Just finished restoring a Jack Brabham's Lukey exhaust system for my 1200 40hp engine.
these were SPEED performance equipement from the early 60s. the brochures of the day claim a massive 6 bhp at the rear wheels at 4200 rpm. Jack Brabham Conversions claim it gives a Beetle Engine 12 1/2% more power, with cooler engine temps and better fuel economy.

yeah i must give it a clean on the weekend... havent washed it for a while due to Sunny Sydneys water restrictions
pete wood ·
where did you find that?
kombikim ·
that is an awful lot of pipe!
jenz58 ·
Wow...that's massive....what does it look like on?...show us a rear view when it's on Dave....
silver ·
Is one of the tail pipes a dummy, It looks like the Genie system I have just put on my Beetle
vw54 ·
Yes the left hand pipe is a dummy... these have to be chrome yet ... wont be long
where do u find one well tahts a hard question ive had this one for a few years and about 6 of the bends were eroded and corrode through.
I got some mandrell bend and with some help ( speedster 356 ) welded them up and glass bead blasted the whole set up then hit it with a coat of Por 15 Silver.
The muffler is a new same as origional from Lukey.
Oh by the way i have one of tese fitted to my 56 Oval 36hp as well.

This all that HP mate you better get a neck brace and wheelie bars to be on the safe side.
Nice classic bit of pipe work.🙂
vw54 ·
Yes it was too good to discard... and a classic as well.
The one on the Oval sounds great much better than stock especially with the Judson fitted

i'm guessing the system is far more efficient than standard, it's a really nice merged setup.😎

its really well made thats why it was easy !!! to restore and make usable again
I think they did more reasearch back in the sixties when building components
