Firewall Kit? Please explain?

*did* ·

you mean those bits of tar-board in the engine bay?
i would make sure that i had the one between the engine and the back seat side of the engine bay but the others dont bother me.
good for cutting down noise inside too.

68AutoBug ·

They were put there to help stop the noise of the engine from entering the cabin... Sound proofing...

If You don't replace it, as many [deaf] people can tell You, You will hear the engine, unless You use something inside the cabin... I still have mine...

Many people prefer to be able to see the painted firewall...

Best of Luck...

Lee ..

I am going with a clean painted firewall (as Lee refers to above) but will be insulating inside under the carpet behind the backseat.

It depends on what you want - mine will be noisy anyway because I will have only headliner in centre section of roof, a ragtop, big engine, loud exhaust and stereo. I wouldn't want to drive it everyday because you would end up with a hearing loss (I know I fit hearing aids for a living)...or noise induced stress problems!! But mine is not a daily driver so I don't care.

So short story is leave it out as long as you don't mind a bit of extra noise.

Hey Alan on a tangent what do you think of audiology? its got to be better than IT 🙂 is it still a couple of years postgrad...hard to get into etc?? Cheers Stephen

warb ·

no problem!.. thanks for the replies.. looks like its out 🙂

Dasdubber ·

Stephen, sent U2U re. audiology - I really enjoy it.

green57 - if you remove the insulation and want a clean look you'll have to remove the tabs that hold the old tar/card in place, and wiring tabs....then grind, fill and sand etc. If you want a nice smooth look of course.

exactly, no problem there,,
