The 1964 restored Art Union Beetle now comes with personalised plates.
PPQ has donated a gift voucher, the value of which can be used to choose a personalised plate if you are the winner of the car. The choice of plate depends on availability.
Ticket order forms are available in Issue#3 of VWMA or by requesting them via the VWMA email address. Tickets will also be on sale at the VW Action Day 12th September if there are any remaining.
This is a great opportunity to win a great car, and as only 1000 tickets are being sold, the odds are pretty good. Tickets are $20 each. Net proceeds go to Qld charities and community organisations.
Cheers

In answer to a number of emails enquiring about the Art Union, tickets can be ordered by post up until the last post Friday 10th September 2004. The order form is available in the latest issue of VWMA. It is open to all states, however, the club will only deliver in the Brisbane Metro area. A Regional or interstate winner will have their prize secured and covered by club insurance until they can arrange collection. The winner is notified by phone. You don't necessarily have to be there, but imagine the joy to drive home in it if you won.
Tickets will also be on sale on the day, and will be sold in the VWDCQ tent where the car will be displayed. Action Day is on Sunday 12th September 2004 at the Clem Jones Centre, cnr Creek Road and Stanley Streets Carina Brisbane.
Personalised Plates Queensland who have donated a set of personal plates will be on hand for the winner to discuss their preference in plates.
Thanks for the great support so far. The chances of winning are very good with only 1000 tickets being sold.

This is so cool! Do you reckon any tickets will still be available on the day? Or are sales going so well that they'll be sold out beforehand?
BTW with so many different shops involved, they'll all be doing the schmicko-est job they can. After all there is honor at stake. Cant wait to see it. How about those pics?
VWMA Editor ·
Some tickets will be held exclusively for the day, as I have had many requests from people wishing to purchase tickets on Action Day.
Work still continues on the car, trimming, chrome work, etc, so I'd rather not show photos of a car not quite finished. I'll post photos the week before Action Day.

Forwarded cheque on 9th Aug using VWMA mag application form. No acknowledgement yet and cheque has not yet been deposited. Perhaps not accepting WA applications though we would definitely fly over and pick it up.

Yes, cheque received and ticket on the way. Been inundated with orders so there was a bit of a back log.

ps As per an earlier request, here are some of the build-up pictures. Everything is either new or restored. Paint colour is VW Ruby Red. Attention to detail is superb. Note under the pan - very nice!
VWMA Editor ·
This shows the front suspension work and interior of bonnet area. The high gloss of the Ruby Red was carried throughout the entire car.
VWMA Editor ·
This was shortly after the body was reunited with the pan. A new wiring harness is also being fitted.

Hey Craig
I guess you may not be able to tell, but can you give a clue as to roughly what you think the cost of the restoration would have been?
VWMA Editor ·
The cost of restoring this car would have seen no change out of $25,000.
For the club, things like bead blasting, paint prep, paint and painting were donated. Other items were done at cost.
One of the added benefits from this project was showing the club members that a $25,000 restoration is par for the course for a groundup exercise. There were a few things on this car that were hidden problems not picked up early on, which did add to the cost, such as rust gremlins, but even so, the budget would have still be around the twenties.
