I saw something very simliar on the back of a car carrier in Melb a few months ago on my way to work. Are you going to leave it like that or will you put your own stamp on it ?

The guy I got it off was trying to get it finished for valla but ran out of time. I'd love to keep it as it is, but I want a Baja, so it will be getting a new paint job and get jacked up.

MUD BASHING ANYONE ?? ·
Now thats what we want to hear raised is a good thing, and what a wild paint job maby not a good thing for a baja but nothing a pass with a spray gun wont fix so i take it its still a good old trusty swingy, anyway im keen for a trip to stradie i was talking to boozer down at valla and he said that the bardge is around $80 so i was going to get a trip organised maby in 2 months or so and theres always fraser at cristmas if the manx club is not doing there thing at inskip me and dave will be going over for a week at least but this time ill have some grunt (type 4) so theres going to be a lot of hooning going on😎😎😎😎😎😎😎

Good stuff 11CAB. Looking forward to getting this one on the road.
Boozer ·
Sweet! How cool is that! it has some good baja potential. What year is it? was it cheap?
11CAB ·
Hey Boozer, it will be painted buggy green....very close to yours, it was dirt cheap....ie nothing, not sure on year
Graham

Bugged Again ·
A bargain, keep the flames would look good on the beach
Hows the buggy going????
11CAB ·
I'm not allowed to keep the flames........got rid of the buggy
Bugged Again ·
Whaaaaat got rid of the buggy!!!
i sure have been gone for a while
might have to come to the meeting friday
11CAB ·
Nah, I've still got the buggy, its just easier to tell people I got rid of it then say nothing has been done with it......
72TWINCAB ·
No......Ya just gotta keep the flames. I better talk to Mel.
barls ·
nice very nice
handycam ·
cool as 🙂
Grey 57 ·
Dont paint over the flames Graeme. man what are you thinkin. I will talk to Mel too. Thats way kewl.
You gotta bring that to the next Valla!
splittychick ·
We need to get Mel to come around somehow coz the flames are definetely a keeper.....:P
11CAB ·
Well I would loved to have kept them, but most of the flames were on the bonnet, and that is being replaced for the baja kit, so the flames are all but got now.......
MUD BASHING ANYONE ?? ·
Hay thats my bonnet, looks good so will it be ready for the next buggy bash ?
VWFREAK ·
She looked pretty cool.
11CAB ·
Hey Tim, got the nose cone to go with it???
I'm working on the upright conversion at the moment, got the pulley done and most of the tinware
MUD BASHING ANYONE ?? ·
ahh no i dont think so i no theres alot of vw stuff in my sheds but a nose cone is not one maby baja park would have one and my upright is all dont just doing the finishing touches and i hope to here it go by this weekend, what did sharp built charge you for your stuff he said $250 on the phone pully and stand and when i got there he tryed to stich me for $270 grrrrr
11CAB ·
Yeah I got the $270 "quote" for the pulley, Alt stand & flywheel bush, well the bush is about 2 bucks, I've made the pulley, so I'm about $268 in front at the moment, I've got a mate to do the Aluminium welding, so just need to cut down an Alt stand and weld it up
barls ·
cool you got the bush im still waiting for it a year and a bit down the track
11CAB ·
No I havent got the bush yet, but a mate of mine can get them from the bearing joint near him for $2
barls ·
i ended up making one because there was no bearing that fitted it cause of the difference in main shaft length
11CAB ·
Is there any reason why anybody hasnt changed the input shaft in the gearbox like in the kombi boxes??
barls ·
i mucked around with too much stuff to get the t4 2L i wasnt about to start on the box
11CAB ·
OK fair enough
barls ·
but it went like the clappers good conversion. the guy at sharpbuilt does a good job its just that hes not always reliable in sending parts
11CAB ·
Well I got the body off today, getting ready to do the lift kit.
All bolts came undone very easily and once the body was off, there is virtually no rust whatsoever....

Andy ·
Sweet Mate 🙂
bajabug69 ·
Looking good 😉,you making your own lift kit ??
11CAB ·
Yeah, I've made both side sections from 50mmx50mm box section, now I need to do the front & rear sections when I get time away from work.
11CAB ·
I picked up some wide rear guards at Action Day for a good price.
11CAB ·
Now I've got plenty of room for those Mudders......:thumb
MUD BASHING ANYONE ?? ·
wide gaurds they just stop you covering other people in mud, oh yeah and they also stop those boys in blue reaming you a new hole
11CAB ·
Yeah I really dont want another hole........
Do you need another set of those mudders yet Tim? I'm getting a couple myself this week
Boozer ·
looking good! I'm gathering bits for my next one already.
MUD BASHING ANYONE ?? ·
not yet but they are really good treads i should get a spare set
11CAB ·
Sorry Tim, they're all gone now, lucky I got mine when I did.

Nice!
Basically what I'm doing but Im stickin with full fenders/valances (I cant bring myself to cut them off)
How did you bend the front and rear sections of the lift kit?? Torch it and bend?
Are you sticking with swing axle?
have fun
11CAB ·
The front section of the lift kit was cut from plate steel with a strip welded top and bottom, the rear was just cut and welded to get the shape
11CAB ·
As for keeping it swingaxle, no, I'm currently converting it to IRS, I've got the pivot boxes tacked in place, just need to sort out the rear shock towers to clear the trailing arms and then fit the kombi box
handycam ·
looking good:thumb
MUD BASHING ANYONE ?? ·
Hay graham i got a new baja a irs 1500 and im going to lift it so if ya make me one ill buy ya a 6 pack well allright 2 anyway have you looked for the mounting kits for kombi boxes i have a book here that gives you an idea but i dont know if it would be easyer to make it or work for the money to buy it
type1ute ·
nice coulour choice, i sprayed my last baja the same, the look really sweet with it... mynew one is going to be the same with heaps of checker plate
11CAB ·
Tim, I'm going to make my own mounting kit for the Kombi box, but I wouldnt mind seeing your book anyway. I'll send you a U2U
Graham
11CAB ·
Well isnt it always the way...........now I have two baja bodies to play with...

MUD BASHING ANYONE ?? ·
So when are you bringing it out and getting it all muddy me dave and andrew with the towd went out to ormeau today and i broke well bend a tie rod so bad it hit the fire wall with a load bang and i thought i was staying there but we stragihter and drove it home very slowly
11CAB ·
So where are the Pics????
Andy ·
Sweet,
That lift kit looks neat! 😉
MUD BASHING ANYONE ?? ·
Well it wasnt really planed i just put my shita back together and drove it around daves not expecting to go hang off mountains didnt even bring any spares, tow ropes nothing but i need a digi camera
ColumBUS ·
whats ur tyre of choice there fellas
on our cruiser we run 33 muddies on the road, 35 baja claws off road and competition.
MUD BASHING ANYONE ?? ·
Well i cant fit anymore that 31s under my shita but there uniroyal mud terrian and i love em nice and quiet on road and wicked offroad aslong as i dont get stuck on the pan i cant get stuck they just dig away nicely but my next bug will have 33 10.5 allterrains only cause i cant afford 2 sets one sand and one mud
11CAB ·
Hey Tim, 33's wont fit unless you run $$$ worth of longer rear arms. 31's only just miss the torsion bars with standard arms.
ruckus ·
I love the pic of your kid learning to skate from the clothes line to the back door on his bum! Next he'll be heelflipping down 10 stairs and you'll be paying the doctor's bill :thumb
ColumBUS ·
hmmm, always wanted to cheat and chuck the bug body on a sierra chassis with hilux diffs. hmmm indeed i have all of these components... you blokes wont kill me for sacriledge if i do it will ya?
11CAB ·
LOL Ruckus....he's not even 2 yet...and the worst bit is we have a ramp from our backdoor instead of steps...he loves flying down that on the board too......
11CAB ·
Here's one for you Kroozin....and its a factory cabrio as well......:thumb
MUD BASHING ANYONE ?? ·
They will if you have the torrsion bar end plates that dont have the big rods that stick out mine had 35s on it when i got it mind you they would have scraped going over a ten cent coin but they were on there
11CAB ·
That "big rod that sticks out" is part of the IRS springplate....
The IRS has longer torsion bars that go through the torsion plate housing.... What springplates are on your Bug?
You cant just swap the IRS and swingaxle springplates either as the swingaxle springplates are longer than the IRS ones
Chewy ·
yea but you can weld a Swing axle centre spline into the IRS springplate, or cut down a swing spring plate to fit IRS, then fit the swing axle torsion bars and end cap.
MUD BASHING ANYONE ?? ·
Well mine is a factory irs but somone has put the cover plates like a swing axle on i dont know how but the did and they are the same as the ones on andrews towd
