splittychick ·

I get a bit sh**ty if a kombi doesn't wave coz 99% of the time they do so when one doesn't it throws me a little.I find that unless they're an enthusiast most other types of dubs don't wave at the kombi.:o

t2 ·

about the same as if i get no response to a post LOL
no its alittle annoying, although my girfriend has owned a bug for 14 years and before we meet she didnt know about the wave ,so now she knows its been 5 years and if she dont get a wave LOOKOUT,well i have to hear about how slack they were

jo_tas ·

Yeah i hate it.. out of every 10 waves i give i get maybe one person wave back.. humph!

Although the other day i was driving along and a guy driving a kombi gave me a big peace sign out the window! :bounce

ian.mezz ·

we're at newcastle and all the kombi drivers wave back or wave crazy before. But the new kombi's don't wave at all. Even beetles wave at me when I am in my beetle.

surfchickhangten ·

oh gotta love that. thats worth ten waves😎

t2 ·

i keep waving and the bastards dont wave back at all
could have something to do with the corrolla im sitting in

surfchickhangten ·

i'll have to try the peace sign jo tas

eirecooled ·

I agree that some of them are just rude, they could at least acknowledge you. Anyone that doesn't should be made to drive a sigma wagon for a week that would teach them:cussing

kroozzn63 ·

yeh i know the feeling
sometimes i think maybe there dreaming of what they want to do to there kombi next and are to busy consentrating on that and the road .BUT WHEN YOU WAVE AND THEN THEY SEE YOU AND STILL IGNORE YOU THEN YOU WANT TO PUNCH THEM IN THE HEAD ,YES WITH GREAT FORCE AND ANGER .
sorry got a bit carried away "beware the patient man"

Special Air Service ·

Its often the ones you dont expect to wave are the ones that love a good wave

Bizarre ·

"But the new kombi's don't wave at all."

I use to have a beetle and waves all round. And is was a super beetle to boot.

At the moment i have a 82 kombi (is that a new kombi??) and i get jack shit replies. Bugs dont look. Dont think i am cool enough for bays.

:jesus

kara&herkombi ·

Yeah i do get very annoyed when people dont wave back!!

You feel pretty stupid when you wave to someone and they just ignore you..

i pass this one kombi on the highway almost every thursday on the way to uni and the man used to snob me... that was until i started doing the massive wave to him.. now he waves hehe

There are many different types of VW owners....
Those who just "drive" them.
Those who "love & are enthusists"
& Those who just look at you (when you wave at them) & think your a weirdo
Most ppl wave to me.....a very small percentage don't

silver ·

I gave up on the new ones, I only wave at Aircooled now, and they nearly always wave back

vwtyp2 ·

there's a difference between VW owners, and VW drivers.
Most of the people on the forum drive VW's by choice, and these are the type of VW drivers who will wave to others.
Then there are the unfortunate people who own a VW out of not having a choice.
they eventually learn to love their VW, and become VW drivers, and wave along with the rest of us. 🙂😀🙂😀

Dave_Bugz ·

I always get waves in the beetle. There is an old woman in queenscliff where I work, and she drives an older model (I got a 72 super). She got me into the waveing.

Canni. ·

I haven't had many people wave back... as other people have said...some people just drive their veedubs and aren't really enthusiasts... maybe if we keep waving though they'll get it 🙂

Is your super cream coloured??
I sometimes see a super driving to and from geelong, through Leopold, would that be you??
I'll be sure to wave next time, I wont be in a vee dub but :cussing

sneak_e ·

I've only ever driven a VW twice before. Borrowed a bay camper from a mate on both occasions. I'm driving around Perth and all these other bloody Kombi drivers are frantically waving at me....and I'm thinking "what!!! Is something on fire?"...then it strikes me that the camaraderie is HUGE with dubbers....I even had an old guy in a single cab bay rev at me in his old girl and dump it from the lights - he raced off in a cloud of clutch-dust and blue smoke 🙂 Cracked me up!!! Ever since that day I'm now on the lookout for my first VW 🙂

Robo ·

They don't deserve to own a Volksie!
Rob...😎

buzzbug ·

they should be stopped.
forced to hand over their keys and given a toyota corolla instead of a vw.

zac_smits ·

maybe they are concentrating on traffic and trying not to cause accidents :P:P

mahahaha.

i'll wave at any vw most of the time...

Spook ·

This has come up before & I'll reply the same as before.

The wave is predominately an air cooled kombi thing & the reasoning is simple.

95% of people who drive a split or bay kombi do so because that is what they WANT to drive. Not because this is what daddy bought them or that it was the cheapest vehicle in the paper. T1 & t2 owners are like minded, & almost always give you the wave. (This logic also applies to buggies & bajas) T3 owners are a fickle lot, they may or may not give you a wave. T4 - forget it!

With the beetle however the percentage of desired ownership would drop.
Many people own a beetle because they are a cheap, reliable mode of transport. Not necessarily because they have a thing for beetles. So you may or may not get a wave out of them.

To upset the NB owners (yet again), most people buy the new beetles because they are 'chic', and want sweet FA to do with the heritage.

You want to wave to all of them, go ahead. But don't lose sleep over someone not waving back. As has been said before, they just may be a VW owner as opposed to a VW nut..........😎

I guess that you won't be waving to me then hey ?

I think that it is funny when people say that watercooled VW owners don't wave ..... I ALWAYS wave and in fact I have managed to get myself a nice little convoy of watercooled VW drivers on the way to work each morning and we always wave to each other.

I waved to an owner of an aircooled bug one day, he even had the same club sticker on his window that I do and he stuck his nose in the air !!!!

but that's coz you drive a newbie.... your not cool enough to drive an oldie... :vader

Che Castro ·

Yeah i think about 2/3 of bug owners wave back at me. I always wave at bays, splits and the later aircooleds. about 1/2 of kombis wave back

winerot ·

when im on the h/way here on nth coast i wave
at kombi's & beetles all the time, have friends in
kombi sometimes & are surprised at how many
do wave for no reason, a bit light the old charger
commercial yrs ago but unless your a vw owner
or passenger you will never know.

i love the feeling of a wave its a commraderie
second to none.

blutopless2 ·

hahahaha... ooooooooooooooo i'm sooooooooo scared... would you like a coffee??? :P:P

buzzbug ·

BACKPACKERS IN F*#KING KOMBIS.

I don't know why i waste my time waving to Kombi campers, saying that i have a few mates that do own them so don't go getting narky at me for saying that.

Living somewhere where the princes H'way is that main road attracks alot of backpackers and they don't bloody wave.

so i have stopped waving to campers for this reason, if you happen to travel through nowra in your camper and you see my bright yellow bug, give me a wave as i will always recipricate.

mscabrio ·

blutopless2 wrote:hahahaha... ooooooooooooooo i'm sooooooooo scared... would you like a coffee??? :P:P
Do you actually know me ??????

I don't drink coffee ..... and to quote the book you are referring to ...... it was actually "would you like a cup of tea"

Get it right !

VWFREAK ·

I've found only guys driveing the same type of ride wave to each other. I just wave to every VW even when I'm driving the wifes ford.

If they don't wave back, f%#k'em

penguin ·

yeah

but I have to admit to confusing people when I wave at them from a subaru 🙂

MickH ·

I'll wave to anyone in any car:thumb
maybe some of you folks in the big smoke just arn't laid back enough sometimes?? I've had people from all walks wave back....those who don't wave back mightn't feel like it.Who cares????:duh:alien

ancientbugger ·

I know all buggy owners wave and that a lot of them also scream and shout greetings at each other and that when we had our kombi all kombi owners also waved but I never felt so lost and alone as when we sold our kombi and bought a range rover, no kombis ever waved even though I waved to them half heartedly (missing my bus). You could read on their faces 'who's he thinking he's waving at!'

Da Wiz ·

Yeah I wave from the front seat of a camry - and often i just get weird looks, but it gives my mates something to laugh at ...

Aaaaaah to tdrive a kombi again - not long now 😀

baybuscamperkid ·

i dont get buggers who dont wave. Im driving a FORD LASER ( :repuke ) at the moment and i have to control myself not to wave at dubbers by remembering what i am driving.

adnesiac ·

ive had a bug, type 3, splitty and now a bay....i find the interacial vw wave isnt too common, except when i had the splitty...mainly because it was soo god damn good looking!

Starbug ·

i find that i get more waves from type 3 drivers than kombi drivers (im in a 68 bug) which is cool seeing that theres heaps less type 3s on the road.
i used to get a bit upset when a guy from my work who has a super didnt wave back to me, but after a few waves he got the gist.
and i only get waves from new beetles that live around my area, or on the sunny coast.

and apologies in advance if you see a sad looking red bug in brisbane but its owner doesnt stick their hand out to wave... my window winding mechanism is broken so i can wind down my window to wave 🙁 if you look closer to the steering wheel you will see a hand waving frantically!!!

surfchickhangten ·

yeah well i guess there are lots of different reasons.but what happen to just waving to someone to say hey guys have a great day.
Do we have to have a reason to say hello or wave to someone these days. each to their own i guesss.

live each day as if it were your last.:thumb

ancientbugger ·

I remember as a kid my dad had to stop waving at other beetles as there was just too many of them . Something else my dad was in the British control commision after the war when the only people allowed VWs were the British and we have some brilliant photos of him with his german driver who actually wore 'lederhosen'.
