Reel-to-reel tape player sought

Hi there!

I know this person who has a huge collection of really grouss reel-to-reel tapes. Heaps of old blues and a lot of really rare stuff. But his reel-to-reel player* is busted - we only get one channel of audio, I think. In any case, it either needs repair or replacement. I want to record all that cool music onto a computer, and put it on CDs (and cassettes - that's what's in me bus).

The thing is, it's kinda hard to find reel-to-reel players these days. I think it's only the magnetic read head that's broken on his, maybe not, but it spools fine, the switches all work OK. (I love the old mechanical linkages and stuff, none of this modern printed circuit board crap. You can SEE what's going on!)

Anyway, if anyone has any ideas or knows of places that would still have this kind of stuff... I can't spend heaps of money, but all suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks in advance folks,
Aurel.:party

Not that i am old or nuffin ( um i did tick the 40 yo age group in that other post :jesus ) but pretty sure that WAS their technical term

Lilydale hey? Antiques! That's not too far from me.

Ta blue74. I wasn't sure.

Any other ideas? I guess it's not a real common thing to have anymore is it? I'm also recording most of his vinyls, in case they somehow are destroyed/rendered unusable... It's easy to copy stuff once it's digital: for backup purposes though!

I have a few, a Phillips 4 track plus other bits... not for sale plus I'm in Sydney... just thought i'd let you know :P

pick them up at trash and treasure markets 'reel' cheap, even if they look 'reely' crappy grab them for the valves... garage sales are also good... I found one on a council clean up day.... perfect working condition... good luck.

however, I will swap them for a barndoor tho... 😠

Whilst on the topic, my dad has one and we *did* have a working real to real movie projector till some F***ers broke in and stole it along with all my mums old slides, and many other irreplaceable things! I HATE theiving scum bastards!!!! (they even stole the compressor half of an air conditioner, i mean what a waste of time, and the 2 water pumps so we had no water. that is just plain inconsiderate!!!). Seriously, how annoying! Glad to get that off my chest!

Have a nice day.
