For an Oval ???

If your talking about globes for standard early Beetle/Kombi headlights, I have heard them refered to as Euro Base (not the same as H4's).

Yeh, for my oval..

I dont have any busted h4's floating around and dont wanna use my Artic Blue globes to test it out... does anyone know what fits?

Lams ·

I tried my H4s and they dont fit
the base is slightly different, but the plug is the same and they look like the same size

euro base hey?

Yes the base is different....
it used to be the standard GERMAN Base in the 60-70s-80s
on all European cars trucks and tractors....
I think it was called the P43t base...
The standard base these days has the 3 legs going outwards that locate the Globe [Bulb]...
the old German ones had a large round base... with a locating groove....
You used to be able to buy Quartz Halogen Bulbs to fit these years ago... but I doubt if they are still available...
Some VW shops might still keep them.....
A fellow in the US.. unsolders the Globe from the common variety and resolders to the early VW Base...
I believe they were still H4 with the European DIN Base....
They would have been in BMWs Mercedes Benz- Peugeots SAAB Volvos Renaults SKODAs Lloyd Hartnetts Fiats etc...

Are you looking for 6 or 12 volt bulbs?

The 12 volt halogen ones should be available from a decent auto electrician, the 6 volt halogen ones are a little harder to come by. I found a guy in Adelade that stocks them and will post them to you...I will try to find his web site.....

ahhhh, here it is: http://www.classicandvintagebulbs.com/index.html

The non-halogen style bulbs in both 6 and 12 volt should also be available from a good parts supplier or auto electrician.

PS: I'm running 6 volt halogen bulbs in my '63 - I have changed the wiring slightly so that the headlight switch triggers a relay (which take the full current of the headlights rather than the switch). The light from the headlights on my '63 is now on a par with the light from the headlights on my late model Jap company car! Don't let anyone tell you that 6 volt headlights are no good!
