Thought that the tabs on the back would line up with the holes on the bonnet. Put the tabs from the badge through your backing plate, then through bonnet and twist/bend to hold badge in place
If you don't have the holes then they have been filled with bog/etc or painted over. I am not sure if your chrome hood strip is right,( No visual you see... besides, its not a thing that I know either) but from memory your strip shouldn't overlap your badge, unlike the early 50's ones.
Take a look at DOVW, unless you want it done by then in which case,
HELP ANYONE!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought only delux models had them, so your bonnet might not have the holes for the badge

Most Beetles sold in Australia were the Deluxe version ....
You could have a non original bonnet on Your car...
Volkswagen used to cover up things like the rear of the badge with a play dough type substance that stayed flexible and never went hard... it was light blue-grey colour...

mines missing one too...I'm guessing it has a new bonnet... to put one on you need a shorter chrome strip and need to put some holes in for the tabs on the badge.

dont they push into plastic grommet things like all the rest of the trim😉

my 61 has holes for it to push through, was glued on with areldite🙁 but will go back on better

Its the early badge the colourful one Frenzix you are right im thinking i need shorter chrome strip which the top of the badge slids in and then some new holes for the rear of the badge thats what i think anyway.Wish me luck because i need it on my ride asap. Also does anyone know the best way to stick a empi gtv badge to the car.peace...

It could be bluetack but bluetack wasn't around in 1960....
unless it was invented at Volkswagenwerk and kept a secret for all these years.... 🙂🙂
actually its very much like blue tack....
even silicone etc will keep it on... I had a badge on a car a few years ago held on by bluetack... never came off...
and if someone uses a screwdriver to steal it... it will come straight off without damage to Your car....
EMPI GTV badge = Bluetack.... its great.... Lee
the chrome strip just goes over the aluminium backing part of the badge which was in 2 parts...

i've got the chrome strip in good nick
you will need to drill 2 small holes to put the flaps in, then you just fold them in under the badge.
just sold both style badges

Looks Bloody Beautiful.....
Maybe I should put one on My 68 Beetle....
with a wide chrome strip...??
After accidently bending My bonnet strip many years ago, I asked My Son to braze up the holes for for it....
and He brazed up ALL the holes for ALL the chrome strips??
I now have two sets of thin chrome but the wider chrome does look better.... as the thin ones are actually polished aluminium....

which badge is right for a 1960 beetle? the colourful one or black/red/blue one?
