New/Rebuilt Carburettors?

Hi everyone. I'm pretty new to cars and VWs in particular. I've just got myself a '68 Beetle with a recently rebuilt 1835cc, and I want to get a better carb for it. I am told that the current one is a 36mm Dellorto. I want to buy something like a 44 or 48mm Weber, and I'm wondering if there is anywhere around Sydney that I can buy these new or rebuilt with a warranty.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thank you for your time.

why do u want a bigger carb? if it is running well and not choking and giving decent power whats wrong with it? .......if u really want to go bigger get twin kadrons or webbers....a single carbie that big would be a bitch.

im no expert and im sure u will get other opinions.

The current one doesn't seem to be really cutting the mustard. My brother in law says if I buy a new one he will be happy to buy my current one off me to put on his 1641.

Personally, I'd prefer to stick with a single carby. Can you tell me why a single carby of that size would be, as you say, a bitch?

well a 48 would be too big and the problem with a big single is the jetting and set up if you can do this yourself go for a 44. or there is also the twin barrel progressive which is 32/36 which will give you economey but has the power up top. i havent run one on a 1800 but have see one on 2L and it flew on the freeway

Give Boris a call at Vintage
they do this every day of the week and can advise the correct setting and carbies

I thought this might be the case. My brother in law is very good at this sort of thing and will be the one doing most of the work, so I'll pass your comments on and see what he has to say. He's the one who suggested the 44 in the first place. I'll give Vintage a call tomorrow and see what they say also. 🙂
