ruckus 路

Well here she is.
She's just had her engine rebuilt - nothing fancy yet, all stock.
Body-wise she's ok. Stupid council in Geelong dropped a cherry picker on the roof a while ago (we think) and there are still a few dimples - don't know if they'll show up or not. Some rust in the usual places (bottom of doors etc) but won't really know till we get her stripped. She'd had a really bad paint job before we bought her a while ago.
Pan's stuffed as you'll see in later pics. The rear window was leaking for a while and stuffed the footwell behind the passenger and the rear parcel shelf.

Immediate plans:
Rebuilt balljoint/IRS pan with front disks (if I can bloody find or build one)
Koni's all round.
914 rims 馃榾
And maybe a Ragtop

Any suggestions?

ruckus 路

Phew... and I'm spent! Sorry to anyone with dial-up.
The front bumber is all rusted up so we've gotta get a new one and some new mirrors.
Apart from that we want to fit some guages around the speedo (prob. tacho and 2-3 small ones) and maybe some sportier seats.

Got that right!! 馃槈
Love the engine bay pics!

barls 路

the exhaust looks like a tuck away quiet pack, but it looks like a nice car mate

hehe, you know its a real dub when it has a Jabiluka sticker on it馃榾

Wish my engine bay looked like that ! Probably would if I cleaned it .....

beerdoc 路

Hi Rob

Sweet looking ride (dont worry a pan will turn up )

Got to have the anti estabishment sticker on a vw for sure

I am getting a headliner done at Car Trims pty ltd 1205 Toorak Rd Camberwell 98895183

Brent seems a really good dude and has done a shit load of volksy

There was a bay camper in there getting everything done and I was impressed with his work

He has to get back to me with total price of headliner and seats ( possibble leather in front ) but the headliner is $550 which sounds dear at first but not if have a look at the job in total

I reckon thats a days labour and materials ?

Catch ya soon

PS chewy you still got my jack cause you havnt told me what colour coopers mate

ruckus 路

Doc how much is leather going to sting you for the seats?

Now that sounds tempting!

ruckus 路

Anyone know how hard/expensive it would be to fix rust problems behind the back seat down towards the firewall?

beerdoc 路

ruckus wrote:Anyone know how hard/expensive it would be to fix rust problems behind the back seat down towards the firewall?
Ye Rob you can buy the whole floor pan for about $ 130 and replace the lot or cut sections out

Or get an irs replacment pan lol:P

beerdoc 路

oops $130 is for one side only

Leather seats have not got exact quote but I was talking ball park figure of $1500 - $2000 including head liner

ruckus 路

and coming (drum roll)... ragtop!

beerdoc 路

ruckus wrote:Doc how much is leather going to sting you for the seats?

well headliner and all leather seats front and rear $2200

could be 250 cheaper for vinyl in rear but have not decided yet but I am boots man and all if the funds are there

beerdoc 路

Oh ye that roof will look sweet

I was sniffing around the post when you came up

whats happening with your pan?

VWFREAK 路

go the leather, you won't regreat it. Looks a million bucks and lasts longer.

beerdoc 路

Ye thanks boner my daughter thinks the same (it will be her ride )but my money lol

beerdoc wrote:Oh ye that roof will look sweet

Just waiting for the boys at Volkspower to get back to me. They might have just what I'm after. If not then a date with low55 shall be had and a merry chopping and welding session will go down.

ruckus 路

I had the best day today! DOVW was so awesome and inspiring that I couldn't wait to get all the bargains I bought on. New bumper, mirrors, window winders and last but certainly not least THE 914S ARE ON!

ruckus 路

some other shots. I'm like a giddy bloddy schoolgirl!

ruckus 路

Bought a disk assembly for the front too so she's going to get the conversion and her dropped spindles done ASAP.
Many thanks to MR930 and Sax for the wheel related stuff this weekend.

Can't believe the only thing that went wrong was a big gash to my hand while changing the wheels!馃槧

beerdoc 路

sweeeeeeeeeet

Does that mean I am of the hook to get your wheels down
cause it was going to be to much hassle anyway.

Ride is looking good mate

ruckus 路

Yeah thanks for the offer though Doc.
She's booked in to get the spindles and disk front and subsequent lower on friday. Cause the tyres are pretty big I think she'll sit pretty well with the drop the spindles'll give. Here's hoping 馃榾

Suzii 路

Be thankful Marty locked the Combo and hid the keys otherwise my 70 beetle would be wearing the wheels........lol

ruckus 路

hehehe. he mentioned you'd been staring at them mumbling: "...must have the precious..."

ruckus 路

New carbies on: 36 Dells.

Big thanks to Ali (primate).

[Edited on 13-1-2005 by ruckus]

ruckus 路

Seems the more money I spend the rattier it gets. Had to pull the left front quarter forward alost two inches which revealed a heavily crumpled and bogged-up fender. Replacement was quickly found, but it's getting rattier by the day :thumb

[Edited on 18-1-2005 by ruckus]

ruckus 路

Here's the revised ride height with dropped spindles and 175/65s front and 195/65s rear:

Could do with a bit more though, what do you reckon? :thumb

ruckus 路

A little extra bling doesn't go astray either.

sax 路

Looking good Rob, having seen that particular bling before.

62deluxe 路

Lookin good.
It's got a nice bit of attitude.............

ruckus 路

Thanks mate. You should hear the growl when the dells get active now. That's attitude! :thumb

beerdoc 路

Elmo the rat

Happy new year rob

E 路

is there a program that allows you to draw up Beetles and the such (referencing your previous post of the ragtop). How much did the brakes + droping cost?

Anthiron 路

go to www.busselecta.com E

looking bloody good there ruckus

ruckus 路

Anthiron wrote:go to www.busselecta.com E

Cheers mate!

E:
Dropped spindles cost about $570
Disk kit was $150 or so at DOVW.

Plus fitting and your right arse cheek starts to feel quite warm.

I've got some spare rotors if you want them. Then you'd need spindles and calipers and you'd be set!

Anthiron 路

oh and ruckus has photo shopped in the rag top from the kombi 1. u cant get a ragtop in the bugselecta

ruckus 路

Popouts are in. One side took 1/2 an hour and I thought: "Oh, that's ok. The other side will be quicker. Bent hinge, an hour and a half, and one gagging fit later (torch in mouth and two screw-drivers) the other one was in. Serves me right for getting cocky!

[Edited on 2-3-2005 by ruckus]

ruckus 路

Oh and there's a new addition to the family too.

And no-it's not a super, but it is a 74 according to the compliance plate but flat windscreen and bj-disk front end. I'm only in it for the pan really and I assume it's gonna be ok?

[Edited on 2-3-2005 by ruckus]

ruckus 路

Got some racks today. Will post pics tomorrow but kindo look like this:

beerdoc 路

Thats awesome my I can buy bigger items now lol

ruckus 路

ruckus 路

Hey nice work Doc. You must be a good student mate 'cause all my students just say I crap on too much 馃お

Being a geek does pay off every now and then.

kroozzn63 路

time to slam it

ruckus 路

Yeah that's coming. The narrowed beam you see here is going to be stored for the oval (down the track). The adjustable beam I bought from Ben the fireman (harryman) will go on this and once I've got the tyres sorted I'll have to think very carefully about what carpark to use at work because of entry/exit angles 馃槈

Can't wait. This will be done in two weeks!

beerdoc 路

Its a
bit lighter in the front now

beerdoc 路

somebody had a heavy brake foot

beerdoc 路

THE oval

beerdoc 路

Ruckus I cant stooooooooooop with this photobucket

shit You have created a monster

ruckus 路

Not with the photobucket, but by leaving that pan there!

Look at you go you madman!

ruckus 路

Hey Doc here's the go-pedal I was talking about. Might be a bit tricky as it wouldn't be as easy as just knocking the pin out of the hinge, but we'll sort it out eh?

It's 244mm long, 46mm wide; so a bit different to the standard one. I was thinking we could even graft the back of the standard one onto the back of this one?

Dasdubber 路

Great stuff - can't wait to see it progress over time!

CAFFINEPUSHERMAN 路

i hope you are practicing your spanner skills knackers dont worry about paying me back for lugging the pan home it didnt damage the gates on the single cab ! the doc said he wouldn't mind fixing me up with that payment he was a little frisky when we were fitting the extractors on the single cab today over and out putty lips:P:P:P

beerdoc 路

So what are u saying Pusher I get 2 HJs

On a seroius note score Elmo some newly powder coated arms

ruckus 路

CAFFINEPUSHERMAN 路

a mate has found a shed here in gtown and is looking for a few guys to share the rent i will keep you posted

ruckus 路

Cool sounds like a good option.

Lots of work done this weekend. I don't have any pics, but many lessons were learnt. Turns out both pan halves need to be replaced, one of the trailing arms had to be cut (in various ways) to get the sucker out and there is pretty established rust right down the tunnel.

I'm just glad I've got good mates to help me out. Many thanks to Beerdoc and CAFFINEPUSHERMAN for all the help yesterday.

Ah well... off to Bunnings 馃檪
