Hey,
what sort of fuel economy do you guys get.
I run optimax or BP Ultimate and on a 125mile run i used 18.5litres. Works out @ 9.5litres per 100km's and that was having some fun for a good 30miles of the trip.

What do u guys get?

Mines a 1300 bored to 1600 running what seems to be a standard carbie with a hiflow rampod filter.

Flying VW ·

Yeah about 10 Ltrs per Hundred in my 1600 Baja

barls ·

yeah about 10 in t4 powered bug

helbus ·

About 12 in the bus.

I used to get around 7.5 - 8.5 l/100 km in the New Beetle (1.8t) depending on how I drove it (fast or very fast).

I now get around 7 l/100 km in the C3... and it's impossible to drive it fast.

thanks,
Andrew

I've got a bus (74 1800), and on the highway I can also get about 10l/100km, doing 80km/h (about 420km used 39 litres). I'm pretty happy with that, what with the loaf having the aerodynamics of a housebrick.

In town, maybe double that! Ouch. We don't drive in town often.

I think there were more posts on this in Tech Talk some time.

Midlife crisis ·

Using o0ld numbers I get about 25mpg out of my 73 fastie with ywin carbs

I also have camper and bus and at 85-90 get around 10-12 depending on condition.
As for arerodynamics please read the following.
The idea for the Type 2 is credited to Dutch

For other uses of the word Dutch, see Dutch (disambiguation).

. Volkswagen importer Ben Pon, who drew the first sketches of the van in 1947.
Aerodynamics is a branch of fluid dynamics concerned with the study of gas flows. The solution of an aerodynamic problem normally involves calculating for various properties of the flow, such as velocity, pressure, density, and temperature, as a function of space and time. Understanding the flow pattern makes it possible to calculate or approximate the forces and moments acting on bodies in the flow. This mathematical analysis and empirical approximation form the scientific basis for heavier-than-air flight.
The aerodynamics of the first prototypes were not good but heavy optimisation took place at the wind tunnel of the Technical University of Braunschweig
. The wind tunnel work paid off, as the Type 2 was aerodynamically superior to the Beetle despite its slab-sided shape. Three years later, under the direction of Volkswagen's new CEO Heinz Nordhoff, the first production model left the factory at Wolfsburg

Sounds like my beetle is scoring about the normal then. Thanks for the input 😎
