I am thinking of getting a postie bike to ride to work on, now that i live closer to twon.
So who out there owns one, or has owned one and can give me some advice on how they go scooting around town.
cheers :thumb

sax ·
Unless you get one for free, don't bother.
Absolute rubbish is all I can say.
MikeM ·
You expect people to admit they own a postie bike :duh
kombi_kid ·
mmmmmmmmm i did there alot of fun for a beginner rider like myself unless ya get carried away like me and ride it around at 3am in the morning with a mid range blood alcohol level and the police start chasing u!!! trust me u cant go faster then 70km/h i tried it!!!! ahahhahahahahahahahahaaha
cut a long story short they use shit all fuel (costs about $3.50 to fill up and lasts ages) but if ya need to to go on a big highway etc absolute rubbish!!
try and by one thats later then 90 model and check that it doesnt have any rattles in the gearbox and kicks over first time! cause honda parts are very expensive !! (was quoted $700 for a rebuilt gearbox!)
cheers

If there's a VW forum then there's a postie bike forum. And here it is:
Everything you want to know about CT110/90s. Have fun mate.
zac_smits ·
umm...shouldn't this come under...
"you know you're a redneck when...."
Spook ·
If I did have one I wouldn't own up...........😀
buzzbug ·
well zac i was only buying one to get to my banjo lesson.
zac_smits ·
mahahaha
touché
Secoh ·
I have one I got off a mate's farm. I jacked it up and put dirt tyres on it and take it bush riding and camping and stuff.
They are great fun, piss easy to ride, and are absolutely unkillable, and require bugger all maintenance.
a mate got a CT90 scooter for $100 off ebay and we go hooning about the place on them. loads of fun and can't go wrong. They need a battery to run so if you get one not running and no battery then thats probably why.
Oh, and to all the detractors, it is highly amusing that volkswagen owners are embarrased by the thought of owning a postie bike. :P

does anyone know if you can leagly put monkey hanger handle bars on them?
I want to make an anti-harley.
theverybigtallman ·
i had one. piss easy to ride, centrifugal clutch, easy on fuel, top speed about 50-60km/h, won't wheelstand on the back wheel (i tried), good fun, but the motor is a bit sick and the gearbox is on the way out
kombi_kid ·
just get one u know u want to and be proud to ride it!!!
:party
cheers
rhys
theverybigtallman ·
around town one of those would be perfect. monkey handles would make it interesting to ride though
Secoh ·
They can be mono'ed, I managed to do it. Man it was hard to keep stable and after a few crashes I gave up hehe
kombi_kid ·
only prob with monkey hangs would be to get the throttle system to work either through the handle bar grip like normal or like a push bike gear changer :P:P
cheers

buzzbug ·
things to consider, thanks rhys
lee.
Secoh ·
pfft. longer throttle and brake cables same as any other chopper bike. no big deal at all.
buzzbug ·
Here we go.
Postie mono

Oh dear!
first and last words,
just
Oh dear !
penguin ·
I can just picture sidewards racks on the back of a kombi/square with a couple of these things strapped there in place of spare wheels or jerrycans of petrol
Oh dear. Its just going to end in tears I can see it coming!!
buzzbug ·
i was thinking about a little tailer for it to tow behind the bug,
paint the bike bright yellow too, have to get around nambucca in 2006 somehow.
zac_smits ·
haha okay then...
why don't you just go and ask aussie post if they wanna sell you one??
either that..or..ahh...rob the postie?
zac
Dannyboy ·
There is a place you can by them ex post. Do a search.
LOL I had one , a 110 and used it everyday for 4 years to get to work when i was in the UK. I'd do about 30k a day back and forth and it was great , bombed along great.
My Dad , bless him made these racks on the back , big box and also sorted some heated handle bar grips for it:P
Talk about looking like knob in my bright yellow waterproofs and riding this thing. Saying that though it never let me down , cost me nothing to run and i got there far quicker than being in a car , grinding the pegs all the way!!!!.
Anyone wanted a race on a Sat morning i'd ditch the postie bike and jump on my Suzuki GSXR 1260 and show them what a wheelspin at 120clicks looks like.
Buy a good one and you'll never look back , for work theyre tops
Dan😉
buzzbug ·
a pickles auctioins they have a heap.
i have been looking at them all day.
just have to run it by the other half.
Dannyboy ·
With the money you save you'd be bringing flowers home once a week for her and a few $$$ for your dub!
Can't lose
dan😉
buzzbug ·
i will try that one with her.
Secoh ·
in NSW its the airport auctions for them, once a month I think. also, ebay is full of them usually. around $500 for a good unregistered or very old one, and between $900 and $1200 for a late model excellent one with rego. any more than that and youre being robbed. 🙂
buzzbug ·
now thats the advice i need,
cheers secoh

the only scary thing about these babies, is that you dont have much power to avod situations. i ve been riding for many years, and one thing i have found is that in city traffic (or all traffic really), you wanna have as many options to stay alive as possible, and the ability to be zippy is one of em.
if youre dead seat on a postie bike them make sure you leave room for errors (usually the dumb ass bus driver or ignorant commuter).
id be more inclined to go for a small 250 like a cb or something else.
bieks ive used were a virago, cbr600, vfr800, xvs1100, and 955ist
i found the best commuter bike was my old harley sporster with straght cut exhausts. this baby jsut parted traffic, and never once did i have a hassle. in fact i used to lead a bike train along victoria rd each morning, as i would jsut blat the throttle, all the cars would move ad then me and the 5 bikes following would lane split. always found it funny how the last place was a jostle as the cars would start to get sick of them all coming thru and close racks... 😀
heres a pic of it.
Resto64 ·
i am a postie and they are not a bad bike for just putting around ,cheap on fuel
great for burn outs!!!!!!!!!
Secoh ·
yeah I wouldn't want to ride a postie bike more than around your local area.
Always assume all other motorists are complete morons and are out to get you.
My ducati was great in traffic too, Geez I miss it. I might buy a harley just so I can say I owned one. I got a ride of a mate's electraglide. Now I know why harley riders never wave (they'll fall off if they let go 😀😀😀)
Oh, and if they nod or wave at jap bikes it voids the warranty :P
zac_smits ·
hahah resto i wanna see my postie doing that!!!!
Alex Holzl ·
HHAHAHHAHAHA This guy who is renting space off us is doin race bike setup and he got a postie and just gettin it regod then hes gonna pull it down and put a cam big bore kit bigger valves the lot and better suspention and go race it!!! lol If ya wanna do urs up he RJPracing 0414 971 243, he also does all motor cross bike and road race bikes
buzzbug ·
thats sweet,
there is a site that has modified postie bikes on it, there is one that has, what looks like a blow off valve on it.
Secoh ·
there's an annual dirt track race for them even! it's on postiebikes.com or whatever that sitre was.
buzzbug ·
thats the site with the done up one.
buzzbug ·
here we go
Secoh ·
I learnt that if you try and sit on the parcel rack to lean right forward for full speed, it gets the death-wobbles real bad at 60kph. :duh
twoguns ·
that last pick... sheesh the disc is that big you would be guaranteed a stoppie at the lights.
all you need now is the NOS bottle. 😉
buzzbug ·
NOS and a turbo,
now we're talking. 🙂🙂🙂
koolkarmakombi ·
I used to ride one mustering in the flinders ranges- what an awesome little bike, go all day, used much less fuel and you could chuck a kelpie on the back!
Good cheap commuter, dont ride it like a wr400 or it will break.... Jump pretty well though!
Upgraded brakes good but the disc about is a break
