57kombi ·
That is one nice bus.
Cheers
Dave
t2 ·
bulk head and dash, these were both taken to bare metal and straightend ,for me i think because they are the first things i look at when getting into the car it would definately have bothered me to see a dent or hole ,the bulkhead had around 20 holes drilled into it that did nothing ,why????some people have strange ideas
BenettonVW ·
That looks sensational.. Big $$..
jenz58 ·
When can we all actually get to look at this beauty in the flesh....? First show?
That last shot...I can't get over the colour..it's sort of transparent but really vibrant....:kiss
66NIK ·
I was lucky enough to see this bus in the flesh when I brought some parts off Darren and it is every bit as sweet as it looks in the photos. He has done an unreal job on the body and backed it up by investing in all the good bit to finish it off.
Well done.
Nik

Stunning mate, absolutely stunning, that must looks the dogs bollock$ in the aussie sunshine😉

Zimblewinder ·
First off conflagulations on the restoration! It really is a top job. Hows the paranoia when you drive it? Holding up all right?
I was wondering what kind of rubber that is. Im going to be using my 23 as an everyday driver so bias plys are out Im afraid, Im looking for some nice classic look radials. What are those white walls or are they flaps? Rim size (14's? Im on standard 15" rims), weight rating, cost???? Sorry
once again fantastic job.:rudolf
[Edited on 4-12-2004 by Zimblewinder]
t2 ·
hi there mr zimblewinder
the tyres are 195/65/15 on the rear and 195/50/15 on the front with white wall inserts for insurance purposes you need a tyre rating of 94 i am not to sure what the 94 stands for just passing on info from the man at the tyre shop.
as for the driving part unfortunately it hasnt happend yet its a money thing ,i do alittle then work alittle then spend alot , i have bought a motor of a forum member and i will be fitting it in the next 2 weeks or so, its a berg 1903 stroker . after that its the interior and rubbers oh and a few more accesories.
i have fitted a booster front discs with type 3 rear end and have to wait for some parts to finish that off then the motor. i like to finish one job before starting another to make sure nothing is missed. thanks for your interest
as for being paranoid about chipping the paint ,i am not worried as it is not going to be entered in any shows ,i am building it to drive so when the paint gets alittle damaged its a chance to change the colour mmmmmmm cestnut brown
byronbus ·
sweet dude, keep the pics coming
penguin ·
mate
you have to at least get it to the nats next year!! That is very very sweet!!!!! Damn, I wish I could even think of things that nice :O

please please please customise my car! will pay in :beer:beer
BLUE_62 ·
Looks a million dollars mate, give ya self a pat on the back and have another beer. Anyone who can create something with that sort of outcome deserves true credit. 😎
t2 ·
i appreciate all the support as this is the first resto i have done , my mates use to come to me in the shed and say you havent done anything what have you been doing all this time out here , shit it use to piss me off id be welding and sanding for weeks and get a dickhead telling me it looked the same as when i started.
i guess this is why i ended up posting some pics to get alittle support as anyone who has been through this will know how much work is involved and how it sends you crazy at times
thanks again darren
Da Wiz ·
fan-bloody-tastic!
muz ·
man ooooooohhhhhh man ,every thing about your bus is beautiful. congrats. bloody clever bugga!
t2 ·

robnjo ·
awesome bus...somehow I've missed this thread only to stumble on it now...FARK!
congrads:beer
ps: This bus is rated 😎😎++++
BenettonVW ·
So what is stopping this thing from the road bro?
57kombi ·
I think Darren is sorting out the drive train.
last I spoke to him he had fitted the brake booster.
This is a way cool bus, cant wait to see it on the road.
How about some more pics.
Cheers
Dave
t2 ·
its on the road sort of been test driven it with no seat and the safaris cracked wide open , not a good idea tears in the eyes. i havent got any rego but its in a rural area with extremly quiet streets , here is a pic the first time driven to test the brakes, basically just testing the box and brakes and oh the motor ,may have to add some strength to the back of the seats . the trim will be last to go on as it is to expensive to damage .
thanks for the support but i must admitt it looks better in the pics i think
kombibob ·
what happend to your white wall spats or is it just the pic quality
twoguns ·
dont go driving around too much with out sunnies mate. i had a mate who was on a bike run, who moved his glasses, probably to clear something from his eyes... got hit dead inthe eye by a criket, which the coroner later found lodge part way into his brain!
i go everywhere flat out with my safaris open, but always with glasses. same as on my bike.
t2 ·
i guess bugs are getting into people aswell wes shit did that guy die from the cricket
kombibob just a crap pic mate but i am not sure how long the inserts will last i will probably be getting them done properly if the guy can do really wide white walls
[Edited on 10-1-2005 by t2 sauerkraut bug]
57kombi ·
I had to stay with the inserts as the bloke here could only do 3/4 of an inch, too small for me.
Bus looks great.
Cheers
Dave
kombibob ·
my mate cleaned between his inserts and his tyers with metho then sprayed them with contact sement because he was sick of replacing them
seems to have worked
twoguns ·
darren, the guy who did mine for my old tyres could do up two inchs i think. i know i got 1.5 on my tyres.
57kombi ·
I could do with an extra 1.5 inches.
Cheers
Dave
gazza ·
where can we all buy a ticket to ride the bus!!!!
a pure work of art, welldone...
all hail to Annabelle...:bounce:bounce
splittychick ·
Hi Darren............just checking out your oh so beautiful bus again & thought theres probably some newbies on here who need to see this gorgeous girl.😍
i was also hoping you might have some interior shots if youve got your seats done yet as i'm still stuggling with the definete colour combo for mine & as we seem to have very similar taste I would love to check yours out??😁
t2 ·
brads still stiching up the rear seat as we speak might even be finished not sure, i will post a pic of my hood liner i have been working on for you , will post a pic of the interior /seats when they are all finished .
so hows your bus going it looks great?
how long before its on the road?
mine is so close its not funny ,the list of jobs on the bus goes like this finish hood liner (around 1 hours work)
finish the oil cooler set up (have hose and thermostat)allready mounted the cooler in poss.
get a temp guage and a sender fit those
purchase 2 175/55/15 tyres get them fitted to 2 original early beetle rims (can wait for this job)
fit the rear seat cover
then drive it everywhere untill it needs a resto again.
i will say this about the seats the front ones are not the same colour as the rear!!!!!!!! i cant wait to see it:thumb
PUNCH_BUG ·
Mate that splitty is awsome, all that hard work really shows. well done.
What paint colour is it if you dont mind me asking?
crewcabconnection ·
if only digital cameras could cope with pearl.....this bus is WAY better in the flesh....it's totally awesome in every respect ... so if Darren won't talk it up, I will. Its frikkin amazing, not just the bus, but all the details and ideas that are in it. The kind of bus that makes you go, damn, I need one of those, and those and those, and that..,pimp my ride my arse - this is da domb - as young people I know would say.
butidontunderstand ·
totally agree in the flesh she was awesome, got me inspired but dont have the $$$ to do anything bout it 🙁 , i'll be keeping an eye out for her in penriff once shes on the roads 🙂
david777 ·
T2,
I can't tell from the pictures...What is that headlining made of?
t2 ·
its 3mm ply , i stained it to make it look better.
everyone else dont believe the hype
frenzix ·
is that your bus exploding in your avatar? if so im sorry to hear that.
decked dubby ·
Excellent bus dude.
My wife spoke you in a servo about 4 - 6 weeks ago in Emu plains. She did a u-turn when she saw the bus and followed you and got it all on video for me. She raved about the bus for days after that. 👍
