dont like the petty as much it chews petrol like fat kids chew popcorn, has more body roll than a bunch of fat kids in a bay, and off road performance is limited like a fat kid who cant reach the candy
Daniel - i hate fat kids in stilletos and stockings... never mind
VWFREAK ·
Thats too hard a queation, especialy when you say it has to be new.
I think I would leave it upto the wife. She's a V8 rev head.

In that case I am more than happy to be a fashion victim !
Have you ever driven a new beetle ? don't knock it unless you try it !!!!!!!!!
Lams ·
if not this (because it's not released yet)
I'll get the 2.0TDI Golf

Oh oh, here we go again. Let's not turn this into a another excuse to criticise people for their favourite car, whether NB or otherwise. The whole idea of slagging people for their choice of cars is ridiculous anyway as it's a subjective topic. There is no logic to it. I mean we all like 30 year old cars which struggle to get to anywhere near 100HP, yet I bet none of us would change our minds just because somebody said VWs suck because they're old and slow.
One could argue that driving an old VW is for fashion victims, as if we were to make a logical choice based on sensible things like power output, fuel economy, service intervals and availability of parts etc etc we'd all be driving Hyundai excels or some other hunk of S!@t like that. Anyway, rant over.
If I was given the $50K I would buy an R32 and chip in the extra $15K myself. If it was a max of $50K, probably a Bora or a Passat.
aggri1 ·
Bla, I wouldn't want to spend that much on a new car. I could fully restore who knows how many old vee dubs for 50 grand.
But, since someone else asked what they should spend 50K on... I'd think about a subie. You know, boxers and 4WD. Or, a diesel european something. Depends on where you're driving, what you like doin', doesn't it.
rustycamper ·
Id beg for a bit more and get a Lotus Elise. I drove a mates a little while ago and they are soooo much fun. Like a motorbike on 4 wheels.
kombikim ·
A Toyota Camry with lots of options, then go out & crash it really good,
with the insurance payout I will then go out & buy something old & nice,
this still complies with the guidelines of the question😀
pyr0 ·
hmm 50g....turbo beetle ?

buzzbug ·
for me it would be a subi forester GT with leather interior.
with the change i would get some big bling bling wheels and dump it on its guts. :thumb:thumb:thumb

2 litre TDI golf...
or new beetle cab...
barls ·
r32 golf or bora vr6 fourmotion or one hell of a resto bug( 2.2L t4 5 speed box the full works)
ancientbugger ·
I'd spend 40k on a classic Jag 50s/60s and keep 10k for any problems that would occur.Real leather, real wood and a nice straight 6 up front and at the end it would still be a classic.
ancientbugger ·
Actually I think Barls is right spend it all on a beetle and go over the top!
cabrio70 ·
Subaru Liberty GT or 3.0RB depending if you like turbo4 or 6. They have them at the new Osborne Park Subie dealership so you can drop in.

Don't be scared !!!!! Go the new beetle cabrio, apart from a few minor issues with windows which was more of a pain in the butt than problematic, my car is sensational!!!!!! It has just had it's first birthday and it looks and drives like the day it came out of the showroom ..... and it is a daily driver !

mmm. alfas are lovely cars. (mum has a 156 2.5 v6) and it sounds a treat. the engine note is to die for..
is a well designed car in my opinion,
but when u are looking at 2 grand for a timing belt change and service!!!! or is that 2 grand for only timing belt change?? either way. its rediculous. PLUS. they depreciate like shit. an alfa 166 (about 02/03 model) goes for around 38-40k these days. new they are 86K. rediculous.
anyway. i think myself, i would choose a Honda Accord Euro Luxury version, which will only cost about 40k plus on road costs. thats if i wanted a nice plush, safe, powerful enough car 🙂.
if i wanted a sports car i would most likely get the Honda Integra Type S. which is about 43+on road costs. and if there is any money left. spend it on tuning the darn thing to make it about 200kw..sorry. but u just cant beat honda motor quality.
Anthony

Honda Accord Euro Luxury, took one of those for a test drive before I bought my cabrio. The salesman almost had to pry me out the seat, that is one nice car .....
Type R integra ????? Nice ......
