I've never done it but I work in international freight, I would suggest you contact a company called BTI Logistics (03 8336 9000) who specialise in this sort of stuff.
Don't know if they do personal cars though, they may only deal with companies who import cars.

I know a guy who brings in 356's fairly regurlarly. If you have found something he will split a container with you. He budgets about $4-5k a car for transport in the US, sea freight and customs clearances.

I know he comes back tomorrow from USA. he's importing a car to so should be well apt at giving some hints and tips.
