hey guys, I decided to log on today, as some of you may know (although it appears none of you did) ove the weekend just gone, was the tenth annual small car sunday event.
I entered my new 1973 RX-4 as part of the SA Rotors club display, so I was there all day, there was everything around, from oldskool rotarys, through to the latest models, BMW's, toyotas, nissans, there was an original 1969 Mazda R100, right up to a couple of 1997 S7 RX-7's, there were also very old (60's maybe) mitsubishi colt and datsun bluebird, again right up to EVO 8 lancers and R34 skylines and S15 silvias, there was even an old austin 10 sedan hotrod, complete with supercharged toyota 2 litre on board.
it was obviously a japanese dominated show, but I did a couple of laps, there were BMW's, Mercedes', but I spotted only one Audi among them, and a single karmann ghia (spelling?)
after the bit VW show a couple of weeks ago, I was amazed at the no show by some of the very nice volkswagens around adelaide.
incidentally, the karmann won two trophies on the day, and if there had have been a bigger representation, more of the trophies would have gone to aircooleds, no doubt about that at all.

sorry, apparently Danielle has already posted about this, but its on the second page already...
oh and anything from a fully restored oval right up to a crazy new beetle would have been well recieved, even if it was just for being different.

Would loved to have been there but flew to Melbourne for the best display of VW's you are ever likely to see-so many in one place at the same time-amazing.

would be good to hear of this before the event not a week later!!!!!!
then maybe there would have been some at the show.....
next time you hear of a show coming up post a quick note on here and i'll be there in a flash😎

Ryan here 😉
nbturbo, I guess you got a good enough excuse, about the only thing that excuses you from going to one show, is going to another bigger show 😉
and honestly, I thought someone else would have made a note of it, I found out through my involvement with the SARotors club.
the weekend was organised (if you can call it that) by the sporting car club, but for some reason they dont seem to advertise anything they run, I also was at a race meeting at mallala a few weeks ago run by the SCC, and they dont advertise that either.
next time theres any all model carshows on, I'll be sure that some details get posted. only real big shows I know of though are small car sunday, the 4,6 and rotor nationals, and the extreme horsepower show. luckily everyone these days seems to have a broader sense of what it takes to build a car, be it V8, wankel or air cooled boxer 🙂

Next year i will put 20" rims,a stoopid body kit, some god awfull leather interior colour scheme and as many audio stickers i can find on my dragcar then i may look the part....lol
Seriously tho.....The ricer's of late cant stand being beaten by a dub.
So to save the abuse we just dont turn up.
My experience anyway.
Let me guess...it was a red Karmann convertable?

Ryan again 😉
aaron, thats a pretty poor excuse, like I said, the lone karmann won two trophies, a friends dead stock RX-7 got one, and there were heaps won by older celicas and stuff.
I didnt see anyone get abused once, although after seeing the last VW show, I can imagine all of the 'rat look' cars would get given hell, but thats because a 40 year old car that looks 60 years old isnt very nice to look at.
if you got a nicely done beetle, with decent paint, clean and matching wheels, rip-free interior, then you are up with the ricers.
it does go with what show it is though, I mean at rice salon, I mean 'auto salon' they wont recieve old beetles too well, but a day like small car sunday, which is run by car enthusiasts not cheque book warriors, they will appreciate the work put in rather than the money spent.

yer lulu
who would dare drive around in a heap of crap like that !!!!!
he he 😉

its Ryan here again, Danielle reckons I sounded a bit harsh before, but I mean dont worry about what other people think about your cars, I dont like their cars with 20's and enough fibreglass to build a small boat.
oh and I wasnt having a go at rat lookers either, just saying at a mainstream show, they wouldnt be well accepted.
oh and aaron, yeah it was a red karmann convertible.
I like to look at everything, so please next year, someone else turn up with something VW, and hopefully nice enough to knock a few of these pay for trophy guys out of the trophies.
