VWFREAK ·

I know it dosen't quite fit the whole ghia period feel, but thought what the hell.

I should have the kit installed wednesday arvo so stay tuned for pics that night.

Apparently I can expect a 3 - 6 foot flame out the back.

Can't wait!

blk56 ·

Do you mind if i ask how much it was and who you got it from ?

VWFREAK ·

The kits worth $130.00.

Try this address:

www.customflamethrowers.com.au

There are some cool pics, even a suzuki mighty boy with a flame kit, very cool.

Resto64 ·

na that will look sick on a KG , if mine was 12v i would chuck a kit on the 64

twoguns ·

damn i was going ot get this sorted for the dacb... thought it would be impressive. mow it seems i will jsut be like the 'others'... 🙁

XXX-1.8T ·

sounds cool i told my mechanic i wanted these but he said man beetles catch a lite without these things imagine how much ur chances increase when u do have it

But i say stuff it do it!!!

zac_smits ·

just need a bigger exhaust to keep the flames from the body :P:P

zac_smits ·

$130?? hell that's cheap...

could get some for the type 3 or the 97golf?

VWFREAK ·

As you can see from the pics the pipes are already after market and stick out a bout 50mm more than stock, so it should be enough clearance.

I've got a hot rod mate helping me install the system on wednesday, so I'll post pics as soon as she's up and running.

VWFREAK ·

2

twoguns ·

this is gonna be sweet for sure.

VWFREAK ·

I've just finnished welding the lugs into place and 70 of the wiring done.

Fingers crossed I should have the system up and running tonight or tomorrow.

Pics to follow.

robnjo ·

ColumBUS ·

pics pics pics! :alien

ColumBUS ·

went to the site, now i want a set for the beetle. would look awesome with the monza exhaust

VWFREAK ·

Here are some pics, there not the best as it's a bit hard to drive and take pics. I ended up taking pics with the use of a mirror. There not the best but they give you an idea.

Better pics to follow over the next couple of days. Still fine tuning the set up.

VWFREAK ·

2 The camera was a bit flat which didn't help.

MikeM ·

how do they work? Does it pump petrol into the exhaust or something?

theverybigtallman ·

some kits hook up a lead for a spark plug to go into the exhaust. a fuel injector goes down there also. you flick a dash mounted switch and hey presto, the poor bugger behind you is covered in charcoal. not something i would want to try though - plenty of stories of cars catching fire

Oppressa ·

It explains everything on that site mentioned further up ^
Uses a spark plug.

jonno-t3 ·

dude...i am thinkin of gettin one on the type 3...lol...what rev range are u putting it in when u fire?

jonno

twoguns ·

these units run on the unburnt fuel from you car only. no external fuel sorce. so they are suppose to be safer. so the flame is dependant on your engine and efficiency and etc. prolly good to get some way big carbs, run it rich and then go....

VWFREAK ·

Just finnished fine tuning the system, I now get 2-3 + foot flames. Very cool. Pics to follow tomorrow.

I only take the engine to about 3g's befor I flick the switch, It sound a little like a back fire just witha shit load more fire.

I'll also include pics of the instilation, to help anyone else planing to use the same system.

barls ·

my old bug use to put these out of the back with the twin barrel webber on down shift.

jonno-t3 ·

whats the bet u didnt have a flame kit on it neither barls😉

i like the sound of that bug....and i am liking the idea of my t3 cruisin round shootin flames....so getting one...

jonno

barls ·

yeah it didnt need one ether but unfortunatly its in the middle of a rebuild so im back with a stock 1600 and a 30 pic.

oval TOFU ·

man, that rocks!

VWFREAK ·

Here are some pics of the system setup and another flame shot. I still waiting for the right night to get better pics, I dosen't quite look the same during the day.

VWFREAK ·

Here's the coils I used, there VL high energy coils for extra bang.

VWFREAK ·

Here's the pipe set up, theres a fair bit of mucking around to get the grommets in the right place, but all up it took about 3hrs to do the whole system.

VWFREAK ·

As you can see the Fire box is easily hidden away under the back seat. I ended up putting the switch on the rear seat face, so as I can just reach around a flick away as I drive. That way it's also hidden .

VWFREAK ·

Here's a shot from the rear, as you can see they don't really stand out than much when painted matt black. I also plan on making a cover to hide it a little more.

VWFREAK ·

The coils don't really stand out all that much where I have them positioned.

squizy ·

Could you run the risk of the heat from the exhaust burning through the tube that diverts the fuel?

Squiz....

barls ·

no tubes used as it runs on unburnt fuel in the exaust

VWFREAK ·

Now I've got the goodies, I can't wait for some dick in a crummidore to tailgate me at the lights.

Chared crummidore.lol

barls ·

looks good mate i might have to get one eventually for the bug

VWFREAK ·

Just got my first crummidore on the way back from the video store. He pulled up beside me at the lights and asked what the hell was going on with my ride. I just laughed and said, Vee Dub power mate. He just shook his head and drove off.

barls ·

good on you now just to figure how to put one in and hide it from the old man

MikeM ·

Was he freaked out cuz you were on the wrong side of the car?

VWFREAK ·

barls wrote:good on you now just to figure how to put one in and hide it from the old man
Hey Barls, I only just told my wife tonight, she went off her head, "quote, how old are you". I just laughed, which pissed her off even more.

I've also found without running the car rich I can still get 2ft flames.

Good clean fun. or should I say smokey and hot.

[Edited on 15-11-2004 by Bone Collector]

barls ·

hey tim in the navy they say growing old is manditory, while growing up is optional. yeah but the old man does all the work on my bugs and it most likely would get ripped off the car

62deluxe ·

I might put one on the 59, Hmmm stoch 36hp should get a 2mm flame, that'll scare em! I love it. I want one.:P

Only to put it on his...LoL

And Bones, I can't wait to see it run in the dark....lol
SWeeeeeeT as...:thumb😎

VWFREAK ·

Here's a night shot as promised. I might richen up the mix a little more to see what she can really do.

VWFREAK ·

I actually did these in the garage with the roller door down about 6pm, the wife went off as to be exspected.lol

VWFREAK ·

another

VWFREAK ·

The pics are actually movie frames from my camera.

Kai.A. ·

upload the movie!?!

go on......

kai😎

pete wood ·

can you colour the flames like in 2 fast 2 furious 😀

Da Wiz ·

Oh yeah! That is schweeeeet!

So how long till we see other dubs with it on, and have they been outlawed in all states yet :P

Respect to the burnt 'crummidore' collector

VWFREAK ·

I'm unsure if you can coulour the flame, I think they used some type of gas or oxide, looks pretty cool but.

I wonder what the purist will think at the DOVW.lol

Oppressa ·

To be honest I thought people on this site would bitch at you for doing this sort of thing to a classic car LOL. Love it though 😀

VWFOOL ·

wow flames r better than i expected, wat size motor r u running? is this thru the stock exhaust?
well done...

VWFREAK ·

I'm actually only running a 1640cc with Kads and stock exhaust. Should be even better with the 1916, 44idf and the high flow system. Engine goes in after xmas.

More fire, cant wait.

VWFREAK ·

All the guys out there who know me, would have thought it was only a matter of time until I started putting more of my own style on my ride.

I'll be running the system very very rich at DOVW, so exspect some huge flames and lots of noise.lol, sould be good.

VWFREAK ·

You said it dave, hopefully I can make it.
