Here's a picture of the bunny that Heather (my wife) brought home from work (mid 2002) - she had to save it from the kids she works with... :o:o:o

We've thought of all the usual names like 'Flopsy', 'Thumper', 'Bugsy', and 'Patch' as well as a few more personalised names like 'Edward' and 'Freddy' (because he has long sharp claws! :o).

We seem to have settled on "Bunny" because... well, he's a bunny. 馃榾

Feel free to post your pet pictures here. :thumb

I found three kittens on the side of the road near work early this year. I hate feral/stray cats, so I took them home. I found a home for one and got stuck with the other two.

This one is Sandy. He was the least tame of the three and bit me a beauty when I caught him and I bled all the way back to work, with my hand around his neck so he couldn't bite me again. It took quite a while to tame him, but now he loves me. 馃檪

He really has a beautiful nature, its a pity he's so slow!! Here he is eating the rabbit's Bran Flakes!!

Here's the other one, Rastus:

I've seen a couple of your posts around, it looked as though you'd been busy on the forum

What's going on with the kombi?

Hey I love the pics of the pets. Rastus's eyes are an amazing colour

Sandy's a bit like a peach face parrot I had
It thought it was a rabbit and wound hop around on the ground with the rabbit and eat with it etc, so funny 馃榾

jenz58 路

Hey forgetting to mention, Bel makes cricket noises now as well as dak dak sounds 馃檪馃檪馃檪:thumb

KruizinKombi 路

Here's 'Snuggles (long story). She's a kelpie/blue heeler and was born in our Lounge-room on Xmas Day '92. A shot of her throwing the tennis ball for herself...

[Edited on 19-10-2004 by KruizinKombi]

KruizinKombi 路

Last but not least, here's my old mate 'Kitty'. She's about 11 years old and was another 'side-of-the-road' job. I took this shot just now; as you can see she'd pretty relaxed....

[Edit] Alas, Kitty Kat was laid to rest last week after chronic kidney failure warranted one last trip to the vet.... Probably one of the most difficult things I've ever had to do; hold her in my arms while the vet administered the needle 馃檨馃檨馃檨

KruizinKombi 路

Hi Jen,

Peewee (kombi) is getting a few additions, including the alarm & central-locking kit that has been floating around my shed for the past two years!! (Hooray!!馃榾)

Unfortunately work has been slow due to a couple of uncomfortable stitches (see photo) which make bending my fingers painful. I have been persisting with my fingers taped together. I really don't want to split these stitches because there isn't a chance in hell of me subjecting myself to another local anaesthetic injection into the nail bed!!

Progress finally came to a halt when I realised that I don't have the correct bolts to replace the one's I'm going to have to drill out of the driver's door hinge. 馃槧

How much improvement have you noticed since having the work done on Bel?

[Edit] I've deleted the photo in the name of good taste....

jenz58 路

Ouch!!! You are in the wars. How did you do that?

How's the shoulder?

I figured you were probably missing a bit to continue with athe job.

Bel is going so well now. I think everything is finally sorted out. She's running like a dream and held the road so well today on the cruize

Hey and I can hear cricket noises like you said, so sweet 馃檪

Love your menagerie, they're a cute lot

Look after yourself Col, no more injuries

KruizinKombi 路

Ok, just so everyone knows how easy it is to do yourself an injury... The shoulder Jen is asking about is my dislocated collarbone which I achieved when I slipped on a wet rock and fell on basically flat ground. About three months later it has basically come good, but its permanently dislocated.

The cut fingers were achieved while trying to get some new steak knives out of their packaging. They had zip ties stuck around the handle and I thought I'd pry them off with a butter knife......

The two most common ways to hurt yourself:
1. Doing something you do all the time, are comfortable with and don't believe is dangerous, and
2. Doing something you've never done before without thinking of the possible dangers.

Good things to remember when working around cars. Funnily enough, I don't seem to injure myself often in the workshop....

jenz58 路

Jen, there is a kitty litter tray in the room. The rabbit is (mostly) house-trained and uses it. I do find hard little black balls around the house though. :o

Andrew, interesting shot of Meebles. That really gives me a better idea what he/she looks like. 馃榾

Rob, nice bunnies!!! Those four lined up are the cutest!! I'm going to be building a bunny-run in my backyard very soon, I'll post some pics when it's up. How do your bunnies like the car? Our's came home via a 90 min drive sitting behind the back seat in the bug and was quite happy! :thumb I though the noise or heat might have bothered it, but apparently not!

I should have titled the thread "Show us your pets". Has anybody else got some 'Pet Pics" they want to share?

We used to have a cat, Geri. It always lived inside and was never let out for any reason. I think it only ever saw the outside world twice and that was for a vet check ups. Anyhow he got out one night and came back in the morning then for the next two weeks went mad continually trying to get out everytime someone came in or out. Eventually he got out and didn't come back the next morning. Neighbours claim that they saw the Strata gardner taking him away to the RSPCA in a trap so we wnet down to collect him but he managed to escape from the RSPCA as well. So no more Geri.

We have always had fish. I have bred fancy guppies for a long while and recently put gold fish into onle of our breding tanks for the boys. They had three each so I went and bought three Koi as well. Man do they grow fast!
They all have names and are looked after by the boys daily.
I still miss Geri and one day when we move will get another cat with a shared indoor / outdoor run.

The Bronze.

vanderaj 路

Sorry to hear that Geri is gone... :-(

Greebo is an indoor cat who liked to go out and watch. In April this year, she watched me get into my car from the gutter of the road, and a total dickhead in a Commodore collected her. He must have aimed for her, because this is a three near four lane wide street (ie cars can be parked both sides and still let two cars pass if they're careful about it). I thought she was totally skittled when I saw her tumbling on the road, twisting like a mad thing.

Anyway, I rushed her to the emergency vet... I am so glad that the speed cameras hadn't been fitted to the Western Ring Road at that time... I would have gladly given up my license for Greebo being alive though. Luckily, she got there in time, and a few operations later, she's nearly as good as new. She has a metal rod for a femur in one of her legs.

Now she hates being outside and soon, when she's living with me again, she wont have to be.

Andrew

KruizinKombi 路

Doug, my mother-in-law breeds Jack Russells and she gets the occasion odd-sized one, but 18" tall is huge!!!

Jay, we're waiting... I thought you might have got on the bandwagon a bit earlier!

Bronze, sorry to hear about Geri. We lost a cat about a month ago. I have no idea what happened to her, but there has been a lot of shooting going on around the farm lately, thanks to the bounty on foxes. I guess I don't really want to know either. Photo below.

Andrew, glad to hear Greebo is doing well. When we lived in Morwell we had a cat get bowled over on the road, but unfortunately he was dead when I picked him up. Its never easy losing a pet, they really do become part of the family.

Here's our latest new resident. He/she was extremely wet and bedraggled and unable to fly. I wouldn't have bothered catching it except it was being picked on by a pair of adult magpies. No, I don't believe they were its parents. I've let it dry out in the chook shed and let it go already.

Jen came down for a couple of days, but when we got back from out VW hunt on Thursday, we discovered that bunny had escaped and we were inable to find him in the dark.

This was not the best news as I'd just spent $200 on fencing materials while we were out!! Fortunately bunny appeared less than 100 metres from the house the next morning. It appears he may have taken lodging in the disused dairy we have near the house.

Thanks to Jen's help, we now have a brand-new bunny fence erected, so he can play outside all day without us having to worry about him.

We did find a few VW's for sale, but I'll post these elsewhere. Here's a pic of the new bunny fence. I still have to attend to a few details, but it keeps bunny in and the dog out.

heaps of birds and fish

jenz58 路

Wow these pets pics and the stories are amazing.Sorry about Geri the Houdini cat

That Jack Russell has been eating too much chicken, the growth hormones kicked in 馃檪

Col you have a magpie now :o

and I hope Bunny hasn't found an escape route out of that brilliant enclosure 馃槈

Bob gave me a big barking welcome home from 'Sunny Gippsland' yesterday 馃榾

KruizinKombi 路

Wow, Brad has quite the menagerie!!

The bunny has found several escape routes. Heather caught him in the yard just as he was trying to escape via the gap under the side gate again! (probably trying to get back to those greener pastures). Yes the fence is finished (sort of), it's amazing how handy tent pegs can be!!馃榾

Speaking of menageries, when I was a kid we had: chooks, ducks, guinea pigs, dogs, two magpies, a corella, a cockatoo, a galah (called Malcolm {Fraser}), budgies, love birds, cats, tropical fish, gold fish, marine fish, a fruit bat and a wallaby joey that we reared for its first year. We never had rabbits though, until now...

While I'm on the topic, I'm trying to decide on a name for the little fella. Suggestions please?

The_Bronze. 路

Yeah we miss Geri but he was getting a bit ferral with the kids. Here are a couple (of the better) pics of the fish.

When we move into a house with a yard and have a lifestyle that has time for pets then we hope to get another cat and two dogs. One will be a Malamute, Huskie or Samoyd X Shepard (Long story) and I personally want an Alpine Dingo which has just been classified as a registerable dog and is being bred in Northern Victoria somewhere. Saw it on 4 Corners I think.

It's great seeing everyones pets (and homes). Makes the community more personal. Helps me to remember your names better too.

The Bronze.
(Can't get the fish pics to upload so just imagine fish swimming around. Thanks)

Going to have to classify two wild ducks as pets and get a pic of them.

They have been returning to our pool every winter for the past couple of years. This year they have really settled in. I can see them from where I'm sitting. They usually stay on the other side of the fence but one just had a wander about the yard. Before that one took of into the air about 15 feet, did a sharp turn and dive bombed into the pool, so cool馃檪

Silkworms would have to be the most unusual pet I've seen so far, very cool! :o:thumb

and a .....

rabbit.

The giggle is the wife found the rabbit on our front lawn (inner Sydney) one Saturday morning a couple of years ago......... i t just hapened to be Easter Saturday!...serious

Turned out the rabbit likes to play dead and rools over on his back and lays there for a couple of minutes. turn out the previous owner thought he was dead and threw him in the garbage bin.....this is serious.....and he hopped out and went for a wander.

Needless to say we didnt hand him back!

Best part about the silkworms is they will soon hatch from the cocoons, the moths will lay HEAPS of eggs and you can actually keep them in the fridge until next mulberry season!!!!! So if you have any kids or want me to put some aside for you let me know 馃檪 An yes they are genuine 馃檪

We've taken to leaving the door of the bunny's room open at night, and for the last few mornings I've been woken between 5am and 5.15am by a bunny sitting on me with his nose in my face!

It seems he's been joining in with the cats on their early morning romp. I've got the cats trained not to wake me up, but now I have to start work on the bunny.馃榾

Here's our newest family member:

Welcome Diesel.

He's six weeks old and a Ridgeback cross and should serve as a good Baja and house alarm. It seems some people here in Dubbo have difficulty following what is is and is not their own.

He will grow quite big and will be very loyal. They were bread for Lion hunting which is good cause we have a zoo nearby. At the moment he's really only good as a Lions snack because he just sleeps all day.

The_Bronze. 路

We haven't had a yard for 5 years and the boys were promised a puppy when we moved as my old dog died when we moved down from Queensland.

We heve researched this breed and had it shortlisted for quite some time. Because of the heat here we were reluctant to return to owning German Shepards and Spitz dogs.

Diesel will accompany us for most holidays as Sally's car is (Telstar) will soon be traded for a wagon. He's very playful and loves the torment the kids provide him. We hope he settles in well and share or many happy moments.

KruizinKombi 路

Congratulations mate!! A man can't be without his dog. Particularly if things are going missing from the yard. My dog is a great deterrent, she even keeps the landlord and the meter man out of the yard!! Stupid thing is, she's an absolute suck, and once she knows its ok, she'll let anyone pat her and has never bitten anyone! Her bark is enough. 馃榾

fatboy 路

WOW!
A dog with the power of THE FORCE.
Can she stare at other things and get them to float or is it just balls ?:P

Jamox 路

If only I had a scanner I could post some pics of my pets. We've got 2 dogs, 2 fish, chooks, turkeys(yum), 2 tremendous lambs, 2 cows, 1 bull, 1 galah, and two pigs.

I have three older sisters so my dogs Bugsey and Mate took over being my brothers. We got up to mischief I can tell you! Their favourite vehicles in the whole world are our Taipan beach buggy farm-hack, and our red volkswagen S winter farm-hack. You just walk past the buggy and they are in it ready to go somewhere.

I don't like turkeys much because they fight my roosters so I just wait for christmas...mmmm...roast turkey.

My pigs are called one name collectively becasue they are inseparable and respond together. WE call them/it 'Porky Sphincta'(sp?), it means Pigs ass. THey were actually ferals caught in a trap as piglets. They were so small they could originally fit through weldmesh squares. They were as tame as dogs when small but now they are too big to be running free during the day and are not as friendly as before. i am sad to say they will probably turn into roasts, sausages, hams etc. Being on a farm in a drought.... all they do is eat with no return for us so they have to go.

馃檨

Finally, our suffolk lambs (really hoggets now) have cast-iron stomachs. They eat everything in the whole garden up to about my chest heaight(and I'm 6' 4"). They are like African impala becasue they stand up on their back legs to reach as heigh as possible. If you are nearby they will use you as a convenient ladder which is very painful(Grandpa has a monster bruise). Their diet consists of grren apricots, green almonds, green grapes, avocado leaves(and all the other leaves of the aforementioned fruits), citrus leaves, mulberries and leaves, figs and fig leaves etc(YOU GET MY MEANING???!!!) Everything we have is edible to these animals.

Oh yeh, thegalah ran into a power line as a youngster so Dad cought him and looked after him. His wing was all smashed to bits so Dad amputated it with an elastrator ring. He is tame-as for Dad. Dad calls him Perky ....I call him viscious, savage, hateful etc... thank-god he can't fly after me. hehehe OUCH! (He bites)

I alsoused to have a pet red-back for a few years. Supposedly it should have died according to my book because they only live for a certain time. This was the most monstrous spider ever. It was fed a steady diet of cabbage-moths and blowies with locusts as well in the plagues. She was great, the only thing was I could never pat her (I am sure she wouldn't have bitten me????)

You tend to have hundreds of pets on farms throughout your life.
Catcha
Jamie

The_Bronze. 路

Sound much the same as where i grew up in Queensland Jamie. When we were out on the farm we had Sheep, Goats (Very nice) Turkeys, Geese, Peafowl, Cattle (50 head) and a few pigs. I had pet snakes as a kid - 3 carpet and 1 childrens python. For them I also had to breed mice.

As it was a sorta tourist park it also had 70 dofferent breets of parrots, 30 pairs of ducks and about 170 different types of rare fruits and nut trees. I spent most weekends mustering or underground mining out at the Gemfields.

Oh there were the dogs to - Mutley a fat Blue Heeler - good for nothing and a few kelpies with a German Shepard called Satan. He was perhaps the most useful as he kept people away and gave me some peace when I wasn't feeding and watering birds.

I don't miss loading hay, cutting lucine, shoveling seed and and cleaning the house. Somehow I managed to fit in some schoolwork and a swim now and then.

Jamox 路

Bronze! How the hell did you end up with that many birds??? Were they all in cages? That is an awful lot of work each day. Are you glad to be out of it?

KruizinKombi 路

Jamie, don't green almonds contain cyanide or arsenic or something?:o

I also grew up with heaps of animals: dogs, cats, ducks, chooks, budgies, love-birds, cockatoos, galahs, a currawong, magpies, a corella, pidgeons, marine, tropical and goldfish (including seahorses), fruit bats, guinea pigs and a wallaby. Pets are a great exsperience for any kid. :thumb

Jamox 路

Geez, I don't know Col. Every day the parrots would chop the almonds off and the pigs and lambs would clean them up off the ground. It was about a month ago so I suppose they would have kicked-the bucket by now馃槈

I agree wholeheartedly about the animals, I think farms are the best for kids. We have also had guinea pigs, rabbits, crows, kangaroos, mice, snakes, a magpie, spiders etc, lots of lambs every year, heaps of yabbies and tadpoles, bobtails, galahs and my sisters had cats. After the last one died, Dad and I said no-more and now we have three ferals -mind you they are pretty flat-out(skinned and tanned:thumb) I'm sorry, they are just too destructive on wildlife. the same goes for foxes, I got one yesterday with my dogs. It makes me wild that some idiot would have released foxes into Tassie intentionally!馃槧

Other animals are great though.

Buggy Boyz 路

Well since Jen has so mny it was onlt fitting they get there own page. I have started uploading the animals and am now over 1/2 way through them ..

[url=http://]http://jenspets.netspot4u.com/[/url]

The_Bronze. 路

Yeah it was a fair zoo alright. Even though I was there (defacto Stepfathers) for about three years it never really got off the ground. There was a guy (John) who built the cages over an 8 month period. As quick as they went up they were stocked. It was quite sad now I remember it with row and row of beautiful birds fed on a budget. They had plenty of room to fly but it just wasn't right somehow on some level.

It would take just under two hours to water and feed 1/2 each afternoon the the other half needed to be done the next afternoon. The livestock had dams and plenty of acreage so just needed kulling and shearing now and then.

I am glad to have left it behind but return now and then to have a look and see how the fruit trees have grown.

I've only got 2 animals out back. 2 mongrel dogs. One is mine that is now 15 years old. bought as a foxie cross but turned out with looks and temperament as a chihauhua. She's mostly deaf, mostly blind, and has a massive hernia. Still happy enough, but her last day is surely very close.

Had to put my last dog down too after 13 years. She survived being hit by a car, jumping out of a moving car, a 3 yr holiday in New Zealand, being dressed up in dolls clothes, taken up the tops of tall trees. poor dog. loved to death I think.

The other dog is my sisters. Bijon friese cross maltese I think. (sp?) Its a pain in the .. proverbial. Stupid. Digs holes. Gets filthy. Needs clipping. Its got a great temperament though, unlike dog 1. I was babysitting it when my sister lived in a flat, but then my daughter adopted it so its now mine I presume. A good watch dog though. There are 3 houses in my street which havent been burgled according to neighbourhood watch. Mine is one of them. Although that could be because it looks like osama bin ladens mob used it as a training ground.

Have had salt/tropical/goldfish, guinea pigs, mice, tortoise, pigeon (rescued from dogs mouth), and a bean plant with resident spider as pets as a kid. You know when you put a been seed in the side of a jar and watch the roots grow. Mine got transplanted into a Double Brown beer can and toured New Zealand with us. Died suddenly though. I think my parents killed it in the end. Or maybe it got root bound.

Mr Hopper looks interesting! What breed is he? Does he live in the house too?馃榾

Bizarre 路

He is an angora(sp?)
We actually found him a few years ago wondering the front yard on Easter Saturday.
He plays dead and rolls over and doesnt move for a minute or 2.
When we found him we asked around the area if any one lost a hairy rabbit. A block of HC units down the road a girl said that another girl had one but it died last night so she threw it in the bin :o

We stopped asking and decided he could live with us! 馃榾

Does he live inside - NO! you seen how much thoses thjings poo!

KruizinKombi 路

Yeah I have, but ours uses his tray. :thumb

Well sort of Newish.... born November 2002... this is tiger... Nearly lost Him due to the Parvo Virus going around ... cost $500 to save him... people up the street also spent $500 and their pup died.... Because the virus can live in the ground for 12 months, I had to spray everywhere with this terrible smelling solution which kills the virus... and the smell nearly got Me a few times... When Tiger returned home from the Vets, He had to stay inside for 4 weeks with Me taking him outside to the toilet every few hours... His Menu is Chicken & Pasta or Chicken & Rice and natural Yogurt... He is allowed out in the backyard with the other 3 dogs now, but He still sleeps with Us , but prefers to be outside with the dogs during the day...

Wow, when this post was started our dog Sasa was much younger - she is now almost 2 1/2 years old. Here she is at last year's Valla VW Spectacular in the back of the borrowed PMG kombi we used for the trip. I think I may have posted this here before (only pic thus far of her in a vw I have on the puter).

BanoraBus 路

bronze we had a ridgeback and I still think he was the best dog I've ever had, he was 14yrs old when the cancer took him away. He was 45kgs of muscle.

Anyway last year we went to the pound and saved "Angel", she's Kelpie cross but has finally grown into those ears, so the picture was takin back in Feb

Starbug 路

here are my real and adopted doggies

Starbug 路

now we have norman, my first adopted doggie.
hes my friends dog, but is always coming over and staying at my place.
he owns the brown velvet recliner in the lounge room and is loathe to give it up.

Starbug 路

and this is rudi, normans little friend.
he is the son of the doggy that found us a few months ago, and hes just as cute as his mum.
rudi owns the bean bag and likes to kill my pot plants.

This is Sally, our really ferocious Bull Terrier! Anybody that comes near us she smiles at them-honest! She is totally useless, we'd use her as an anti-theft device but she's just too soppy- she does look the part though, trouble is some people believe all bullies are vicious and are scared of her but she's ours and we love her,

Starbug 路

that is such a cute bullie!!

Doug Sweetman 路

and a couple more

PrettyBlueBug 路

Awww..... this thread is so damn cute, and I just have to add to it! :P

Currently, three cats have my house:

The eldest is Ruby... she used to hate me so much (was originally my sisters cat) but now she actually calls my name and follows me about the house like a puppy dog!

The next is Flint. He was the runt of the litter and my Mum found him in the trading post. He was just 6 weeks old when she brought him home, and he's such a sleaze! 馃槈

This one is Saturn and she should be a blonde! She continues to roll over then OFF of whatever she's laying on, and not know what's happened..... but she's pretty!

And I just HAD to put my bf EgeWork's cats in here too, since I love them so much...

This one is Angus, and she's such a little cutie! She's pretty old, but has the clearest green eyes and softest fur!

And Snowball is cute when she wants to be! Unfortunately she went missing and hasn't been found.... 馃檨

I might as well put up a photo of one of the huge Bristlenose fish in my Mum's tropical aquarium.... since it's the only fish who poses for pics long enough!

Enjoy!! 馃榾
