that kombi is the cats palace....they love it!!

~air fooled~ ·

now just gotta finish ripping up the deck, ripping the posts out of concrete, cementing in new posts and staircase, cut up new deck and staircase material and bang bang crunch crunch owwwww bang it should all come together sweeeeeeeet!!! what do you reckon!!!?? good job!!!???

its been just me doing it with my sidekick up there as pictured doing all the easy bits, though she did have a go on the jackhammer, one of the funniest things i had seen in a while hahaha. not bad for a pen pusher who hated wood work at high school though hey!!??

KruizinKombi ·

Air Fooled, can you give me an idea on what the rear setup would be worth, with a hand rail on the outside? I'm supposed to be doing this for a friend in Brissie this January, but its going to seriously cut into my drinking time...

Welcome to www.aussierenovators.com/forum 🙂

KRUIZIN KOMBI- off the top of my head without the figures in front of me it cost in the vicinity of $1000 to make the rear steps and verandah.

step stringers (metal step supports) $350 for a pair
galv poles $180 for two
hardwood bearer and beams $30
kwilla decking $20
steps $200
bolts and nuts $50
cement $100 (i went hardcore on the cement)

jackhammer hire was about $50
paint and primer we already had

dont know about the cost of rails yet, wont be doing them to last......
hope that helps dude!!! if you want a more accurate breakdown or measurements or anything just let me know!!!

Hey there, looking good.

If you don't mind me going off topic here, is that poor bus in the background another victim of the dreaded VW engine fire? Looks bad up back!

~air fooled~ ·

yeah man, slowly roasted by a gasoline fed fire........hahaha...... bought it at the damaged vehicles auctions....

~air fooled~ ·

new bearer up....

this weekend.... nailing down the rest of the deck, destroying existing staircase and then cementing/attaching the new stingers (staircase beams/supports) and cutting and drilling and attaching new step treads!!! wooohoo!!! fun fun till her daddy took her t-bird away.....

the weekend after- jack hammering out the exisiting upright steel poles and concreting and attaching the new ones!!

then i'm free to go back to workin on me kombi woohooo!!!

~air fooled~ ·

the kwilla decking is a bitch though!!! apart from having numerous curved planks i have to pre drill every nail hole (thinking-16 beams x 20 planks = 320 holes to drill!!! eeeek!!!) as the not too big nails keep cracking the wood!! arrrghh!!!

Starbug ·

you know, im sure your parents would love an outdoor area with a water feature while you are at it 😀
nah, good job on the renovations airfooled🙂 do your olds get suckered into helping you with the kombi now that youve spruced up their house?

~air fooled~ ·

the old timers got sucked into lettin me keep my kombis there, and i dont stop hearing about it haha!! i didnt give em much choice actually, i let the tow trucks pull up on their lawn before i told em to look outside and greet mr tow truck driver with a smile hahahaha!!!
