1300 or 1500 or what??

Howdy all...

I've kind of asked this before, but it was a while ago and I was too excited about too many things to really take it all in....
We are getting our 71 1300 beetle tomorrow (how exciting - will post some pics as soon as I get some).....

As I said, our new one has a 1300 engine in it, but our last one had a 1500 (and with that, I could take people on at the lights - if I wanted to - lol). I still have the 1500 engine.

So I have the option of keeping the 1300 engine in, swapping to the 1500, or somebody posted that I could upgrade the 1300 to a 1600?? My 1300 is one owner - garaged all its life, near mint condition, so a bit unsure about starting to 'play around with it' - ie should we keep it all original or is engine swapping not an issue with regards to 'originality'??

I do like a bit of grunt (nothing compared to the set ups most of you guys seem to have - but the 1500 was fast enough and gutsy enough for me).

So my question is : what would you guys do??

But...keep in mind that I also have a 71 superbug which currently has the 1500 engine in it - I am getting rid of the superbug one way or another, so would I better off selling that with the 1500 engine (it's unregistered) or sell as body or parts?? Need to make best financial decision regarding the superbug as need all the $$ we can get....

If I were you I'd drive the car with the 1300 in it and see how it goes.

Then if you're not happy with it you can swap the motors over.

what ^ said... see how you like the 1300 first... then you know what you're missing out on if indeed you notice the difference

I say we build the 1300 up into a methanol breathing,turbo charged,nitrous injected monster!

1300's are cool,My slammed rat look has one in it.Just puts around all day.
The 1500 will give you more go tho.You just gotta think about what you want.
They are interchangable,so atleast you got em both to play with.:thumb
