
Did I say all that:o

Shall I give SAS a call & book us all in for the first Saturday Morning of Febuary? I was thinking that this gives about 5 - 6 weeks to get ourselves organised, myself included. Does this suit everyone?
Jak
70AutoStik 路
Hey, guys: 25.4kw rear wheel equates to an estimated 46HP at the flywheel, quite respectible for a reliable (read non-US) result for a SP! I'd love to see some figures for "stockers" amongst the results - it'd give us all something to aim for, and the "stockers" an idea of what their "tweaks" have produced (or how sick their enginges are...) Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it, I'm starting a new job soon, (otherwise I'd be proud to have a "starting" figure before my rebuild.)
More power to ya!

Can i come, can i come this is going to be a shoe in for me,thanks for the trophy 1300sp stock as a rock and burns just over a litre of oil every 1000kms.

A couple of dates 4 yar... Club Vee Dub has runs on Sat 8,9 and Sun 23 Feb.
so dont book it on these dates.
Dean there is NO way you could allow a percentage error. The only way to do it is have all cars run on the same machine under the same weather conditions etc etc etc, however unless they have a weather station like a jet engine test cell, calculation can be made. But we would be lucky if the guys running it can tune the cars on it.
