VWFREAK 路

Thats a sweet little ride. I remember seeing this one at the Chapel st cruise.

Sweet!

EgeWorks 路

Thanks mate, your ride was the nicest there! My girlfriend wants me to get a KG now!!!!

beerdoc 路

Very Sweet

Anything we should know about on the inside or under neath

VWFREAK 路

EgeWorks wrote:Thanks mate, your ride was the nicest there! My girlfriend wants me to get a KG now!!!!

Thanks Mate, thats a pretty big call. I think I really stood out for the simple fact I had the only KG there. All the ride were sweet, mainly because I'd never seen them before. The Melbourne Dub sceene rocks, but I still miss the Sydney runs and shows.

ColumBUS 路

thats a tight ride i love the wheels!
got a list of mods for us?
i ave an lbug too its going through a gradual customisation. i can only hope itll be as beautiful as that

P.S. love the photoshop work, real artistic work!

EgeWorks 路

Well it's got wheels, which need some new tires so I can slam it, at the moment they would rub if lowered. It's also got extractors and a single quiet pack Empi exhaust. Carb is a single 44IDF on a pretty well stock 1600TP. Engine goes ok but saving the pennies for something that really rocks.

I just put in a stereo, two 7x10s, two 10" subs and two 6" which I am going to mount in the doors with nice new custom door cards. Powered by a 625W Coustic AMP and head unit with MP3. Soon (hopefully) whack in my car computer for stacks of music!

The interior is all black carpet with a custom centre console (not quite finished cos I'm slack). I need a new headliner though.

What does the future hold? Big engine. Slammed. New front Guards. Anything else people reckon I should do?

barls 路

dont forget the fluffy dice and noddin dog. but seriously it looks good mate

EgeWorks 路

Haha, dice goes without saying馃槈

vern74 路

I have a nice pair of yellow fluffy dice in Vern
Sets everything off nicely !

barls 路

mine will be oing back in the bug when its rebuilt they survived the crash while the taz on the dash didnt

vern74 路

Dice are very resilient
Mine have survived the kids
Not sure whats worse

barls 路

im thinking my crash but not by much. but im afraid the noddin dog has left the building. please if any one see him on the f3 can they please pick him up as he has been missing for far too long. last seen with my bolle sunnies and one 6x9 speaker

vern74 路

I can see a pattern in that
Crash much worse than my kids cause they know better than to touch anything in Vern

barls 路

yeah but what am i to do. sorry for hi jacking your post edgeworks

Bizarre 路

Ahhhhh....... L's

the nicest of beetles!

What else.... not much
I would slan the front and IF anything a set of 16's.......17's if you are feeling expensive

beerdoc 路

Edgeworks

Car Trims ( Brent ) in Camberwell do headliners fitted for $600.00

EgeWorks 路

Thanks for the info Beerdoc. I plan to do the new one in the next couple of months. No way I'm fitting it myself, from what I've heard it's a horrible job if you havn't done it before.

1303Steve 路

Ho

Go the struts, Im doing an L Bug as well. Ive been told that the later mudguards with the triangle shaped bumper bracket holes are slightly wider.

Steve

EgeWorks 路

Steve,

In regards to guards, the triangle ones aren't really wider, they are higher though and stick out more at the back. I don't think they look as nice as regular Superbug ones. The reason I knwo is that I have a Super guard on one side and an L guard on the other, hence the reason I need a new one.

I'm finding it damn hard to source a left front Super guard, been looking for months!

beerdoc 路

Gaurds

Well there you go I love this site for info having had Kombis 20 years ago and doing L bugs for Daughters now

Lowered Struts?

Who does them Properley as in lowered shocks and smaller Diameter springs

Not just shortened springs I dont like that idea

EgeWorks 路

Beerdoc,

Go here http://www.superbeetlesonly.com/ if you want to know about supers. There is loads of good info.

Some really nice struts are made by V-Force: Struts link here . A lesser option is some lowered strut cups. It's a pretty cheap option with ok results.

I'm sure Steve and Blue74L know a crapload more than me.

[Edited on 2-11-2004 by EgeWorks]

1303Steve 路

Hi

Im using struts made by Vintage in Sydney, V Force do basically the same thing. They are the best thing you can do to an L or S bug apart from Nolathane bushes.

Steve

1302Steve wrote:Hi

Steve
Thanks steve but could explain a bit further Vintage struts are modified ?

Nolathane bushes is just a type of bush or part of the lowering process

Sorry about dumm questions and for pnching your post edge

Bizarre 路

Beerdoc

I was (and will again) using V Force struts.
You have a choice of insers but the most econiomcal is Sachs Golf inserts and King springs

You can but different stiffness spring / insert for different handling

Have a read of Richard Holzl's stories in VMA and his site is www.beetleracing.com

u2u me if you want more information

beerdoc 路

Had a look and man the are the goods

Thanx blue74l

EgeWorks 路

Put these on last weekend. Thanks to Empi (Adam) for the kit.

pete wood 路

interesting, looks really different, like to see it in the flesh to get the full effect.

BTW, what is the bolt pattern on the slotted rotor you posted before? Looks different to the wheels you have on it, which BTW, look really nice too.

EgeWorks 路

The slotted rotor is one of Blue74L's, not sure what stud pattern, you'd have to ask him. I wish I had them though.

The reason I put the kit on was to make it a bit more unique. There are at least fout tiger mica (metallic orangey) bugs around Melb so I was feeling a little common. Next on the list of things to do is lowering.

ruckus 路

Cool. C stripe is a nice touch

Doug Sweetman 路

Blues is Porsche pattern - 5 x 130 (written on the disc)

empi 路

Looks sweet bruvva!
All u need to do now is lower the crap outa it!
Glad to see it on a car at last.
Adam

EgeWorks 路

Woo! My new struts are on the way. From V-Force, 4" lowered with eccentric strut tops and gas inserts. These babies should be a nice upgrade for my ride. I should have them in before the Jamboree on the 17th so all you folk coming along can have a gawk馃檪

Bizarre 路

Saw them in the nude before the coat of pain and assembly and they look the piece then.

They look the guts ducks now they are together!

Your L is going to look schmick!

EgeWorks 路

Eyelids went on today. These are the biggest pain to fit! I had to snip and bend then to shape. Horrible job but it turned out all right.

beerdoc 路

Speachless

Struts look absolutly the ........... again speachless

and green with envy

Its a pity I am over budget with my daughters but we will see what happens

Will try and get to the Jam and look at this machine

EgeWorks 路

Thanks for the great compliment! I know what budgets are like馃檨 I just save and spend in little amounts. Maybe in 5 years I'll have it like I want馃檪 You gotta have patience!

EgeWorks 路

Woo! Lowered with new wheels! Thanks heaps to Richard at V-force who got them to me in time for the Jamboree! I think it looks quite nice now.

Bizarre 路

NICE!!

Looks like you mean buisness - in a nice way!

EgeWorks 路

Thanks Barry.

There is so much more to do but it's getting there. I try and do at least one more thing new on it for each show, even it is just little.

I think it's really cool when you go to shows and see the same car but it has something new done to it, much nicer than seeing the same cars (nice as they may be) exactly the same each show.

Eden.

bond 路

very nice man!

62deluxe 路

Sweet bug mate, checked it out at the jamboree. Really noice!!!!:thumb

empi 路

Dude its lookin SWEET.
Ad

Che Castro 路

I like!

EgeWorks 路

Thanks for all the comments guys!

The next thing to do is rear suspension. It needs firming up. The front is handling really well now.

Next accessory will be pop-outs I think. Gotta save up though.

I also need a bit of paintwork done and the rear apron fixed as well. I guess you could call my car a daily driver/on-going project!

EgeWorks 路

Excuse the 5min photoshop. This is what I'm thinking for the side. I need to repaint the window edges anyway as the paint is chipping off due to poor prepwork. Very gloss black.

barls 路

nice i like it mate do it

EgeWorks 路

This weekend I repainted my headliner with vinyl dye. A lot of masking and a little bit of patience and this is the result.

ruckus 路

Great Job, that looks awesome!

I wouldn't do the black side thing as I think your car has enough subtle statements to make it stand out without the need to do something obvious. You don't see too many Ls as clean as yours around.

[Edited on 15/5/2005 by ruckus]

PrettyBlueBug 路

You know I love your car..... but it's still too cute to be mean! I think Spider needs a photo in here too..... :P

Bizarre 路

wow.... an original head liner!!

Looking good mate

pete wood 路

love the black window surrounds, really different.

Just looked at ya new wheels too, they barely get in the front guards. how much negative camber are you running?

EgeWorks 路

As far as negative camber goes I havn't measured it. But I would estimate it to be around 1-2 degrees. I also have 185/60 rubber on the front so there is no rubbing. Speedo is about 4-5% out as a result of the smaller diameter.

EgeWorks 路

My lovely girlfriend Pretty_Blue_Bug got me these as a present on the weekend. They are (were) NOS German fingerplates. Fitting them was a breeze and now no need to worry about scratching my paint.

PrettyBlueBug 路

:kiss I'm glad you like them!
Mine came today, I hope they're as easy as yours were to put on! :P

Bizarre 路

Looking good Eden

Love that dyno shot of you next to a stock Super

Barry

EgeWorks 路

Thanks Barry. It was a good shot hey, it just happened that he pulled up next to mine. He was very interested in how I lowered it and wanted to do his own. His super was a 71 and completely original, no rust, he's the second owner and bought it from his Aunt who got it new.

How's your car going?

beerdoc 路

Nice touch of Bling Bling never goes unoticed

It is also good to have a womans involvment in your project/daily driver

Oh bugger you know what I mean !!!!!:thumbnn[ Edited on 1-8-2005 by beerdoc ]

Dasdubber 路

Wow, great stuff. I was never a big fan of those spider wheels until I saw them on your car - they look absolutely awesome - great choice!

Big thumbs up to you! :thumb

(well thats not a big thumb but there was only a little one as an option here!)

beerdoc 路

Wow lets make it 3 :thumb in as many minutes

Good lookin L eden

EgeWorks 路

Thanks guys! I got a comment from the MAN himself. Your ride is about as perfect as it's possible to get Dasdubber.

And Beerdoc, you're right about having a girl to help you out with your hobbies. Especially one as talented and nice as mine馃檪

And thanks to Barry as well, who is sending me some centrecaps for my wheels, from the goodness of his heart - you're a champ!nn[ Edited on 1-8-05 by EgeWorks ]

excellent job, looks sweet.. 馃槈

This is one sure way to keep your VW passion alive on the home front, and keep all things sweet for a long time.Well done to both of you-nice looking ride.nn[ Edited on 2-8-2005 by nbturbo ]

PrettyBlueBug 路

My Bug's prettier..... hahaha j/k 馃槈

killakornkobb 路

eden your car looks tops! reckon i could come for a ride somtime? check out the weber?

i think doing above the chrome in glass black will look great also.. just gotta find a spray painter :jesus

EgeWorks 路

Thanks again guys. It's good to hear so much positive feedback! Sure you can come for a ride anytime Damien. You have U2U.

EgeWorks 路

Well this week I got some fat new torsion bars put in and lowered the back at the same time. Much thanks to Steve Carter for the bars.

I also put on some centrecaps which I have been waiting ages for. They really finish off the wheels well. Thanks Barry.

Sorry my ride is a bit dirty but it's been bucketing down all week here in lovely Melbourne...

vern74 路

Very sweet
I am a little jealous and I certainly won't show Vern and of these pics cause he would want some "work done on him"

Bizarre 路

That finishes them off! 馃槈

If you look back there is a pic of your can in almost the same spot , and has your car changed!

Looks good.!:bounce

EgeWorks 路

It sure has changed a lot. There are still lots of things to do though. I'm not sure what the next thing will be, depends on time and funds. Maybe some ratio rockers or pop-outs.

bajachris88 路

U got a good security system on that thing? I would be crazy about protecting it. I would have proximity alarms/warnings and everything, wouldn't want people talking the caps, wheels wateva really. Maybe thats an idea to invest in. Just a suggestion.

EgeWorks 路

Haha. I got no security on it at all. I've actually left it unlocked for days at a time I'm embarrassed to say. Lucky I guess. The wheels don't use a normal stud and the the caps can't come off unless you take off the wheels.

My bro has a VH Commadore which is parked next to mine all the time, it has been vandalised a bunch of times and nothing on mine. I guess thugs around here think VWs are crap...

Worst that has happened is people opening doors into it in carparks. That annoys me no end.

PrettyBlueBug 路

Luck runs out eventually sweetie. I love your Bug as much as I love mine, and would hate to see anything bad happen to it.

Bizarre 路

pop outs would really suit your car:thumb

PrettyBlueBug 路

As soon as he finds popouts, I will be there like a flash to help put 'em in!!
They'd definitely suit it! 馃榾

killakornkobb 路

man that is the toughest looking super i have every seen! 馃檪 it just keeps getting better and better!

EgeWorks 路

Got these on over the past two days. 36IDFs. It was the WORST job. No end of trouble fitting them. Anyone who is thinking of doing it for the first time - take out the engine! It was really hard to do inside the engine bay. Still needs a good tune but at least it's running!

BTW I need a longer hex bar, anyone have a spare they would like to sell?

I also rewired the engine bay - 30 plus year old wires are very brittle! It was a wonder the car even ran...nn[ Edited on 23-9-05 by EgeWorks ]nn[ Edited on 23-9-05 by EgeWorks ]

EgeWorks 路

Haha. I just realised I still have the hardy home job oil breather fitted... got to put the proper one back on, of course it needs relocating like just about evreything else when you have twin carbs...

PrettyBlueBug 路

Oooooohhh!!! Look at it! :kiss

Not much more can fit in there now! 馃槈

It looks meaner.... but it's still a Beetle... too cute to be 100% mean! 馃榿

beerdoc 路

Yummie

Make sure them bolts are tight or she be no good

A have seen holes cut in the sides to make mounting and adjusting easier cause the motor wont come out with those big boys on

:beer

EgeWorks 路

I did cut holes for idle adjustment and spark plug removal. The bolts are a real pain, the ones on the inside took a good 15 mins each but I'm pretty sure there are no air leaks.

I can tell you, I wouldn't like to have to do it again. If they need to come off, or the engine out, I might have to give in and get someone else to do it. They sound sweet though!

PrettyBlueBug 路

Sweet isn't the sound I'd use to describe it's purry rumbling goodness! 馃樀

PrettyBlueBug 路

PrettyBlueBug 路

I bought Eden these polished aluminium billet running boards as a Xmas present, and had to let him have them early since they look so good! :P

馃憤

[ Edited on 11/12/2005 by Pretty_Blue_Bug ]

Bizarre 路

Awwww......only ONE picture!!

C'mon

They look great!
Been thinking about them my self

PrettyBlueBug 路

I have many more I took during the installation process..... I knew I should have put a couple more up! :P 馃槀

EgeWorks 路

Ask and you will receive Barry! I have to say I was impressed with the quality of the running boards, well formed and welded with good thick mounting brackets and a great finish. Better than most new Empi stuff I've seen.

I also put this in yesterday too! Splitta fans you can bag me out all you want!

PrettyBlueBug 路

I love that badge.... :P

hipichic 路

That badge looks great, I wondered why you guys bought it from the swap meet 馃檪
The running boards look schweet too!

EgeWorks 路

Thanks Tracy! How's the engine swap process going on yours?

hipichic 路

hasn't started yet, so much other stuff been going on lately. Hopefully it will start after christmas.馃槩
it's going to have to start soon, my gearbox is getting really sad :?

killakornkobb 路

almost a year since the last post on this baby!! anything new happened eden?

68AutoBug 路

I will say, its one good looking 1303S Super Beetle...

Two things though...

please replace the heater hoses...
I see they are taped up... also make sure the aluminium hoses are clamped at the ends...
if either of those leak... Your engine won;t last long....

and please paint Your gearlever..... lol...

its usually the first thing I do with any VW....
along with the handbrake....

cheers

Lee

PrettyBlueBug 路

Awww... it's been resurrected! Yay! :P

killakornkobb 路

couldnt let it die laura... if i ever get adolf going again i'll hafta ressurect my thread too.

still got that sticker for PBB 馃榾

PrettyBlueBug 路

I'm sure I saw Adolf outside your gf's place a couple of weeks ago...? Though yesterday I saw VDUBBA there. 馃榾

What sticker is it again?

killakornkobb 路

yeah adolf WAS back - for about 3 weeks - then diead again lol

vdubba is ripping it up again.. i got a new bumper bar coming from germany for him now

PrettyBlueBug 路

What's wrong with Adolf now? And when can we all go for another cruise someplace now the weather is more friendly? :P

EgeWorks 路

please replace the heater hoses...
I see they are taped up... also make sure the aluminium hoses are clamped at the ends...
if either of those leak... Your engine won;t last long....
Yes I did this some time ago! I also made custom flanges in the tinware so it can't get loose or leak at all. I may post some pics if you're interested.

As far as other stuff goes not much has happened. Too much rust to bother about improvements at the moment.

Hertz 路

Eden, shoot me a U2U when you plan to get tyres for the slam job.
i can hook you up with some new conti's cheap. Any sizes including smarts.

EgeWorks 路

Slammed?? What are you talking about it's already 4" lower than normal:P

Hertz 路

Only 4 inches.:thumb

PrettyBlueBug 路

馃榿

Bizarre 路

Dont you dare go putting 135's on your car!

馃槑馃槑

empi 路

Yeah go the 135s Eden and dump it some more...

EgeWorks 路

Thanks but no thanks on even lower. I like my car to ride and handle well. In my opinion supers just look bad if they are scraping the ground.

EgeWorks 路

Well it's been a while. Here is the latest shots of my car. Just put on hoodjax that Laura (PBB) got me for my birthday. Also had accident damage fixed as some guy drove into it.

Bizarre 路

Man - your L is looking sweet these days :thumb

boristherat 路

Wow! Not normally a fan of the later beasts, but this has certainly got the juices flowing.
Everything just looks so right!
Awesome, just awesome!

aussiebaja 路

that looks great ,what colour is that

EgeWorks 路

Thanks for the comments guys. The colour is based off the Holden Tiger Mica but it has a different base coat and I think some yellow pearl mixed in. It was apparently very hard to match.

liltimmy1300 路

Wow, that looks fantastic mate, can you add me to msn wot_do_u_think@hotmail.com . I have a few questions to ask you about your twin carbs & wheels. Thanks
Timmy

EgeWorks 路

Sure thing mate. I've added you to my MSN contacts so ask away if you see me online.

bugluv 路

Looking very nice! I love looking at L bug projects 馃榾 Gives me inspiration 馃槀

PrettyBlueBug 路

Just thought I should update this thread.

Eden is doing great, but his little LBug isn't doing too well and is at mechanic's and then panel/paint shop as we speak.

Just up the road from our house when it was raining and had greasy roads, Eden lost the back end in the wet, flicking it out. He overcorrected and flicked the back the other way into a 4WD's front bumper bar. Thus the rear right wheel guard is almost inverted, the right rear wheel has some wicked camber that it shouldn't... and I can't remember what CV bit was stuffed up as well but it was. The 4WD owner was pretty pissed as he's had his car for a week. :P
So poor little Evil-but-still-too-cute LBug is on the road to recovery. Lucky for Shannon's comprehensive insurance... although it wasn't far from being written off.

Anyone have a Beetle C-Stripe kit they'd like to part with?

The Bigfella 路

Ouch - best wishes for the recovery

Bizarre 路

Bloody hell!

Hope things get better

How are the wheels???

GASBNR 路

Anyone have a Beetle C-Stripe kit they'd like to part with? [/quote]

PM sent Laura

EgeWorks 路

Hey there. Thought I'd chime in here. Just heard from the panel shop car is now all good. Thanks to Empikg it has a replacment C-stripe kit, they sure are getting hard to come by. Hopefully the wheel is ok, it had some scuffing on the rubber but no dings out of the rim so fingers crossed it's not buckled.

Unfortunately no pics of the crushed bits.

PrettyBlueBug 路

The Evil L Bug is back looking handsome as ever!
Looks wicked having Eden's and my Bugs in a double carport again. 馃榾

Dasdubber 路

Good to hear its on the road to recovery - sorry to hear about the dingle though.

SunshineKarmann 路

Hey Dude,

Just been following your progress, great job on the car. I have a 73 Karmann Cab and am wanting to lower the front and rear end - just need to improve the stance. I think the stance on your bug looks perfect. Can you give me some idea of costs together with the best way to go. Would prefer to get a credible mechanic to do the work as I am not great with suspension! Also, like to make the mods as 'reversible' as possible! Cheers and once again, awesome bug!

EgeWorks 路

Hi all - sending this thread back from the dead. Car is now being parted out - almost everything is up for grabs so if you need any parts let me know. I'll be putting it as 'wrecking' in parts for sale section soon.

Cheers,

Eden.
