im not kidding....a baja has a roof and storage space thats out of the whether.....about the only bonus a buggie would have is the shorter wheel base.....u could build a nice baja with the proceeds from your buggie.......i personally wouldnt sell your buggie though its pretty shmick

Yeah my SubaManx was going to be that colour. My current "daily" car is that colour. Well almost, it's factory 1973 Nissan "Lime 112". When I first got the car 2 years ago everyone thought it was a crap colour, now that new Ford's us it everyone think it's cool. The irony of it.
Anyway, the colour has grown on me so I was going to paint the SubaManx the same colour. Guess I'll have to re-think that now, don't want two Manxs the same colour in the one state now do we? The SubaManx body is in primer for now so a final desicion hasn't been made yet.

hey 2 dollar.....did u have a bitch of a time getting the plug out of your gearbox to check the level? welded a 17mm bolt onto a socket to get the thing out but i cant budge it.....the 2 other guys who were with me (big guys) couldnt budge it! is there a trick?......all we ended up doing was the timing cause we couldnt do the gearbox oil and i cant seem to find these adjusting spurs to adjust my brakes🙁 even using the muirs book we know where they must be but u cant see them through the hole and cant get a screwdriver into where the should be!:vader ......they seem to sit a good inch and a half/ 2 inches below the hole. oh and the whole pod filter didnt work with the 3 incher cause there wasnt enough room under the kit for the length of pipe so we made a shorter flange and it has too much airflow and doesnt suck enough fuel so i have to get a smaller filter and make a better pipe fitting. untill then ive got the ol oil bath...........im having a rant cause i need to do this before valla. well the brakes and gearbox n e way. there we go im finished now.

I have a 17mm hexbar but you should be able to use your bolt. put pressure on the plug then "TAP" the end of the bolt with a hammer.

thanks 2 dollar and freinds. ill remove the wheels on my day off and put a stocker on to adjust them that makes sense about the holes being covered.......ill have another go at the gearbox maybe next weekend ill see if i can put it on the hoist at Eirinns fathers mechi shop.

Little blu is happy down in Tassie, I miss her but the big blu is taking my mind off it, and I have lots of little projects to keep me busy. Actually am quite buggered from 4 days of prep and paint and put back together and recovering seats etc, but like you can't wait til Valla, you're going to love it. Be sure to pack winter woolies

hey nick, wen u get ur bug up on hoist, check the rubber hose from brake fluid container to metal lines in front, I found mine was perished, so there was the tiniest bit of a leak which reduced braking...(may be fine, but u never know 😉 )

hey do i HAVE to bleed my brakes after adjusting or can i bleed them say the next day or something? like am i going to lose pressure in the line by adjusting which will be recovered by bleeding? or is the bleeding just so u bleed and adjust at the same time.......cause its kinda hard to bleed my brakes right now as i have no one to step on the pedal for me 🙁

im sorry it must of been the effects of the red cordial since im not allowed to drink for another 7months or so. i agree with $2 you definately need to bleed if youve opened the system, it comes down to the simple rules of hydralics.

Big Blu in today for service and new cv boots. Things are moving along nicely and we should have a comfortable ride for valla. I finished recovering rear action seat and all cushions, looks pretty sweet. have new lino for floor area and new carpet for front floor and kick panels. Will have updated pics soon.

hmmm rightio....i adjusted and bled my brakes today and the 2 rears are pretty slick from brake fluid....the passengers side rear is the worst.....still stops ok though.....the fronts are fine just the rears that are the problem.

you would want to get on to that one quick before too much fluid gets on the shoes cause it has the same effect as oil on a clutch, then you will have to replace the shoes as well

yeah ok tim.......ill prolly do a full overhaul of the rear brakes when i get back from the spectacular and replace the shoes, lining, cylinders and brake hose. should be a bit cheaper for only the rear.

clean down excess fluid with some carbie cleaner or similar did this in my old datto 1200 worked a treat till I could afford newies

it's great! The difference is unreal. I still can't get over it. With the wheels and tyres on the front now and a bit smaller than my 5 stud ones that have yet to go on so there's a bit more clearance to come. the ability to hit gutters (not the 90 degree ones) at 40ks and have a smooth ride is cool. where my steering used to wander all over the place, it's like driving a go cart now.

I've got a adapter plate and spacers, but they don't have any thread in them so we're gonna have to get something put in. Luckily we had these wheels and tyres off the country buggy.

um clean all the mud off from the buggy bash, srew everything down that rattles, get a wheel alignment and rear tyres flipped, clean everything, bleed brakes and flush the system.

was driving to work this morning and was just coming into town and there was a road works sign on the side of the road.....not a workman in sight and there was no reduced speed sign and as this was about 11.45 i figured it was lunch time and they were having a break so i just kept driving....the all of a sudden there is this trench cut accross both lanes of the road in front of me about 3 quarters of a foot wide and about the same deep. they must have been setting a cable or something but jesus christ i hit it at 60 ks with no warning the jolt through the baja was pretty harcore.....the workmen were down the road working on a roundabout i felt like throttling one of them:cussing

i wouldnt have wanted to hit this hole at more than 10kms/hr it was dangerous......everyone that hit it would need a wheel alignment. they should have had a reduced speed sign.

I must admit we are very glad to be travelling in a kombi and not a buggy I seriously turned blue last year, should be much more comfortable. And the camping part will be warmer too. I'm considering a heater as we will have electricity.

the only rust in the baja is the A pillars.....just gotta replace them after valla and the car will be completly sound. unless there is some hiding somewhere for me but there are no bubbles or signs.

new a pillar peices (i have been informed) are 20 bucks a peice at micks and i can get a mate to do the welding. so after valla we have brakes and A pillars to do. at the moment i just put up with the annoying shaking noise when im on rough roads. (every road with in 20 kms of my place:P)

the A pillars heather. the front pillar where it meets the heater channel is rusty, got my new wheels today (off thorun) she is well in case anyone cares:P , put the 13 inch wheels on the front of the baja for now so i dont have a dodgy wheel on there n e more but it looks kinda dicky cause they are really really small.......oh well after valla ill put some new rubber on the 2 14inch rims and paint them white and all will be matching and sweet......>Eirinn kicked cowgirl arse at her state paint horse show.:bounce:party.......oh and did you know that u can fit 4 14inch wheels with wide tires on the back seat of a beetle:P

went and looked at that red 67 bug for sale on here for eirinn on sunday joele seems adamant that he will get 1500 for it even though its been for sale for a very long time and people have rung up many times and then not bought it. the things i noticed wrong with it:
. many small rips in the headlining as well as a large tear about 15cms/15cms that hangs down
. top section of rear seat needs recovring.
.fading paint
.the drivers side front indicator has been positioned further forward than the passenger one on the guard which makes it look pretty dicky.
. medium dent in drivers side front guard with paint missing.
.clutch shudder even when u let it out slow, feels like oil on the clutch.
. blows a bit of smoke when started
. flat spot in low revs from 009 dissy. very noticable in 3rd
. steering is a bit funny u turn the wheel and it kinda hits a stiff bit where it catches and then u can move it further, needs new bushes.
. the drivers door sags a bit though the A pillar is good its just the hinges
it has a 1600 twin port with a 30 pict solex that is off an old alfa or something its not off a bug so i dunno.
it does go alright and stops well however 1500 is too much i told him 1300 and it would be seriously considerd but he wont go down from 1500 so he has no sale.

oh it had a little bit of rust in the gutter on the passenger side on the end at the rear of the car........over all it wasnt a bad car....though i didnt like driving it that much but eirinn did. just too much money for what it is.

yeah was it a pinky redish 61 cause i think it looks good though it jumps out of 4th gear, there is also a silver 68 which seems really good but has obviously been owned by an idiot who has put air scoops on the boot lip....yes thats right folks air scoops into the storage compartment........you would get paid out on every cruise lol.

yeah i know what you mean i still can remember what it was like before i joined, back when i worked 2 jobs and only got paid for one the other i got work on my car. now its similar cause i lost an allowance when i came off the boat and that was like 9-10 grand a year.

hye ducky ive got some large (not elephant foot) 71 super bug rear tail lights and the front indicators if u want em. the lenses are cracked in all of them and would need new lenses and the chrome is old and not looking the best but 25 bucks and u can have em. these are still on the car atm.

gotta try to figure out why my baja is mis firing every now and then today if i can,........mechanic came to pick up another one of our cars today (needs a new harmonic balancer) and i asked him about the heads but he said it sint making the noise that would tell him they are loose so ill pull the plugs and check the gap settings and stuff.

im not sure i understood your last comment re: my brake situation wombat but beleive me if i could afford it i would fix them right now. if i had another car to drive i would drive it so as not to be driving a car with dangerous brakes but i dont have another car. Im 17, i live by myself and dont have the money to fix them its as simple as that. i dont LIKE drving it the way it is but i have no choice. some of us have low paying jobs and drive a beaten up 62 baja because we cant afford to fix broken things and live at the same time. if u can figure out how i can fix my brakes and pay for food and petrol with the 65 bucks i have to spend untill wednesday next week im all ears.

Now what was that about gene splicing? There are only three instances of 'gene' on 'this' page (last bunch of posts)(pre-me, that is) . So what's going on there?
I'd like to fix up stuff like our relatively poor vision with some sort of bio-improvement, perhaps gene splicing. I mean, other creatures have smaller eyes that work better, surely there's plenty of room for improvement.🙂
Another favourite of mine would be gills - I like water. What else could we fix?

Actually yeah that'd be grouss too! We need little nano-bots that go into the bloodstream and just burn fat that they find. They need to be careful that they don't overheat the body. Ideally, they grab some fuel, head to the surface layers (skin), combust there, and head back for more fuel. This would allow us to go skiing/boarding in t-shirts and shorts (my preferred attire) finally! (Can you tell I'm from Melbourne?) This would solve the problem of obesity: you just need to give the 'big-boned' people some sort of cooling mechanism (ie - move to Melbourne). Eh, actually, um... Well, I just downloaded this source (it's fortran 77) from a NASA site, and want to compile it. I don't care about the code itself. I wish that these Unix people could just distribute runnable programs instead of source! :cussing But anyway, binmerge is supposed to combine ephemeris data files. testeph.f is supposed to make sure the files are OK, and contains subroutines that extract data.
I don't know anything about programming though!🙁

i can write HTML and Visual Basic and a miniscule amount of java im just trying to work out using basic techniques what would be wrong. promlem is i dont know how this coding works. all i can work out is that somthing is conflicting with (1) and (2). the maths of it is wrong somewhere as it says that there are too many elements fot the array of (1) at (2). are u sure this is working code and not a work in progress? perhaps consult vanderaj he is down with the funky shite regarding code.

battery could be because for some reason your genny doesnt charge at that rev range for some weird reason......the brake lights now thats just werid......see my baja doesnt have brake warning lights....do these come on if your brakes dont contact properly or something?

Um, the bus is a 74 (1800): it's got an alternator that means, I think (?). It's always done this since I've owned it, flickering above (about) 3000, and below about a few hundred (like when it's about to stall - but that's normal isn't it? Well, I'm not sure why the brake warning light flickers too.)

yeah already looked at it.....really after something with a 1500 + engine.......for a bit of power........besides those people are confused a little bit as they say its an S bug but its a 70 model and they didnt make S bugs till 71 (august 70 or soemthing) and its a 1300 when an S bug has a 1600 TP lol

Oh yeah that sounds reasonable. See I'll soon have (yeah I will!) a degree in mechanical engineering, and I want to think about all sorts of possibilities, ya know, keep all options open.

well thats the bit that gets me... can't work on the cars(can't lift anything) and no money comin' in to buy new bits. So not a thing has happened to them in 3 weeks:repuke but I got the roof rack of the kombi so its in the back yard, not on the street but still can't get it into the shed because I have 2 chassis gig's and a buggy in bits in there. anyway only 1 1/2 to 3 weeks to go and I'm hopin' the doc says 1 1/2:thumb

Havin' a great old time actually barls. Went out last night. And this morning, I found out that an absolute legend of Ska, rocksteady, reggae era music is gonna be playing in Melbourne in October. And, it's less than a week after my birthday, AND the day after my last mega-assignment of my Uni life is due! It's a calling.

Oh one thing the backin plates are modified so you'll need to use yours (made the centre hole bigger and the three bolt holes are moved)

Pan purchased, mighty good looking speciman ( thanks BajaWes) it is a very early pan and the condition is exceptional, almost ashame to cut it>
Still looking for an early model wreck for all the bits, I reckon this will be cheaper than sourcing bits.

I was just cleaning the bathroom and cleaning out the draws in the vanity when I realised that cleaning is a serious health hazard. I went to pick up an old razor and there was a stray razor blade poking out and I sliced the top of my finger on it. Man did it hurt!! And talk about bleed!!! It's not very deep so a bandaid will fix it but it has made me come to the conclusion that housework as a whole is a health risk.

Strangely enough, it's the third sunny day in a row here in Melbourne. Lovely, although the air's still a little on the coolish side.

I think I heard of a few datto powered busses now, I wonder why: there's someone with another one wanting to sell it... My sister's got a real 180B. Goes pretty nicely considering it's age, although you notice how loud it is when you stop and get out of the car! Almost unkillable!

I used to own a real 180B too!! Mine was named "The Gymp" cause the colour was called Gympie Gold. I bought it when I lived in Adelaide and had it shipped up to Port Stephens when I moved then took it back to Sydney with me. I sometimes regret ever selling it... it was a tops little car. Now I need to sell my charade. I hate all the malarky that goes on with selling a car 😠

there not much in it the steering box, insterment cluster and engine have been taken out today, it has a fair bit of rust in it and its an auto. my old man said its just a shell basicly and if you have a good sense of humour it would be worth it. is this your next project

I can't say I remember the first few months after we brought the twins home. My wife was in hospital for 10 days after the C/section. I took 6 weeks off work mainly to look after the oldest one. They were breast fed for 4 months so I had no need to get up at night.

Hey Heather - I edited this tv program in Germany about Urine therapy. Works wonder's evidently. There's this whole group of people who snort it, drink it, and inject it. I've seen some of the before and after pictures, and the results looked impressive on some medical problems. Don't know about the effect on metal tho'. Cant smell any worse than the fish oil!

I need him to sleep so I can finish my cuppa tea, get dressed and blow dry my hair!!! How inconsiderate of him! LOL

Oh well, there's a fair bit of stuff to do at the moment. But we got heaps of pressure gauge calibration done early this week, thankfully. We're going to measure some tide levels in the Snowy River estuary. That will be fun. Only downside is that two minibusses (ie - generic hire things, not kool volksy busses) have been organised, and the lecturer is not keen for us to take our own cars: going for a run in my bus back out that way would have been great fun.

Well I'm back!!! Jack had a great time at soft play and is pumping out Z's as we speak. Ahhhh..... peace and quiet.

im seriously thinking about it but i still have 18 months and a few days left on my contract so ive got to just think about it for the moment cause im getting about $80grand a year once everythings factored in(medical, dental and rent assistance)

I am going through a career situation, heres the thing, Am currently managing a camping store 21c but do all the work of the manager 1st in charge but dont get the pay. The job is under challenging me at the moment. I am a teacher by education but havent taught since 99, took long service never went back ( Taht job literally made me ill, had Chronic Fatique) Now I'm just doing and am bored with it somewhat, I dont get up excited to go to work but does anyone?????

With regard to being sent rubbish (adds), I call them up and tell them I don't want it. They usually have such a number. And I mention that we have a "No Junk Mail" sticker, and if I get another thing from them I'M GOING TO COME DOWN THERE MYSELF AND .... oh, um never mind that.

The "No Junk Mail" sticker only applies to pamphlets and such... If the letter is actually addressed to YOU then it's called direct mail and the mail man isnt' going to know that its crap.

I don't mind cooking, but am pretty crap at it. I have a few standard meals that I can make, and expeditions into unknown territory usually end in disaster - especially if I try to improvise!:puke
I make bread too: usually it's edible, and sometimes it's quite nice.
EDIT: oops, I don't mean to imply that I've ever made myself or anyone else sick from food, just that it's usually not tasty except for my three or four standard meals. The puke icon thing just means it tastes bad... 🙂

I'm going out and doing uni work when I wake up. Not that exciting.
Last week was hard rubbish collection - I got a few spare bikes. One was a racer, so I took it's rear wheel and put it on my mountain bike. Yeah the brakes don't fit, and the mudguard had to come off (interference, since racer wheel is larger diameter). But I can go FASTER now. The gear ratios were too slow before. Yeehaa! Hoon time. I think I might go for a ride if the weather's nice(-ish).

Barls, I'm not working as of Monday. Well I still have my Thursday casual job until I pop but this one was just casual for 2 days a week. I used to be employed full time here but got retrenched last year the day after I found out I was pregnant. It's good that they still call me back for casual stuff. I might get a couple more days here and there over the next couple of weeks but the reception job is over with.

I think I have 2 guys fighting it out over buying my car. One is comming on Saturday morning to get in before the other one that comes in the afternoon. Car gets sold to highest bidder ( and preferably the one with CASH!)
