one thing with VW motors is how easy thay are to pull apart and reassembe while my bug was in the paint shop I eliminated all my oil leaks by putting a gausket kit in the motor it cost 40 bucks plus a rear seal and about one weekends work and now I can park anywhere ,so yes degrease the engine to see what you are up aganst and unless its just a generator stand or fuel pump gausket faillure then pull that baby down.
