Recently Stolen: \'69 Blue and White Beetle

https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/29812/recently-stolen-69-blue-and-white-beetle

Yiuk ·

Hey folks,

My first post here is a sad one. Last Sunday 3rd October at around 7:30pm, a man was seen loading my now missing '69 Beetle onto the back of a car trailer being towed by a station wagon. This took place in St Kilda, Melbourne.

My unfortunate missing baby was not running at the time (having spat a spark plug and stripped the thread) and was due to go into the shop this month for engine and other repairs required for roadworthy. Of course the thief chose the worst timing of all, taking place between the time my insurance ran out and the time I got it fixed. So now, basically I got jack...

If anyone has seen this car being towed or is aware of it's location please let me know on yiuk@bigpond.com.au as I am desperate to get it back.

The description is as follows:

White and blue '69 beetle rego plates EWA516. Front and top of car are white, blue begins jus above the rear window, covers the back and angles down the rear sides. Fibreglass running boards, rear guards and bumpers. Tinted windows. Mag wheels (silver and white), Saas leather steering wheel and leather gear stick knob. Interior, metalwork painted black, rest covered in a grey velour. Front seats and belt replaced. Extractors, single exhaust, 1500 engine with a blown plug at the cylinder at the front drivers side of motor. Dual carb which has somehow been mounted backwards by previous owner.

It was looking a bit sad and leaf covered at the time having been parked under a tree but rest assured we love our beetles very much (we also have a recently restored '67 which used to be mine but now belongs to the other half) and would love to see it come home and get it's much needed TLC rather than being stripped for parts.

The matter has of course been reported to the police but should the car and it's contents return no action will be taken.

This car is greatly missed... please help bring her home...

Here is a case of us all thinking -not to take what we don't rightfully own.
We share your pain and hope and pray for a miracle.

Dam VW crime is on the rise in a big way.

That's so sad - I live in St Kilda - when my beetle got smashed up and was parked out in the street wounded and unable to fend for itself, I was amazed at the amount of parts that suddenly went missing. I really hope you get your dub back....

(we are considering buying another beetle but I had been thinking about the fact that we have to park it on the street...hmmmm)

Yeah I hope so too.... I had been looking forward to getting it running again as it really was alot of fun when it was moving. It was a shame it died when it did because the other bug was far more desperate for attention so all the money went on it. I had a few plans for it...especially after seeing the '67 all nice and shiny from it's make-over and paint job... I saved the stolen one from rotting on someones front lawn when i bought it and babied and tinkered with it for months keeping it running until it spat the plug. I'd hate to see it butchered for parts.

I'll give it a bit of time and if it doesn't reappear I'll have to start looking for a new one... sigh...

What bastards. That type of thing makes me sick, because my beetle is parked on the street a lot of the time too.
I will keep an eye out.
We should all hope to find it and report its location to the police!

I suggest:

You post a pic here
Post the engine and pan numbers here also
Check VW shows in the melbourne area (incl) carparks around them for these two numbers.

More than likely they will turn up sold on then you can trace them back to the thief through the buyer. The backwards carb and other individual points may be all you need to look for. Lucky if you see the whole car again though.

Sorry for your loss. This is my greatest fear when I go for a three / four hour walk and the Dog is parked in a NP carpark. Come back to find wires pulled or wheels missing etc.

Posting a pic would help however my gut feel says that this baby is in a garage being pulled down and rebirthed. It's the sad truth unfortunately of what goes on. My commiserations.

Squiz......

OK, who thought it was abandoned and took it home?

come on,
fess up :o

Swampwitch ·

Have you contacted your local council and made sure it wasn't picked up as an abandoned vehicle. This is of course depending on how long it was sitting there and whether any neighbours have complained about it.

Sorry to hear about your loss. A lot of work and effort goes into restoring a Dub and having it stolen is just terrible🙁
