Here's some recent pics. For now it's staying this way but my addiction to the drags will see the car change abit. Some Erco's 4 &6's are being ordered next month and this time next year will see a nice quick motor and box . Want some 1/4 fun going on! Car will end up being a mix of resto / cal / drag style. The door panels were brought back to life using using a cunning mix of boot polish , Kero and a lubricant thats used for chains from an slaughter house. Works so well on any black trim.

Busy few days . Managed to get the cage i was after. After looking through California look VW for the millionth time alot of the cars ran 3 point cages and luckily enough 1302 Steve had one (yey to pay him!)but sold. Will need either painting or polishing but will suit the car and is a step closer to how i'm styling it. retains back seat aswell! Kai i will need some black padding , cheers! LOL.
Went to tuffys today to see about a dual stinger for a merged system ( RX copy). Good price and will look and sound awesome.
Counted up my loose change pot and had $367.65 in it which is 1/3 of the price of the Erco's which means i can order them sooner.
Spoke to someone about hot motors today !

Rushed over from work, picked cage up . Came home and spent 2 hours wet and drying and polishing my new cage. It wasn't very furry or scratched and with a futher polish will be like mirror. 2 pics!

Yea the cars not been sat in alot. Appartently no-one has ever used the back seat. Chased down the original owner ( only one!) , sent her a pic and she was stoked! Told me all about the car and it's history. I have the original sales reciept for the car and even the guys business card! The paperwork with the car is unreal. Nice lady aswell! I'll let you know about the rubber as i'm really after black carpet throught and under the bonnet. I'm trying to get a price .

Managed to polish up the cage enough to fit it today. Bought all the nuts , bolts , washers , made some spread plates this morning and grabbed my Makita. Got the cage in with leaving the seats in and without damage to anything!! Got it all marked out etc and guess what. My drill was as flat as a fart!!! Ahhhhh. Picking up another drill t'w and will get it bolted in. It's all a matter of taste and style but the cars going exactly in the direction i want. Also removed the headlight eyebrowsand will replace with sealed beams and some porsche style guards very soon. Few pics of cage losely in place! So chuffed! Thanks 1302 Steve!!

Seems i can't do wrong this w'end. Cage went in without dramas , got a new screen to fit and the clean up of my engine bay is done just ready for painting t'w. Also picked up a motor FOC to use for tinware etc. Lots of small things coming together , love it! Makes up for all the w'ends getting no where!

Well after putting some primer on yesturday the enging bay recieved 3 coats and thye top coat today. No dramas at all!!!
Removed the seal for a cleaner look , usless with stand-offs anyway! Going to give it time to harden properly and clean it all up later this week. I'm well chuffed with how it's come out and will look sweet with the stroker and some 48's in it instead of the 1300!!! Oh well not too long to wait!

Engine bay finished being painted , did last top coat last night and cleaned up engine today. Looks a million dollars. Few small jobs left though. Also scored some 356 rims for the back last night with good 195/65's. Hopefully by the cruise on the 4th July car they would have been dechromed and the car will run without hubcaps on satin black rims and painted drums. Very old skool! Been told the chrome is just a little pitted and will polish up fine and you know what i'm like with polishing. I'll see as i really want them satin black like they are now. Like that look and they look stock but wider and not grab too much attention from Mr Plod! Bit of a sleeper look. Holding back on the Erco's for abit now and put that money towards the motor build thanks to the 356 rims coming my way. Just what i was after!

Well with the Erco's now on wait til the motors built i decided to get something for the back and 356 rims were my choice. Rims to be satin black to match the front , no hubcaps and painted drums. Idea to get some really scruffy 356 rims , dechrome them , blast them and paint. Matara came to the party with some rims that he said were a little scruffy. Picked them up tonight and yes they WERE a little scruffy , overspray on them etc but really good 195/65's on them. One hour later , a little prepsol , a little 1500 paper and NO polish yet ( ran out) and they have come up really , really well. Far too good to dechrome!! So plans changed and i'll buy some to match the rear and forget about rims i think! Thanks Steve your a star and your collection of cars is amazing , a splitty , a KG , a notch , 356 , bay window , cabro and beetle. Lucky sod!! Anyway thanks for the rims

Good to see they turned out OK! I didnt realise you's be getting stuck into them last night! Thats determination for you!
Remember to clear coat or vaseline them otherwise they will be rusty again in a couple of months.
Look for some 4.5' 356 wheels for the front, and put some smart car 145 tyres on and you will get the old skool racer look.

LOL yes Matara it was my living room. Just put a huge plastic sheet down! Grabbed a beer , put some racing vids on and went nuts for 2 hours. Managed to get some polish on them today ( quiet at work) and they are now on , just finished . With a final quick go with a mop they're looking good on the black painted drums. Would love to get some 4.5's for the front , don't want 5.5'. Thanks again Steve.

Well the 356 rims are now on ! Love them and the tyre size is just right. Will lower tha car a notch , maybe , lose the gap. I'm still waiting for some 4" 356 front rims so i gave the standard rims a rub down and a blast of "chrome" enamel. Come out pretty good and although not chrome will do for now , gives it the look i'm after either way. Has really got the car closer to how i want it to look like. My engine project starts in the next week or so with a scat stroker engine kit being ordered. Just the start!!!

There a few different types but i'd save the money and get the good ones , alot thicker and better quality. Mine came as "Empi" but as we all know it's all cheap crap from China or somewhere. The good ones aren't cheap so i'd buy from OS or call a few of the VW shops to get an idea on price.

I'm still here! Been offline alot as i'm waiting on a laptop but been busy on the bug. Changed my mind on stance though. Too many cars running a rake so it's been slammed 2 notches. Now have my 4.5's on the front along with the speedster headlightlights. Does away with glass and i've colour matched the inside of the light unit. Look the biz , really happy with results and will post some pic's very soon. Collecting a few 356 bits and some more bling. Motor won't be far away!

Thanks for the comments folks. The grills are without doudt the best thing i've done so far. If anyone wants to know what you've gotta do , buy etc U2U me. There probably is an easier way but hey it was easy enough. Seat frames going satin black but soon to be replaced with some 356 front seats hopefully. With the addition of a few more 356 bits and bobs , new moon mirrors etc etc it's getting there slowly. I just can't wait to get a motor together , saving like crazy and getting there bit by bit. I have 2 options and either way this car will haul ass big time , eventually!! Anyway thanks again , gives me even more reason to get back in the garage and do stuff and play with my VW.
Will update with better pics soon , i'm off back to the garage.

Danny is a little sad today. My 67 is going to live in Brizzy. A very lucky ( and hot) LOL , lady called Claudia came over this morning and fell in love with the 67. She takes it on it's longest journey so far and will be missed so much. As Claudia will tell you i was banging on about it being a very special bug and welcome to the 6v era!!!
I have had alot of bugs but this car really is a clean car and very original. Just hopes she pampers it as much as i did !!!

Hey ya dannyboy!
I just woke up! Got home about 5am this morning. Buggy handled really super nicely on the way up, sat on about 60 - 60mk.p.h all the way. i went as planned, drove for 2 hours and had a rest for about half an hour, which was good for me and buggy. about half way home, the red warning light came on so i pulled over and checked the engine. it was pretty warm and the generator belt was okay (thankyou 1300 1967 manual). so i stopped for an hour and a half every now and then checking if the warning light would come on when i started up and it would. anyway, i checked everything in the manual and it was running okay so i just cruised on when the engine was cold.the red light still came on but i took more breaks. have you ever had that happen? i think i'll just give buggy a rest today, clean out my garage and wash all the bugs off buggy. see how it is tomorrow, if the red warning light still comes on, i'll take it to my mechanic. but i dont think i will need to, i have a good feeling it just needs a rest.
Anyway buggy is in safe hands, i will look after him, dont worry, i dont think i would have ever found a better buggy.
Let me know how the changing rego goes and if you find out i need to do anything with living in qld but leaving it in nsw plates.
Im still not sure of a name, i like: Floyd, Bernie (thanks to bernard fanning of powderfinger fame) Frank, George, Angus, help me out if you or anyone out there can think of a name.
