18" front & 16" rear, but I'm looking at outboard CV's for 2006 which will give me about 20" rear

"25 days to go"

[Edited on 2-11-2004 by Desert Moose]

VWFREAK ·

That rocks, love the colour. Can't wait to see it in action.

Desert Moose ·

Well 18 days to go ............

I hope to start the car tomorrow......

all the wiring is done (apart from some plugs for the spotlights) and i'll be doing the fuel lines in the morning, so fingers crossed:thumb

It's still going to plan(kinda):duh

RISKY^VW ·

great work mate i love it
do you want me to run the engine in for ya ?? 🙂
just try to help 😀

Desert Moose ·

Well it run's :party

seagull ·

will it beat the V8 ?

Desert Moose ·

hope so....LoL..... still waiting on the axles, so I haven't driven it yet:repuke

seagull ·

it looks good and will jump further than maxes car

we found the rear hubs on maes car were craked across the center line .I found the ones in the shed were the same so I gave them to max , they fitted ?

Desert Moose ·

Is max's running Harvey

seagull ·

Sad to say no , the front is out of the car , shit he is good to watch down there hey . I scared to get in it now as its to fast for me LOL :P

Desert Moose ·

are you gunna come down for a look....?

seagull ·

I think so at this point .Can I ask if your running the motor in before hand .

Desert Moose ·

I hope to get a run in the car before I take it down, but thats not looking good at this stage. I have run the motor for about 2 hours and I'm changing the oil but maybe I'll get to take it to the pines...... Harvey is only a test anyway

Desert Moose ·

So the road is a bit rocky but I'm almost on track again........

13 days to go with only 6 days able to work on the car, and the "to do" list is getting longer not shorter:duh

only time will tell....😎

Desert Moose ·

The car was at the 4wdshow in WA all weekend. with only 6 day left and a lot of work to do........😠

but here is a pic....

phatrat ·

Chris..if it runs, as good as it looks, you better make room in the trophy cabinete...

Well done!

Steve

pyr0 ·

Desert Moose ·

Thanks, I was so scared it would look like crap when it was only orange:o

I drove it off the trailer and into the shed.....lol ( with no brakes and 4 bolts holding the left axle/cv's in) but still I drove it:P

pete wood ·

hey moose, with such small side openings, how do you actually get into the damn thing?

BTW, looks awesome 😎

Desert Moose ·

pete wood wrote:hey moose, with such small side openings, how do you actually get into the damn thing?

Think oral-b.....lol . the roof is hinged and has locks to lock it closed😉

barls ·

looks good moose im sorry i didnt notice earlier mate

Desert Moose ·

For all that are interested,

I went out for reconnaissance for the race on Saturday night for the FIRST drive of the car……😠. Driving in single file (slow) I decided to give it a bit to see how it went, well it goes like the clappers and only to find I had NO brakes (almost wrote it off into someone else before it started):o. One of the front brake lines had come lose and the tilton bias had jammed on to full front. Needless to say after recon and we fixed the brakes, I was a little put off but we still got second in class for prologue. Then in the first round after 2 and a half lap’s "I" ( and it was me ) smashed a CV to bits giving the car a belly full of fuel over a big jump.
So to cut a long story short the car was a DNF but I still came home with a trophy for best presented.

All in all it was still a good weekend and lookout next year…..lol

Photo’s will come later because there 35mm not dig:P

Wag67 ·

bugger about the little problems. at our first race with the class 6 we lost a clip for the tappets but still managed to limp home. but when i got the jeep i put a hole in the head and filled the engine with water but that didn't stop us it was a broken tie rod at 90km and the lack of stearing that ended our race.
well hopefully you will sort out your problems and enjoy yourself. i see that the national that is being held in WA is coming along well.

Craig Torrens ·

How's it running, base 1916cc good enough for ya ?

Desert Moose ·

Craig Torrens wrote:How's it running, base 1916cc good enough for ya ?
yeah easy Craig, if anything it was to light over the rear because I couldn't get the power down, but thats a problem I will live with....lol

and yes Wag67, I think it looking ok for Easter. To be honest
I have been in the shed working every night of lat and haven't looked a whats going on with it.

Doug Sweetman ·

I got this (hold thumb and forefinger a gnats dick apart) close to seeing your car and saying g'day onthe weekend. We were on our way (the wife and I) down to Bunbury for a housewarming and stopped in at Harvey to say g'day to my mate Stuey (the dipstick at the start line with the flags), but they wouldnt let us over the other side of the track (at like, 2pm) to say hello so we thought f%#k it and left.

I think I could see a blur of orange in the pits from the canteen ...... looked good from the distance !

What sort of CV's have you got ? I'm guessing it was the last jump on the front straight (canteen side) ? that did it. It doesnt look like much standing next to it, but some of the big trucks and class 1 buggies get HEAPS of air on it. Max Pilmer especially.

Hope you enjoyed the trip anyways. Good to hear it has turned a wheel in anger !

On the CV's, do you know Troy from Vee Dub repairs and spares ? Runs a class 2 buggy I think, used to have a passat motor in it, but has now gone 4AG 20 valve route. He was showing me a lovely meaty, shiny Porsche axle that was going in his buggy...... sounds like it might be in your future ?

Desert Moose ·

Doug Sweetman wrote:What sort of CV's have you got ? I'm guessing it was the last jump on the front straight (canteen side) ? that did it.
I feel sorry for you knowing Stuey.......lol.
And you hit the nail on the head, that was the jump. I run 930 cv's with molly cages but it wasn't the cv's fault (it's a long story).

barls ·

sorry to hear you broke stuff but isnt that the point of racing moose to find and redesign them so they are stronger

Doug Sweetman ·

Did he do his customary half time antics ? Like running the length of the track ? Or a little cowboy dance ?

I'm sure he was dropped on his head as a child.....

I've known him since he was 12, and he was a groomsman at my wedding.

It mustnt have been the CV's fault if you have 930 CV's, I dont think they make any stronger do they ?

Desert Moose ·

Yeah thats it barls, now if only my wife could see it that way.....lol

you can get 934 porsche CV's Doug, but 930's will do me $$$

Desert Moose ·

more will come tomorrow.................:thumb

Dub-Buggier ·

What can we say Moose great things come from small beginnings.
i remember what the rolling cage that you bought looked like and you’ve bought you buggy a long way. once everything settles down you’re going to have a great machine!!.

Didn’t happen to build two and leave one around the back tho did you??

Desert Moose ·
