Menangler ·

And practical, cart you junk around and still take the whole family!

baybuscamperkid ·

yep, im a big fan of hte ol' panelvan, but if i was ever to have a ute it would be a dually. more practical and looks more balanced then a kombi single.

That's correct, you can take the family to church and drop the rubbish off at the tip on the way home

Nearly as practical as a buggy.........

Can't go past them double cabs.

Heaps of passenger room, plenty of carrying space, and an attention grabber.

If I had a dollar for every non-VW person who congratulates me on my handiwork in converting a kombi to a ute, I wouldn't need to work again.

Just got another one for the collection. I intend on restoring this one to keep my daily company.

Cheers

11CAB ·

Yeah, best of both worlds, room for 6 people, and a tray just as big as any ute.......luv the twincabs

byronbus ·

I like singlecabs because you can take one or two passangers and say no to the rest, its great not having to cart tribes of people around who trash your car...and i can fit a 10ft surfboard in the back...and a 6ft in the undertray compartment...yeeha

kroozzn63 ·

i just through that in there because i want the whole set single, dual,
panel, but they seem to be hard to even get close to without major dollars.
But its great to see everyones view without anyone getting offended go the mighty kombi

:bounce

bertie_beetle ·

Man, i'd so love a kombi. The ones that i always see for slae in the newspaper are the camper ones, and they are gay. i like the old split screen ones, they are very cool. VW Rock!!!!

bertie_beetle ·

P.S no offense to anyone who owns a kombi camper.

kroozzn63 ·

i drive my 2000 model car half the week and my kombi the other half ,Im
starting to enjoy driving the kombi more even with the sluggish take of and lack of power steering i love flying along past a new merc 4wd at 100kms when they are doing 80 in the 90kms "fast lane"

check out the blue one at the top of the page. It's for sale here in Melb for 3k. It needs a bit of welding done but mechanically it is terrific..go to the link for more details

twoguns ·

kroozzn63 ·

irsa76 ·

The only way I'm allowed to get a ute of any type is if it is Kombi Doka. Any model I think the wife said.

AND THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL :kiss HIP HIP HOORAY :bounce:bounce:bounce

tracash242 ·

thay come in so handy cruzin, camping, carting fire wood, sand and cement, ect, and are much better to drive than a panel, plus real aussie blokes drive utes,🙂

ratty 63 ·

I'd love to own both a twin cab and a panel, but the twin cab is just far more practical. Can carry 6 people in the front, and dogs, dirt, rubbish, etc in the back.

Yep sure you can carry all that stuff in a panel too, but see what happens when you try to hose the dirt out:duh

One day I'll get around to restoring my twin cab....🙁

I Love my twincab. Could fit in plenty of gear for the trip to Valla. Here's a pick of it at Valla Beach.

I will agree with the fact that having a ute attracts unknown friends.

I brought home more equipment and Volkswagen parts from Valla than on the trip down, and none of it was for me. Some even snuck in the back without my knowledge.

I charged accordingly - maybe I should forget the magazine and become a Volkswagen courier.

Cheers

YEP, THEY SURE IS PRETTY......................

VWMA Editor ·

I took the gates off to have them sand blasted, but got so used to the hotrod look of a twin with a naked tray, I didn't want to put them back on.

Trouble is you can't carry a whole lot in the back with the gates missing, and birds have a much larger surface area to aim their crap at.

Still, another 2" lower, nice set of pipes, lose the tow bar, and I reckon throw practicality out the window!!

Cheers

I must admit we miss our old trusty dual-cab as far as the family is concerned but the single cab I bought off Graham is fast becoming my favourite ! doing it up slowly.... going for a hot-rod look,flat/satin black, red and white, flames, white walls etc. I'm after some old style hub caps to fit the 15"merc rims if anyone knows of anything that might suit it would be great!

kroozzn63 ·

see if some moon discs fit from " mooneyes" they would suit the look

HSW ·

For me it’s just the amount of stuff you can carry in them.

Was thinking about updating awhile ago to one of the jap D/Cabs, but the tray is just so small and they are so narrow. Fit 3 comfortably in the back and front of the VeeDub, just try and put 3 in the back of a Toyota or Rodeo – what a joke.

Gota love the storage area under the backseat. When it was just me and her indoors we had the backseat out and a board made up to sit on top of the storage area and a mattress on top of the board for sleeping on. Bit of a squeeze, but great for the overnight stays when you didn’t want to set up the tent.

And don’t get me started about the carnivorous vault like lockable bin!

I'm getting worried. Do those storage areas really eat meat? And what kind do they prefer? Keep the kids away until we know it's safe I reckon!🙂
