Where have our rights gone.

Today i was told that on the military base which i work, the sale of PICTURE and PEOPLE magazines will be stopped.

This has come about from someone picking up the magazine and flicking through it and being offended by what was inside.

By looking at the cover of these magazines, i am sure that you can guess what the content is going to be.

Is it just me or do others think that it is wrong that we can go to war and be killed, but we can't buy a soft core magazine.

These magazines were not displayed in a promanent location in the canteen nor were they open for people to see. This wanker looked through it of thier own free will.

So i would like to guage other peoples opinions on wether you think this is an over the top reaction and just another case of a large corporation giving into a whinging minority.

society is full of shit like this. it is becoming really stupid and petty. im not into the mag scene, but if i chose to look then i get what i get. life should be all about choices.

wait until someone says the same about cars. 'oh it offends me and i was put in a dangerous situation when my car went too fast... i dont think any should be like this........... oh sir your right we will ban them from anybody'

But get this,
they can still sell CLEO and COSMO with all there crap in them, man that shit is being read/purchased by 13yr old girls, and the covers feature titles that are well and truely adult content.

The mags you mention are unrestrricted. To get that classification the content has already been judged NOT to be OFFENSIVE to a REASONABLE person. That is the legal test.

I guess you can see that the complainant is not a REASONABLE person as far as the legal system works.



I bet they are a Born-Again. These people are offensive to many reasonable people, but we don't try to ban them!

i think that i might start a patition to get Ralph, FHM, Cleo, Cosmo, Womans Day, Thats Life and any other magazine that has any to do with a sexual conatation on its cover banned from the canteen.

Heck, while i am at it i will get aircraft, navy, airforce and army magazines banned as i am upset by the images of machines that are only used to cause huamn suffering and death........Then its onto surfing magazines and sports magazines.

I will try to systematically spotlight every magazine in the canteen and find something wrong with them.

It may be a waste of time but if i annoy them they may get the point, or they may throw me in military jail for being a pain in the arse.

you forgot to bann music mags like rolling stone, advertising heavy metal bands with offensive lyrics such as marylin manson. (court case about that... by a born again!)

its amazing that this can happen, yet a white supremasist group can print their magazine no problems, as long as they sell it within theyre own confines. its an awful awful truth that in this day and age, its violence before nudity, hate before love, war before... i think im gonna go buy a kombi now...

if the sight of an airbrushed and fully digitised woman (or man for that matter) offends anyone, they need to be slapped upside the head. (its not real for F**ks sake!!)
anyone that finds themselves offended by softcore porn needs to get over themselves, they'd probably be offended by a thursday night on the town with all the short skirts and dangling cleavage...

fact of life: some people enjoy making money from their bodies, some people enjoy being a bit exhibitionistic, and some people dont enjoy people doing either of these things.

this sort of thing happened at my work years ago... we used to have pictures plastered everywhere in the workshops. Only some of our staff were female and never really visited us in the workshop so it didn't matter. Then it was decided by management that it was sexist etc etc and that we had to remove all traces of that type of material from plain view.
One of the female engineers actually made the comment that it embarrassed her more to be asked what she thought of it all than to actually see the stuff up on the walls.
but i spose with all the legal garb these days they have to cover their asses .... so to speak :thumb

regardless of why we want them, we shouldn't be able to buy them at the canteen on a military base.

99% of the people there are over the age of 18, and there are no kids on the base too.

So the only people that would see them are able to make up there own minds if they want to look at them.

Well People and Picture are still available in every servo and newsagent I have seen, and I don't think kids are banned from them.

I think we should all take our clothes off for a day. Have a national nude day.

A lot of the shock and mystery would be stemmed. People would realise were are more alike than you think, and well also different, which is good or we would have trouble telling each other apart.

Also we were born nude, so the work 'naked' should not be used as it means 'something is missing'. There is nothing missing when we have no clothes on, we are actually natural and nude. More pure so to speak.

Dude, you should talk to the EFA - http://www.efa.org.au/ and see if they can do anything for you. However, they are "do gooders" which people here seem to hate ... until they need them.

If you want to read this stuff, you should be able too, if not, dont look or even glance over to the magazine stand. Simple. And all those that dont want to look but do anyway and then make a big deal of it. Go crawl back under your rock where you came from!

Im with fool, I work at a school picking up the pieces of screwed up children some of which relates to sex and abuse not just by adults, but self abuse trying to be adults when they should be enjoying being children...

But thats another thread altogether...

The only other concern is the way men treat women already (obviously not every man but an increasing few) porn can lead to some men thinking of women as objects and lead to abuse...another case of gang rape in the last few days...

Also the money made through the exploitation of women...

I guess in away i have never thought of it like that. I see the women offering themselves for these explicit pictures and go, well fair enough, its a job, a source on income. Maybe not the best job in the world but.... each to there own. As for it leading to men treating women like objects i can totally agree with that occuring. I have been lucky, i have had an ideal up bringing with both parents being happily married for 23 years now and therefore having the pefect role model of a father. He has always drilled me to treat a women like a lady and nothing else. They are human not objects and should be treated equally. It dissapoints me to see the way some of my so called mates tend to become a 'Player" at the night club scene and leading these women along and some of the verbal comments made out of car windows while driving at young women walking along the foot path to, and from a good night out.

I aint a goodie, goodie, nor a church goer or anything like that, and i am not about to preach what i think and try and alter the way others think, I however feel there is something thats creating this too occur, and its not so much porn magazines, but more role models and influence from mates and fellow peers, parents and guardians.

If you look at the people who treat and disrespect women its of most circumstances those who have had a split in there parents relationship, or guardians or close to someone who has. If i look at my so called mates who do treat women with little to no respect, its always the same factors. There parents have had problems in there relationship and therefore the child grows up thinking its cool to abuse a women or treat one like shit as thats what there father did to there mother. I am not suggesting this is the case for all people, and i am not catagorizing anyone. I cant stress this enough as the last thing i want to do is put someone down for something they are not. I speaking soley from what i have seen growing up. As i said i have been lucky. I am from a happy family so i can not talk from the heart.

I do have to add in that i used the terms "so called mates" as a person who treats a lady like shit is of no mate of mine. I dont care how close they are to me or my family. Its the principle of the matter....

Thats my opinion on the matter and only my opinion. Its of no offence to anyone. As byronbus said, create some further discussion at the most. (sorry for rambling, i just felt it was something i had to touch on)
