Have a mate fixing and spraying a Kombi for my mother. Coming up real good. Here are the progress shots. Some of the dates on the pics are obviously wrong.

kroozzn63 ·

hey i have one of those original vw sunroofs if anyone is intrested
,the bay is looking good i should have mine back on thursday from a respray cant wait

type_one ·

For simplicity and authenticity we convinced her to keep it the same colour. Has been in the family since 81 and does have some probelms but overall pretty good. I remember when I was around 15 trying to convince her not to cut the roof to put that bloody dodgy sunroof in. Oh well it happened and now it is being filled back up.

Bizarre ·

So what are you going to do for the head liner???

A new one???

Yep - same colour is better. Tis a cool colour anyway.
What is it by the way?
74 1800 manual??

She should be happy soon

type_one ·

Got a new head liner coming from the states. Should be good. The year is 73 Microbus. Has a 1.8 ltr motor.

ducky ·

good one, how much for the headliner?

11CAB ·

You can tell by the fuel filler cap that it is a 73.... up to 72 the flap was further forward, then in 73 it was moved back, then in 74 it was changed to the round cap without the flap.
It should also be a 1700

type_one ·

Not sure of all up cost on the headliner yet. If it make it through customs. Fingers crossed. They sometime do then not to dear but if it get hit them maybe a bit cheaper than you can get em here.

Also it was a 1700 but am fairly sure when the motor was rebiult a while back it was changed to 1800.

Been painted for a while now. Slowly put it back together for them. All new rubbers. Seats reupholstered. Still a few little things to do but otherwise complete and looking good. Except as my wife said it needs to be lowered now.

A big thanks to Craig (wrecker67) for your patience with everything, your brialliant spraying and most importantly for being an all round great guy. Obviously without your help this never would have happened.

Latest pics with the clear front blinkers and clear rear lenses. Just needs to be lowered now. But no way i can convince mum to do that. Will have to wait a long time before i inherit it. Also has an led brake light in the rear window. Hard to ee though in pics. Great at night. Very Bright.

gday mate. Im doin up a 73 micro that looks identical. Same colour except mine has a white roof. Im just about to start rubbing it back. Did you need to remove all the windows? And what was the prob with the skylight? Cheers...great job!

Fossil ·

Cool 73 - I've laso got one - the clear lenses look good but as mine a new ones don;t think I'll be swapping them until they craze. Well done guys :P

type_one ·

Don't need to remove the windows unless you really want to restore it properly. We replaced every window rubber with a new one. Spent about $1000 on rubbers alone. All new door rubbers etc etc. Just makes the money spent on your investment worth it. i.e. no leaks. Which brings me to the sun roof.

I remember being 15 and syaing to mum not to get one put in. She went ahead and did it anyway. Leaked ever since. Worst thing ever. If it was meant to have one it would have come with one. And would have been made for it. Now 15 yrs later it has been fixed as best you can fix that sort of stuff up.

sgetty ·

where did u get them clear lenses from dude?

cheers deon
