How much will I be looking at for a KG that needs Restoration?
Something maybe without engine and good straight body with minimal rust ?
Just thinking of what are my options if I sell my dub ... looking into a new project car... something more personal :kiss

Something maybe without engine and good straight body with minimal rust ?
sorry theres no such thing as a KG like this .....
THEY ALL HAVE RUST HIDDEN
have not seen one yet with out rust
the problem is theres hidden panles or 3 sub sections within a KG shell dirt and moisture collect and rust converts the steel to crap and money
ikube ·
oh well... with rust then ... something not really presentable and needs a resto ? what money will I be looking to spend ?
vw54 ·
God crazy KG prices prob 5 to 10K .....
but as i said i would never attempt one even after restoring 30 plus cars..... they really are a restorers dream ( nightmare )
The rubbers alone are around $2500 and front n rear bumpers refurbished are around 2 to 3K FARK headlights are another 8 to 9 hundred then if your nmissing the trinkets FARK again here wont be much change from 30K although depends if you want to restor or modify and how good you want the resto.... if you want yr money back then gold plating is best u will always get something back
ikube ·
sad ...
cause I'm looking to sell my dub to fund a new project, and thinking, should I be driving Beetles again or something else....
hm... your info keeps me thinking.... Maybe an Early notch or beetle again 😉
vw54 ·
You carnt beat a Beetle only single skin and removable guards ...
More produced = cheaper parts
but hey dont let me stop you from getting yr dream ( nightmare) just be prepared to do 99% of the work your self....
ikube ·
I guess its too expensive for me... Heard a couple of ppl mentioning it earlier... maybe KG's ain't my game...
Notch or Bug maybe ?
Cheers~!

Yeah Dave's right. Between 5-10k will get you one. I think there's one going for around 7k at the moment. The cost of the resto depends on what type of resto you do....full pan off or cover up, get it on the the road, and then work your way through it.
The Ghia above has been around for a while. It's a good buy if you can get it for a price you're happy with.
I did my KG thing...and happy I did. Would love to do it again one day.

Sweet car, a KG is on my list for sure.:thumb

I want something like Sprintstars Black KG ....... and perhaps work my way through ?
Something original in style and Lowered... and good interior.... probably leather or see whats available then, well I'm looking to sell my car first, as long as someone take it off my hands I can start thinking of the New project thingy ...
Will find a job to get my dream on the road if possible.

Ikube,
Check out this link first before you buy from this seller...and don't let anyone talk you out of a Ghia, they are not all crap as Dave said...like anything, you get what you pay for.
Vintage VeeDubs are good for resto parts!
The thing with KG's is that the seams are lead wiped - which means that if you take it to a repairer that doesn't do this type of trade, you are going to end up with a KG full of bog. To do it properly takes a lot of wiping, filing, wiping, filing, sanding yada yada yada. I reckon spend a little more [maybe up to $15k]. At least that way you will get one that has had at least a restoration of some type - also best get one where at least someone knows the history of the car.

oh dear, is this really what I should be looking at ? Getting a Ghia ? My budget is pretty much tight, (if I can sucessfully sell my current ride at the listing price) Sprintstar's Ghia is very tempting, that makes me wana sell mine and get that! But I guess by the time I can pick that up, that'd be gone. I thought Ghia Resto would be similar to a Beetle, only the parts are expensive... but turn out to be not just the parts, and also the labour for the resto... Parts I can justify my budget and look to suit what I can afford, and perhaps work my way through and earn the acessories later on...
What should I do ? Sell my ride and start a new project bug or work harder for a Ghia ?

I was thinking of:
$3500 paint job, $1500 for interior and perhaps just a normal 1600 for the time? Just getting it on the road reliably drivable, then work my way through a set of Sprint Stars and so on... is that possible? Sounds like its not after reading all these posts...
