preacherman ·

This is a post directed to those of you who go off-road either on buggies or horses.

The Queensland Government is bringing new legislation that will shut out horse-riders, off-rood users form huge chunks of land in the State under pressure from the Greenies and some environmentalists.

If you thought you had to drive some way to use your buggy if you do not check this legislation you will find that you are totally shut out of areas that have been used for generations as huge areas are turned into National Parks.

No one opposes the forming of National Parks and protecting the environment but this move is both illformed and is just another extremist move that has bowed to the opinions of a minority.

A HUGE RALLY is being organised for the 23 rd November at Parliament House in Brisbane.

QLD Buggy drivers please be there

oh no. i've been watching this shit in the US and hoped it would never happen here. Then again i sort of always knew i was gonna happen. Stuff like this just pisses me off. I've seen bushwalkers leave more rubbish and do more damage in some areas and offroaders. If this gets like it is in the US i'm either going inland or i'm going to Mexico...

Andy42 ·

So do you have any more info or a web link to show the proposed areas that they are looking at shutting of.

preacherman ·

The area of land they want to decalre National Park in Brisbane is huge. It is virtually all of crown land in the state.

If this means anything to those of you in Queensland who enjoy ging of-road then I suggest that you get to the rally. Hundreds of people are taking their horses and floats and a number of off-road organisations are going to be there.

From the State and government that intorduced the cane- toad this environment move is skin deep. Ministers have been met with individually and strong interest groups have tried in vain to get some common sense to prevail.

Can you imagine the carnage caused by children forced to use their ponies and horses on the roads? What off the billion dollar industries that support and rely on the custom of those who use use tracks.

Some off these tracks have been used for gnerations and now they will all be shut off with severe fines.

penguin ·

is this inclusive of things like mountain bikes??? or just cars?

Andy42 ·

I am curious to see if they want to shut them of totally or will decided to allow use but at a price per day or something simmilar to access some of the tracks. And of course so they rape more money from us.

preacherman ·

It is a ban on usage on tracks. I have contacted the Australian Endurance Riders Assoc to provide details of areas and restrictions and will post it when i get it.

ratty 63 ·

...do we know the time and start location of the rally - will make the effort to be at this one....

R 🙁

Boozer ·

i'm going to this. but more details are needed.

type1ute ·

and to enforce these fines, means ridiculous number of police, i no up here they would have no chance unless they used helicopters and stuff. the government is stupid

true. but even so it will still affect a lot of people. IF it happens.

Hi All

I just got the huge list of the areas which will be turned into National Park next year and within a few years it will be further extended.

The list is so enormous I canot post it on AVD so anyone interested please email me and I will post the complete lists of the areas. Just for a taste I post a few general details. All this has been done with very little to no consultation with interest groups who actually use these areas recreationally.

"The Beattie Government will convert another 195,000 ha of land to National Parks, Conservation Parks and other Protected Area tenures as part of its commitment to implement the South East Queensland Forests Agreement.

Environment Minister Desley Boyle said that, once gazetted, new National Parks and Conservation Parks would be created near Springbrook, Nerang, Logan, Tamborine, Helidon, Dayboro, Woodford, Conondale, Dularcha, Maleny, Mapleton, Kenilworth, Jimna, Gympie, Noosa, Bania and Perry."

"...Ms Boyle said horse riding would also continue for nine years in other areas such as Mapleton, Kenilworth, and Noosa.
“These areas will be dedicated National Park (recovery) tenure to allow for horse riding continuing for nine years before being converted to national park tenure,” Ms Boyle said."

Some areas will immeadiately become unusable other areas, in the minority will be unusable in 9 years leaving a few paltry areas for use. What chance that off-roaders will get much of a look-in?

pod ·

this has happened to an extent in NSW allready ,some areas we can use by getting keys from the authorities and having to do a bit of rubbish cleanup but alas it will all be closed off sooner or later:cussing

This is very sad to hear and I would hate to pass on the bad news but they have already begun closing sections of Mt Tamborine for Conservation Areas😠, as a four wheel driver and a heavily involved mountain biker it appears the only way we will be able to enjoy Australia the way we want to is to access the privately owned facilities but even these are getting hard to find due to public liability issues. It will be a sad day for all if the legislation is passed!

It's about time the bush was left to its own devices. I have friends who bushwalk (and I do the occasional short hike).

They'll definitely like this news.

Environmentalism is not a minority. If it were, Howard wouldn't even try to pretend he cared about environmental issues.

Andrew

Andy42 ·

I wondered how long it would take some damn tree hugger to start. I wonder if you have heard of the term Sustainable or controled access. But I guess you only walk everywhere and only ever use recycled paper :blah:blah:blah With a bit of luck the Environmentalists will be there so we can see if they have anything more then words and their boring chanting songs.

preacherman ·

I am a passionate environmentalist. I do believe however those of us who want access to these areas do not want the right to go anywhere and just tear up the landscape. I believe that it is possible to have those tracks used which have been defined over the past decades.

Access to the parks does not mean desiring the right to destroy but a right to access for various users. There may be areas of particular interest and significance and these will be no go...that's fine.

I find that these gestures by government are hastily done as lip service to environmentalists so that they can say as they near election time 'hey I'm green, I care for the environment'. These are the very people who have decimated the old growth forests!!

There are many kinds of 'users' of public spaces. Sure some need more regulation than others but lets not put a total ban on everyone.

helterskelter400 ·

info info info...

who's it being organised by, does it have a web site, any other details thanks.

i put it up on a dirtbike forum and am being bombarded by qu.s

jonnyb ·

total ban will by right have to deny buswalker access as well,

Agree!

and Tim any State Forest.

OK
One protest was held last week in Cairns, which is the home seat of the Minister of Environment...Desley Doyle. She has not been upfront with the impact of this legislation and has treated all parties with contempt and falsehood EXCEPT the environment players. She has been presented with reports and representation from Endurance Riders that they just want access to ESTABLISHED and EXISTING tracks and scientific findings to show that there is no evidence of a -ive detriment to the environment from horse droppings etc. ( any introduced grasses would be choked by the lantanas anyway). She Just goes thru the motions of meeting with interest groups and then misrepresents or hides the true impact of the cabinet legislation. Basically the Beattie government has made it's mind up after meeting with environmentalists only!!

There is no website per se of those organising. There are a number of interest groups that are marshalling their memberships for the rally in Brisbane as in Cairns.

It must be said this legislation applies to MOUNTAIN BIKES, HORSE RIDERS, 4WD, PEOPLE TAKING THEIR DOG FOR WALKS ETC ETC.

BTW the Nationals are against this legislation!!

GET TO THE RALLY AS YOU WILL ONLY GET ONE SHOT AT THIS....A POOR TURNOUT MEANS THE GOVT HAS WON MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT THIS.
