question about beetle

Hey everyone

I have just sent my 58 beetle to the panel beaters and when it comes back I want to get it licensed.

But it didn’t come out with any seat belts does this mean I need to put seatbelts in before I get it licensed. Or can I leave it exactly how it came from the factory. And if I don’t have to put seat belts in but I put things like gauges in so it isn’t original then does that mean if I start to change things I have to put seatbelts in.

Sorry if I have confused yas

Cheers

Any car built before Jan 1966 and not fitted with seatbelts is not required to do so. BUT if the car has at some stage in its life been fitted with seatbelts they must be operational and in good condition(no frays) This may varie stae to state but that is what is current in QLD.

you shouldnt need to.

mates 57 chev (very schmick one) does not require seat belts because of its age and it is completely legal. only. very dangerous at how quick it is when u are sliding around the back. hehe

I enquired earlier this year with the RTA (NSW) and got this reply:

- A vehicle built prior to 1965, wasn't required to be fitted with seat belts.

- A vehicle built from 1965, must be fitted with seat belts to the front outer seating positions.

- From that time things didn't change till 1969 (front and rear belts)

For your info......
