anyone ever used \"TMI\" Seat cover sets?

i got an upholsterer to fit my set.. but the front seats covers are too small! theyre the right style, and match my original vinyl perfectly (not the older "leatherette" ) and the back seat fits perfectly..

anyone had this problem? have any tips?

I have used them on 3 cars and never had a problem, they fit great and look great

Leave the covers out in the sun or under heat lamps for a little while so they soften and allow stretch. Dont fit them to the tags staright away allow a little time to stretch and form to the seat.

now the trick is DONT get a motor trimmer to fit them for you as they always winge about crap.

Who did you buy them off and what year is the car your fitting them too.

As with all stuff from overseas it varies slightly to our models so you have to be carefull when ordering

did the trimer stuff too much padding onto the squab of the seat ???

they set is from volkjspower, and looks great, perfect match as i said.. theyre gto go onto the 68' which was a german import.. so they should be spot on i would have thought.. i had a look when he tried to fit them and no amount of warmth would allow the covers to stretch over 5cm i wouldnt think..

Dean said he'd get chris (at volkspower) to see what he can find out about non-fitting sets. the back seat fitted without any problems aswell..

Perhaps our 68 seat squabs are different from german n USA ones.

Is there too much padding up top or did the trimmer put new stuff into place. ??

as i said i say they fit great but they do need warming stretching into place

Like my sunroof cover for my 65 it was nearly 60mm too short when i first fitted it to the car. took a few days to strrreeetttccchhh it t ofit but its really great now.

there was a little extra padding.. but the old padding was very squashed (all original) so i dont think it would have made TOO much of a difference.. could have been enough though..

Which way don't they fit? Are they not deep enough? i.e from top to bottom. 5cm doesn't sound like a problem with vinyl. The springing would need to be depressed if he's having trouble reaching the lower frame. Possibly too much padding as Dave said. What's he using to pad 'em up?

yeah its from top to bottom.. he uis using foam to padd them.. i had a look as he showed me how they go on.. it'd have to stretch a fair bit.. and i think the cold weather hasnt helped.

Was the original padding foam?

killakornkobb ·

the original was the hair looking crap.. like coconut husk, with fome foam over the top. unless my seats have been re-padded already since new.

the padding in mine was not very good---lumpt to sit on, and could feel the springs, so he put some more padding over the top.. but not soo much that it wouldnt have eaisily squashed down to fit the covers

I removed the padding and fitted and cloth patch onto of the springs so they dont end up poking into yr arse. also glued a bit of 1/2 sponge on top of the horse hair fibre so it dont push through the seat cover.

You have to almost sit on the seat or compress it upside down to squash the spring and fit the cover. did you do this

When laid on top of the seat they will be short untill you compress the springs and hook the cover over the seat hook. I also fit a length of tie wire into the cover to ad strength when the cover is pushed over the hook clip
