Hi all,

I bidded US$1 on this kmh speedo that is shown below ages ago. To my surprise no-one else bidded on it and I won! The only thing is I asked the buyer who posts worldwide for a shipping cost, and he has come back saying it is US$50.00!!

Admitedly he did say that shipping to US was US$30 but $50 to ship a speedo seems a bit excessive. The seller has 100% positive feedback? Do you think the shipping sounds right?

Thanks

Steve

Bizarre ·

Does he say if it is air or sea freight???

MickH ·

Sounds a bit steep to me........:jesus

VolksFolks ·

Well $51 for a speedo aint that bad, but still is a little steep, seems like he has you over a barrell steve! do you have the safe surfers guide to ebay! if not i will mail it to you, its a good read

if u got a mate in the US get it shipped to him and then get him to ship it to u i reckon most u should pay $20US

PurpleT3 ·

I think the last speedo shipped to me from the states cost $20 for airmail and only took a week to get here. I reckon they might be trying to make their profit from shipping since it sold so cheap. If you have a spare speedo at home weigh it and go to the UPS or USPS web site and get an estimate for shipping, if it comes out to alot less than $50 ask the seller to justify their shipping cost.

Desert Moose ·

I had something sent to me with fedx about the same size From NY and it was $120us but it was here (WA) in 5days.
ask your ebayer if they can send it with Airborne Express to save you some money. the US phone number for pickups is 1-800-247-2676. I sould only be $15us from the west and $20us from the east......
Hope this helps 🙂

matara ·

Its actually coming from Germany, not the US. I will check with them if the price is Air or Sea.

Thanks

Steve

matara, I reckon I could name the seller. But I wont. US$50 does sound high even for germany. If its the seller I think it is you are lucky he even returned your emails at a $1 winning bid.

VolksFolks ·

I was watching this speedo too

Needless to say - if there is time its always a good idea to email the seller before you bid and get them to commit to postage cost before

Still Ebay is a great place to score parts cheap

regards

Happy bidding

Sounds excessive. 😠

vw54 ·

Well u could ask him you have changed your mind ...

Ive found postage rates outside of aussie are pretty vague to say the least nuthing is consistant i varing rates for teh same items from teh Us it depends on who they use...

but i suspose that 50 for a speedo is still pretty cheap.. I think mine cost around $105 by the time i got it here then spent more money resetting it to the Klms i want to match my car

I am having the same shite at the moment from china, post for 1 item is $33 usd, and 2 should be the same as he is overcharging anyway, he now wants $72usd for the 2 items just for shipping, i looked at his feedback and another buyer from aussie purchased a identicle item and paid the $33 postage, upon arrival the buyer noticed the postal charge was $12, what a rip orf, i today filed a complaint about this seller and just had a response from ebay, as follows

Hello Andy,

Thank you for taking the time to write to us with your concerns. I would
be happy to assist you further.

The Seller is responsible for determining the shipping and handling
charges on their items. eBay encourages Sellers to clearly describe the
item and the shipping and delivery terms in the listing to avoid
possible confusion.

Before bidding on an auction or using the Buy It Now function, please be
sure to contact the Seller with any questions you might have that are
not directly answered in the items description. Understand that, once a
bid is placed or the Buy It Now option is used, you are entering into an
agreement with the Seller to purchase the item, which most often means
incurring shipping charges and may also include handling fees.

I encourage you to try and work this out with the Seller. Usually these
situations can be amicably resolved. However, refusing to purchase an
item may result in negative feedback, as well as a Unpaid Item Strike
against your account if the Seller applies for a Final Value Fee credit.

Steve dont pay for it next time if you buy in Germany tell them that you have a friend that leaves there he will arrange shipping for you that way he can't rip you off before asking shipping cost
then he thinks your friend know how much the shipping cost to Australia anyway dont worry he can't give you negative feedback they can't write english....😎

i won a speedo on german ebay last year and the postage cost was12,50 euro(sea freight, about 6 weeks)

matara ·

Now I am really pissed off.

The good news the speedo guy has now quoted US$35 for sea mail which makes the speedo about $42 incl postage which is fair enough.

The bad news is another german ebayer has done the dirty on me! I bidded US$1 again with little hope of winning on a Blaupunkt radio on ebay:-

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2488881426

Nobody else bid on the item and I should have won it for US$1.

However the seller cancelled my bid (without my knowledge or approval) and the item went unsold!

The explanation he but beside it basically translates to say that the seller closed the auction early but I'm getting one of my German colleagues to translate it properly for me.

Of course I am going to complain to ebay about it, but it gives me the sh*ts and its just not cricket really is it.

I agree with you. If they didn't want to sell it for $1, they should have set a reserve or started at the minimum price they were willing to accept.
