Vw nutter ·

hey guys im just wondering how to get a panel this low with out modifiying anything too much any ideas would be great!
cheers
ps. some thing like the pic a posted

PurpleT3 ·

Cut the entire floor pan out and weld it back in six inches futher up the body.

But seriously, getting it that low is a lot of work and requires special after market parts if you actually want to drive it. I'm sure some of the bus dudes can give details on how it's done.

lobus ·

Maybe the old 27 bags of cement would do the trick

or you could always use photoshop

Oasis ·

I love this bus...

Daniel ·

The first one looks like it's tubbed to get the front down that low.

helbus ·

I reckon 3 tonne of bricks and let the tyres down to 10psi and it would get close. 🙂

Unity-28 ·

Wheel arches raised up all pound, Narrowed front beam with adjusters, Dropped spindles, and A shit load of money....

N!

baybuscamperkid ·

tubbed.

robnjo ·

there's a mat black one on the coast that the front bumpers about 6 inches off the ground....was at "klub fest" call "Low ?something"

Dannyboy ·

Channelled and airbags! Maybe you could just go the airbags?

Dan🙂

Vw nutter ·

Dannyboy ·

Going low costs lots of dow🙂 Maybe the ususal route with spindles etc , maybe pick some stuff up off the forum. You can get alot of things there plus lots of advise. Got 2 356 rims in less than 10 mins !!!! Good luck!

Dan🙂

here is the benchmark for low buses

david ·

there aint no easy or cheap way out of going real low as the boys are pointing out air is the way but you need to have a friendly bank manager unless your an engineer

robnjo ·

Damn silver thats low😎

twoguns ·

they have all suggested the obvious, the other is also to lower the body panel work. i have this on mine. 59 bus has done some lowering mods to his bumper. the pic beloew is of one in europr who has done 'extensions'. if youre needing sill repairs anyway this is a good start...

youll notice below the cargo doors the sill is about 10cm longer. if you look at pics of mine you will see the same.
couple this with drop spindles and a conversion in the rear, whether it be irs or swing axle and your 'phatt'

BenettonVW ·

Yeah, lots of $$ as I am discovering.
As mentioned by Nectar and others, narrowed beam with adjusters, dropped spindles for ride quality, and then we start getting into a different level.
If you want it 'laying rails', then more steps that are a little more extreme.. Wheel tubs in the front cabin section, and airbag suspension.

And thats all just in the front!! In a word.... DOLLARS.

twoguns ·

here is another with sills extended...

twoguns ·

mmmm. low!

twoguns ·

may fav...

twoguns ·

did i mention i love matt finish...

and if you look close in the engine bay you will see teh light on getting it real low.

Okay...questiong by a youngster...me...
I haven't played around with cars that much so who can explain what a narrow beam with adjusters, 'spindles', and 'wheel tubs' are for me....
pm me if you want..simple quest for imformation on my part...

(i know i need to get a decent vw book!!!)

thanks,
zac

you could doall the drop spindels and that but if thats not enough try making some brackets to lower the rear bumper 😉 it looks lower that way or even put some of those snazy mud flaps on too that'll mae it look low. :bounce

59 BUS ·

I used to have mudflaps draging along the ground but I think it looks best without them, as with them it makes the rear end look tall, without them it looks FAT, sick fat, fatt!

Cheers

Vw nutter ·

so what would be the easyiest way of going low if u were doing the work your self and of course the cheepest way?

Vw nutter ·

i heard that u can cut your spring plates differently to lower a bus and adding some new shokkies is this true?

59 BUS ·

You can move the swing/spring plates on the spline for the back, if you go low enough you will have to cut them, but they are spring steel so you dont want to introduce too much heat to them, the front beam will have to be removed and adjusters welded into them. Or you could just but wheels from a mini on! (10 inch).

Cheers
Marc

zac_smits ·

could someone answer my post above please....

very much appreciated

zac

pyr0 ·

narrowed beam is the front beam (thingy with wheels either side at the front) and mainly on bugs they cut a bit out of the middle so the wheeels sit more to the center of the guard allowing the car to be low and turn.

adjusters are what 59 bus was just talking about. any way they make the front of the car lower and have to be welded to the front beam.

umm the wheels tubs in question could mean the cutting of the floor above the front wheels ( the bit that would be under your seat) so the wheel can sit further up in the guard ( the floor is flat up there which do4esnt allow the car to get lowwered really really low 😉

hope that helps a lil zac

BenettonVW ·

Tubs..

BenettonVW ·

Sorry I tried to post these yesterday, but I need to format my pc.. few problems. Everything clear now Zac?

Some pretty small pre-tubs!

zac_smits ·

ahh okay then!!

thankyou very much pyro and benetton vw!
i think i got the general idea of it now.

cheers,

zac

Vw nutter ·
