well, as you may know, Brisbane got an absolute drenching over the last week, the first good rain in years. Anyway, i went to check on old bertie this morning, and in the footwell of the rear right seat is about 2 inches of water with the battery sitting right in it.:cry

how shitty. i have to go to work now, so i'll have to take care of it later, but any suggestions as to the best way to dry my beetle would be appreciated.

Thank-you
The owner of a waterlogged beetle.

bertie... i know how you feel 馃檨
i had the same problem last year due to my stupid landlady making me park on the grass instead of in my garage, so now ive got rust 馃檨

towels, and a hair dryer.

Turn it upside down and use it as a boat !

Get a large nail and puncture the floor in the lowest point from the inside. You can seal this up again with floor sealer or non-acidic curing silicone later. Let all the water drain.

Mop everything up. Then get your hair dryer out. Dry every bit of metal you possible can. And don't leave anything damp, like carpet in the car.

Check the battery hasn't leaked and try and figure out where the water came from. Where is the real leak? Window or windscreen seals are usual culprits.

If you do this asap and don't let any metal stay wet or get even abit rusty you should be ok. Then as soon as you can, give the whole car a proper dose of fish oil (heater ducts are the key area). This should stand you in good stead for about 12 months.

Yep - I had the same problem over the last week ... damn sunroof :cussing

I used a car washing sponge to soak up the water until there were no puddles left, I then removed the rubber mat (moisture gets caught under the rubber mats) and left the car open in the sun. All dry now. Thankfully all the water was on the passenger side of the car so I didn't have to involve the battery. In your situation - remove the battery to allow the floor under it to dry. Remove any wet carpet/mats and make sure that they are completely dry before replacing them...and good luck in finding the leak.

cheers people. well, i used a cup to get all of it out. didn't take too long, then i used a towel to soak up the remainder. i will use a hairdryer too, and then oil her up. i cut all the wet carpet out too, which was ok by me, cuz the carpet is crap anyhow. at least it gave me an opportunity to check out the pan. aint no rust to be seen, so thats good. i have'nt been able to pinpoint the leak point, but the car was at an angle facing up the driveway and it was under a shade-sail, and all the water was running off the sail and straight onto the car, so it was like having a firehose on it almost - any car would have leaked with that hitting it.

As above but get a small fan heater and leave it aimed at the wetpatch over night. Moitchell
