Who owns the beetle in the Gold Coast smash

https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/31827/who-owns-the-beetle-in-the-gold-coast-smash

Stanley ·

Just watching the news and there was a shot of an early model light green beetle with a roof rack, and all the back stoved in after 12 cars were smashed into by a truck while on a bridge.....:cry

Hope it was no one we all know.

Either way thats bad news....hope is all well with the occupants

penguin ·

Agreed,
hope who ever it is is fine.
Any news ??

robnjo ·

I just so a news update....hope their ok :jesus

ByronBug ·

:sandrine
I heard that on the news at work....
That was near Rob's place....
But he owns Pidge (blue bug)
Hope they were all safe.
Radio said the road was closed & traffic diverted.
Must of been a mess up there.
Judy

robnjo ·

.....no one hurt,Kool. Looked like a nice bug, its funny that not all vw you see around go to VW shows...
had a very nice vintage rack on the one in the crash

robnjo ·

Canni. ·

ouch *shields eyes* poor bug...hope its owners are okay..

Wag67 ·

I feel for the beetle owner, I know from experience what it feels like to have your beetle wrecked by someone else! (I was more worried about my bug then myself)

Also did you notice there was a newish Golf in the same crash!!!

robnjo ·

sorry, Golfs don't count :P

ByronBug ·

oh what a shame.....:o
Hope he/she was insured
Judy

Stanley ·

Watched the full report at 6 pm and they only showed the golf.

Damn shame

BanoraBus ·

could of been worse if they were in a plastic water cooled disposable import

Dasdubber ·

Ouch...certainly a good case of whiplash with the good old lowback seats! I got lightly tapped in the rear in my old bug and it pushed my head back pretty hard - that looks like it would have hurt. At least the roofrack looks undamaged (trying to find the positives)

:cussing

Starbug ·

hmmm... if my eyes do not decieve me, then that beetle lives (or now used to live) 3 streets up from me. white sides and apple green paint. best looking beetle in paddington.

poor thing 🙁 lucky no-one was hurt

zac_smits ·

it was a damn nice beetle...

shame about the color though....

zac

ratty 63 ·

hmmm, I've seen that car around the Gold Coast before...not sure who owns it...

Damn Shame. 🙁

..should have thought before posting that last comment.

I think (its a bit hard to tell from the photo) that the bug used to belong to one of our club members - he had sold it a couple of months ago...what day did this happen? I only saw that car on the highway at Worongary early last week (I think)....

Still a damn shame.

R 🙁

bugboymatt ·

Happened yesterday morning i believe. Heared it on the radio.

MUD BASHING ANYONE ?? ·

Its in saterdays paper theres a photo looking over a golf on its side at the bug

i actually love my plastic watercooled disposable import and would have been severely injured if i WEREN'T in one. I had a head on in 2001 and that import fantastic 'f*****n' plastic saved alot of injurys, if not my life.
Sorry but im sick and tired of the whole 'water versus air' subject coming up for no reason at all. All that was said was their was a newish golf involved too. Not much simpathy to them is there people...why....has it got something to do with no one accepting watercooled as a VW :blah:blah:blah:blah:blah:blah:blah:blah:blah:blah:blah

sorry peeps but im having a really f***ed day...[edited]:cussing

Also hope bug's OWNERS are ok:kiss

"sorry, Golfs don't count:P " by me.
...sorry Maya, was a silly joke, sorry.

Mrs Herbie ·

Sorry to hear about yours/Greg's job Maya. That sucks.

Having had an accident in a new beetle i can definately vouch for there safety. In the words of the tow truck driver "this thing must be built like a tank". The uninsured drunk idiots ute was written off...my car had a couple of scratches.

Hope that everyone involved in the accident was okay, i heard the traffic was backed up for hours.

Mel

james(DNVK) ·

that sucks. I know what it feels like to be run off the road and have your pride and joy wrecked.
sorry to see it happen to such a nice bug

Y2K ·

hope you were ok Mel, its not a nice thing to happen to anybody. Doug's a legend, he''ll be alright.:kiss

ratty 63 ·

Hi all,

Just recieved an email from the previous owner of the bug in the accident - just to confirm that it was his old bug - he is trying to contact the current owners to see that they are OK....

R 🙂

Starbug ·

rattty, is it an apple green bug with white sides?
if so... im going to cry 🙁

ratty 63 ·

...yep, thats the one 🙁

I just had a look through my collection of photos but I don't have a pic of it before the accident....

R 🙁

Starbug ·

:cry thats the one from 3 streets away
i hope the girls are alright

ratty 63 ·

...John (the original owner) just emailed me again to let me know that the car is totaled :cry

He has just bought it from the insurance company to strip for parts as the body is damaged both front and rear and way too bent to be repaired...

It was a great looking car - a real shame to see it go.

R 🙁

ByronBug ·

My heart goes out to him....
I hope he gets another one & is on the road again soon ...

Robo ·

Another Beetle lost!..:cry
Rob...😎

penguin ·

I'm not sure John has much to worry about, what about the driver and pax??? are they okay?

ratty 63 ·

...I'll know more about the occupants of the car shortly....

R 🙁

robnjo ·

how did they end up, anyone heard?

Limbug ·

Just to confirm that the beetle in question was owned by me and sold to a lady in Paddington where some of you may have seen it. The one occupant was ok in the smash with a slight cut to her forehead after been rammed from the rear and shunted into a wall along with the other cars. Unfortunetly this beetle will not be going back on the road but the good news I have purchased the car back from the insurance company and hope to salvage what I can.
I have attached a few pics of the car. It was my second ever VW project and it actually made it to Valla in 2001.

Regards

John

penguin ·

Damn mate

I hope that the previous owner is okay then and not turned off bugs. Maybe she could look at getting a kombi to put her a little higher in traffic? or a type 3 to use the stealth VW look (well, most ppl seem to forget that they are VWs:P) or go class and get herself a ghia??

robnjo ·

good to hear they are ok...shame about the bug, should of been a t3 :P

penguin ·

Ahem

must remember to talk to you young man :P about your taste in cars :P

Limbug ·

robnjo ·

...sorry did I say t3....hmmm, I ment T3 square back:P😊P

penguin ·

Damn that looked a nice car,
as for Rob. hmmmm... you'll keep :P maybe greasy finger prints on some of that chrome in your engine bay 😀

robnjo ·

hey, keep your dimsim eaten fingers away:cussing

penguin ·

I believe that the phrase you may be looking for is
'keep your goddamn monkey fingers offa my sh**!'

and .. no 😉

VWFREAK ·

Thats so unfair,

with so many ricers (and before anyone complains I own one okay) around the place, why did the bug have to die?????

Canni. ·
