I have been told that it is no longer legal for chrome to have copper underneath to protect from rust.
I have also been told that they do use copper in the A.C.T.
Any of youse Volks in the ACT know of a chrome plating business that does use the copper method?
If so..over to youse.....

Who told you it was now illegal to use copper under chrome plating? The copper is there to aid in bonding the chrome. try good quality chromed plastic, it has copper under the chrome yet there's no chance of the plastic rusting...

Its Illegal because of the Cyanide used in the solution to plate the copper onto the part. the disposal of the cyanide is the problem.
The copper is used to fill small imperfections on the surface of the item to be chromed. It is a fast build application and allows enough soft metal to be polished to remove the surface imperfections. Yes the copper also aids corrosion resistance as the Chrome and nickle are both porous
there are places in Victoria that still do use copper plating prior to Nickel and finally chrome.
Try All Metal Bumpers in Sydney 0438-765-097 Peter, he may advise you where they send all the work in Vic to be plated.

thanks for that vw54, the reason I am asking is me beeyootifull chrome bumpers are lookin like they are starting to rust. the prob is now I have gone down the chrome road there is no way to return..i'm a gonna, hooked, call it what you like.
so the plan is if they continue to deteriorate I will get them done again. but at about 300 bucks each I don't wanna be doing it every 18 months.

Try the place in Sydney ,,,,, n dont let the rust get too bad other wise they will be more expensive to polish n get chromed.

Prahran Platers on Malvern road Prahran (03 9510 7586) still use copper, just had my bumpers done and im happy with the work.
