CB Hotdog ·

As mentioned, am getting our 1300 beetle tomorrow and starting to think about some bling for her (well i think that's what you call it - just some accessories, nothing major at this stage)...

so am thinking about eyelinds, mesh visor and the wheel guard panel (that square bit at the end of the running boards on the wheel guard) - things along those lines....

But at this stage, would be interested to know what accessories were available/standard for this model?? Ie - were visors, eyelinds and the other guards things made for 71 1300's or were they for other models??

Any other add ons you can tell me about for 71 1300's?? I'm not necessarily going to add all this - just want to know my options for consideration...

try looking on here mate for some ideas

Wow - that's great.

But another dumb question - have heard a lot about EMPI - are they VW part manufacturers - or what??

Are the parts available genuine VW parts or are they made (by empi??) to fit VW's??

if parts available for a certain year, does that mean that they were available "back in the day" or are they later add ons??

If I was trying to keep my car true to it's year (not sure that I will be that anal - but just so that I know what I am playing with) is it OK to add these parts?? I guess that's the crux of my question....

barls ·

empi, bugpack, flat four and a few others are all aftermarket manufacturers. most have been around for years and it all comes down to personal taste for parts. mr bug down there is another supplier as well. some are new designs ether improving on old ones or old designs still made.

CB Hotdog ·

So taste aside, if I added any 'extras' this shouldn't inhibit the current 'original' state of her?? Ie it would be seen as added extras as opposed to a detraction from her originality??

barls ·

id go with added extras but everyone tastes are different. id go for more of the period pieces so you dont detract from it unaltered state.

CB Hotdog ·

That's what I don't know - what would you call 'period' features??

barls ·

ones from that era im not 100% on what they include but im sure someone on here will be able to tell you

CB Hotdog ·

thanks Barls - will repost question see if someone can give me some specifics. Thanks for all yr help...

Isaved this in my favourites site as I have a1971 Karmann SuperBeetle convertible. http://www.webwrench.com/airaccess/1971catalog.shtml

You gotta love this. Pam

CB Hotdog ·

that's awesome - thanks Pam.....

CB Hotdog ·

Hi Pam

Got your U2U - thatnks heaps. But is that an american site?? Have I read that their model years don't match ours?? Ie - should I still be looking at 71 on that site or earlier/later??

Special Air Service ·

71 was 71 whether Australia or US so period accesories will be the same.just make sure you buy the best quality you can afford as the fit & finish on the budget accesories sometimes leave alot to be desired. What your looking at sounds sweet to me:blah

CB Hotdog ·

thanks SAS - do you know how/where I can find out what accessories were made (originally) for my beetle. Until i get confident, just want to stick with the ones intended for my model.

Somebody mentioned about sticking to 'period' features - I guess this is what I'm asking about - how do I know which features were for my period?

Does anyone know?? Or is the website that Pam directed me to definitive for that year??

dragbug ·

"Period" feature's were what was available for your car around the time it was produced.Hence the "period" name.

EMPI is a company that was first started in 1954.It stood for
European Motor Products Inc.

CB Hotdog ·

Thanks A - so how do I find out WHAT was available for my model??

dragbug ·

Empi did a really cool n retro decal/stripe kit for them,
Also you had the option of wooden interior accessories.
Both are still available today.Just have to order in from the states.
