fresh chrome & paint - sunnies advised
as you can see the weather was very ordinary and we had a cool sea breeze roll in later and had to put up with torrential sunshine all day. 😀

Had a great day today (think my dog did too he fell asleep as soon as we were heading back home), was really glad to finally meet you guys! picked up some missing parts for my bug too... here's my photo contribution!

some of the cars:

23 WINDOWS!!

what are the differences between these 2 cars... besides the mega price difference?

i dont see any =)

Mikeaus ·

Nice to meet you too

Hi all,

Hope you all enjoyed the day! Apart from the sunburn I thought it was good (but I would, because I helped organise it!).

Fantastic turn out of vehicles this year with over 140 cars given registeration stickers at the front gate (and a few more not given stickers, but in the swap area). Unfortunatly a number of vehicles owners didn't bother to register their cars with us...some of these same people could have taken home a trophy but as we didn't know who owned the car they were scratched from the race...sad really 🙁

Some big changes from last year - a massive increase in numbers from the type III crowd...almost overflowed the area we had set aside!
Also, the off-road vehicles - must have been twice as many Bajas and Buggies this year as there were last year.
For the last three years we have not had a runner up in the Karmann Ghia catagory as there has only been one car entered, this year there was 6 (or was that 7?) KG's entered - fantastic to see!
Where have all the Kombis gone? We had a massive turn-out of Kombis last year (particularly split screen Kombis), this year about half as many...:duh:
Many of the familiar faces were missing this year...don't get me wrong, I love to see new people coming into our hobby, but I missed catching up with a few of the 'oldies'

Anyway, these were just my observatons from the day, generally I thought that both the quality and quantity of vehicles this year was awsome.

Thanks to everyone that came along today, and congrats to those who either took home a trophy or won a prize in the raffle (I didn't win either 🙁 ). As for the Green Ticket Man..... 😀

I would love to hear your thoughts, good or bad about the show - this will help us to make it even better next year.... over to you!

R 🙂

Hi Guys,
Well I guess I was the green ticket man?!? not much I could do, as they say it's the luck of the draw!!!:P Thanks for the support guys, I too had a great day.

P.S Check out our club website that Ross has very kindly and quickly updated with all the show details, even if you weren't there after you read the story it will feel like you were.

Bungawatta ·

It was a great day for me to finally join in and meet the people from this forum. It was nice to see you all!!!

I bet not many people remember my name or my delux microbus, but those who noticed my Japanese single tooth wooden footware (called "GE-TA"), surely you all remember me being there. (^^)/

Last year to the Show I drove our Land Cruiser but this year after all those years of searching (since I migrated here in 1994!) I finally got my own bus and drove it to the Show. It was ecstatic.

I'll be around next year, too, with my bus of course. :bounce:bounce

Robo ·

Hey I just wanna know how ya drive in those things?
Rob...😎

robnjo ·

hey Bungawatta, those were very kool thongs mate, but which was your bus?

ByronBug ·

:sandrine
Hey Bungawatta...very nice to meet you at the show.
Your shoes were the topic of conversation there all day.
Must be in the balance as I can't see myself wearing them
I would fall.
Was very nice to see you came, you will have to wear those shoes at the next VW event so we could all recogize you again....
Thanks for making the effort to meet some of us.
Happy VW-ing
Judy (Byronbug) 😉

Midlife crisis ·

Bungawatta and Lam, it was nice meeting you both.

Alex, your dog is gorgeous and I can understand her falling asleep on the way home as I wanted to do the same thing.

Hopefully you will be able to come to a few more events that are organized locally. Keep an eye out in the Club Chat section or think of coming to the Drive In night that is advertised in this section and meet more of us.

Kathy

Lams ·

I think he bought Roy's delux microbus.

Bungawatta ·

Thanks a million for kind comments, everyone. (^^)/

Rob, I have a pair of "driving thongs" in my bus. It's pretty hard to press down the clutch pedal properly with my GETA, as you imagined.

robnjo, my bus picture is at http://home.ozconnect.net/yamazaki/VW/71delux-microbus.jpg
I got it though this forum and was proud that it was the only Delux Microbus at the Show that has got chrome trimming around its body. (^^)v

I'll be looking forward to coming to more of the off-line get-togethers of this forum with my bus.
