Just got this today from Morgan
Here it is...who said having gas is bad for ya...
The smiths gassed up. Looks like an ANDRA licence for you boys.

OvalGlen ·

Please Sir.!
Put me in 50th place until I can better this time.
At least I'm in " The List ".
Please note the Date . . . .17 th Jan 2004
first day of "Time Slips"
(unfortunately no Amulance meant we had to keep
speed below 60 Km/h ).
(also note that with this Drag computer WSID , the maximum
time it accepts is 32 sec, .... after that it starts getting " screwy- I have seen a mo-ped get a speed read out 230 MPH because the comp reset at 32 secs and then ....)
-
Its the awesome 25.58 sec pass. Go on Post your Better slip.!

14.6 : me : kombi : turbo : 1970cc : even further back : E.Creek

Doing a huge cleanout, will have to see if I can find the slips.

amazer ·

that wasnt too hard
kombi at the creek:

amazer ·

looks like i deducted some GST in my original claim of 13.8. This is the only time I had it on the strip and it was popping and farting all the way. Kinda embarrassing since the adelaide club paid to ship the car over there :puke

hypo-vw ·

Hi Pete ,
here is a couple of time slips for my oval , from the DRAG COMBAT / VW NATIONALS 2005 . the first shows quickest ET and the second shows quickest speed . Hope you had a great day on sunday , thanks Wayne .

hypo-vw ·

quickest speed achieved on the first outing was 122.44 MPH / 197.06 KPH and quickest ET was 11.609

hypo-vw ·

Lisa drove MANGO for her very first time at the strip , with a best of 16.163 @ 79.96 mph

vw54 ·

My time slip from the weekend

amazer ·

found another time slip, could be an entry into both top 50's.
Was in QLD when I was running the kombi with an old f2 haltech that kept getting the map sensor blown out of it. Just squeaks in under the .1 reaction.

[Edited on 26-5-2005 by amazer]

Had another slip today from Adolph. Ex South Africa now sunning it in WA.

speedster356 ·

Two new slips from the Debiasi family.
Adam (debiasi4) in the 57 down to 12.15s and Michaela (glita1) doing a quick 14.31s with her 1916 powered buggy.

speedster356 ·

Mr John (stylin) is listed with a 12.35s pass after an email, thanks John. :thumb
Any details on the engine? 😉
It seems to be a hell of a scrap going on in the low 12s to 12.5s listings. I like it............

[Edited on 7-6-2005 by speedster356]

speedster356 ·

And theres a new entry from back in 97.
boostn with a 11.23 in a turbo 70 beetle (1835):thumb

[Edited on 9-6-2005 by speedster356]

amazer ·

It wasnt the wet that was the problem, it was the wind. Cant run with gusts like that and the debris coming down on the track, let alone the possibility of a whole tree (has happened before and I see it did happen to a 4wd in sydney).

Also, not too bad for me in the heated shed, but wouldnt have been too nice for the poor suckers that I would have to make sit on a flag point. I woke up at 3am and new it was off. Had to go and sit out there from 7 till 10 absolutely freezing my arse off. Pretty pissed off. 46 pre entries. $3215 goooone.

vw54 ·

Gooday Dave

Is this a time slip for your car ????

dangerous ·

Yes Dave the superchargers are sold and the engine is in the old pan car in high compression and destroked form. Still to confirm the weight, but it now has the steel wheels, VW brakes all round and glass windows instead of lexan. If it doesn't weigh 900kgs, I had better redyno the engine to find the lost power!

dangerous ·

Please upgrade my 12.00@113 to a 11.69@ 114.77.
Will fax it thru Mr McLeod!

humpty ·

Adolf has bought my old 64 bug (see avatar)! And he's stickin one of his donks in it...Should be good for around 200hp...Its a 2.7 TIV FAT performance motor I believe!

By the way...The best time I had with that car was 14.8, though I haven't got a timeing slip here...Its in storage somewhere...If i find it, I'll post it. That engine was N/A 1776 in full street trim (with a stinger which was outlawed after that run!) and all the heavy shit!

And Henry's old Manx can be seen in the fantatsic book "Knowing Australian Volkswagens" (by Dave Long and Phil Mathews) on page 105. The car next to it is Steve's old VOLKSTUNE WBX powered bug if I remember rightly. I seem to remember Henry broke the shifter in the buggy at Oran Park back in 1990...Bloody funny that was too! Where's that car now?

Another slip from Dangerous

speedster356 ·

Anyone know what morgan is up to since his 11.66 run???
He's been very quiet lately..................I think he's up to something?

He's in Canada.

VDubya ·

If this is ths top 50 its a pitty theres not 50 cars out there

shiftyvw ·

wheres your car vdubya and how fast is it?

dangerous ·

Here is my enthusiastic update: I ran 11.54@114.65.
This is improved from my 11.69 position on the forum and my best of 11.66.
Will fax it thru Mr McLeod!

nice run last nite Dave

Craig Torrens ·

Hi Dave, are you going to update the list ?

motha ·

Its not a Beetle, buts its still a VW.

76 Mk1 Golf

Yes I did trailer it! Call it what you like eg. trailer queen, but with as crap history as I have with racing VW's, they always break on me, so its better to be safe than sorry.

Ran the car in full street trim, as I drive it to work everyday & do 700+km each week in.
All that was removed was the spare wheel & jack.
Full seat's, trim everything, even down to the crummy 13" Bob Jane Allrounders!

Engine is a stock low compression "slug" 1.8L with a mild Autotech 270° cam & HD valve springs
K-Jet fuel system with a piece from here & there off other makes & models
Saab 900 T3 turbo
Galant intercooler
MSD Ignition Boost timing retard
HD clutch (which slips)
Stock Diesel 4spd

All home built & tuned.

If people are interested I can post up a build thread.

1st run

14.36 @ 101.8mph 2.6 60ft! Yes very lazy take off, but was also on the bald 165/65R13's!!

2nd

Fitted up the stickier road tyres with 10psi

13.99 @ 101.53mph 2.3 60ft. Still lazy & slow on the take off. Slight wheel spin & mild clutch slip

3rd

13.78 @ 101.6mph 2.2 60 ft. Still very slow take off as I didn't want to just rev it up & dump it & break it "AGAIN!", slight wheel spin & mild clutch slip.

I reckon with a proper race clutch, alittle bit more track time & a few suspension tweaks there is still a few tenth's in it.

13.9 pass

13.7 pass

Cheers dude.

A few people were saying last night it was a "slow track".

Very dewy & alot of cars were a few tenths off there normal consistant times & PB's.

So I reckon with some more track time, a few tweaks & good conditions a low 13 could be on the cards.

But you'll always have trouble launching a FWD. Thats why they 60ft crap & make it up in the top end & it shows with the mph they run.

There was a bloke there in a Ford Galaxy that ran 13.1@102mph, where as I'm over half a second off but running the same mph. If that makes sense.

But to me a low 13sec car isn't all that fast.

A fast streeter to me is a mid - high 12 sec car.

One day I'll get there, but will need alittle bit more power

Craig Torrens ·

Yeah street cars are just so much quicker now...............my evo X did a 12.8 and its a standard showroom car !

hope to update tomorroww now the nats is over and my work print is working once again

motha ·

Well I finally got a chance to run at a Calder after it had been washed out for the last few street meets & tonight didn't disappoint one bit.

Managed to get 4 runs in, which for the amount of people that turn up, its pretty bloody good.

Car is still full weight/trim with street tyres & the only mods from my daily driver setup is a VW Motorsport rear trans mount, a couple of bump & rebound adjustments to the shocks & tyre pressures. No ride height changes.

Anyway they went like this

13.44@104.8mph 2.12 60ft (8.73@83.3mph 1/8th which is miles off the cars best of 8.15@86mph)

13.26@104.02mph 2.12 60ft

and.......

13.002@105.74mph 1.96 60ft (8.35@84mph 1/8th)

Very happy with this run, as my prediction was a 12.8-12.9@105-107mph .

4th run was go for broke and...

It launched hard off the 2-step, shook the tyres & smashed the RH outer CV joint.

Doesn't matter though. the car is running awesome & having a stock drivetrain handling 20+pass', plus the huge amount of street abuse, powerskids, clutch dumps off the 2-step in 2nd gear, I was expecting it to break sooner or later.

But for now, I'll replace the CV & head back out again for the 12....

13.00 pass. Sorry, it was off my phone taken by a mate. & it doesn't have zoom. I really should of taken a camera with me, as I knew it was going to be a good night.

Was an awesome night & couldn't believe the amount of people who were coming up afterwards & saying stuff like, "watching your shoebox run that hard was the biggest surprise I've seen at Calder in a very long time" & the best one was from a bloke who said "dude, this is by far the best highlight of the night for me. Even better than some of the 9 sec cars to watch!"

Good feeling.

Bring on the 12's

modulus ·

What a great sleeper - looks like your auntie's car and runs low 13's!

Well done on a successful night. Looks like a 12 for sure...next time 🙂.

Can't wait. Will get another CV joint in & back out there in 2 weeks I hope

Thought I'd update this from the last street meet I attended last Friday.

Yes I know it was April fools day, but this is no lie.

Anyway, straight off the trailer

13.068@105.51mph - 2.04 60ft, 8.42@84.61mph. Waaay off the normal 60ft & half track pace.

Then!!!!!!

12.993@106.87mph- 2.06 60ft, 8.38@85.46mph. Still off the 60ft & half track pace, but finally ran a full street trimmed & weight 12!!!!

Fastest & first Mk1 in Australia into the 12's & doing it in full street trim/weight & also using agricultural "K-Jet" mechanical injection!!!!!

Last run I launched hard & mashed it & at half track started smoking like all buggery.

Didn't get a time slip due to below, but I looked up & still ran a smoking 13.1! haha

anyway, I broke it!

Stock pistons & rods with K-Jet can only take sooo much abuse.

Oiled down most of the track & made a mess everywhere! Oil was pumping out the breather like it was going out of fashion!

I dare say, its melted a piston & broke a few rings to pump out that much oil! It still runs 100% & drove it onto the trailer etc. But its now taken up smoking!!!

I know if I had of been able to launch on my PB 1.8 60ft, the car would of run onto a 12.5-12.6! But it just wasn't to be.

Spewing I didn't get any video's or pics on the night & no one I can find who was there did either. I turned up very early in the night & got 3 hot laps in within 30mins! Was surprised how empty Calder was at that time in the arvo! But the good thing is I got my runs in & then got to kick back & watch some real cars run!

Just for interest sake a bloke turned up in a Ferrari 355 & all he could manage to run was a mid 13 @ high 90's mph!!! Wish I had of lined up against him!!!! haha

Some more carnage pics.

It still runs & runs smooth as, but just pumps out vapour from the catch can! haha

Where to next after this. I don't know. I've accomplished what I set out to do & now at the cross roads with not only this car, as its soooo bloody rusty its not funny & not worth the time & effort to fix, but also racing VW's in general! Can't be stuffed building another car to replace it.

I suppose we'll see what we'll see.

Some more pics in daylight

yes Doug , it was 139.70mph and yes it will do 9's also . My turbo oval is going on a diet before Sydney VW Showdown 2013 as it is over 100kg heavier than Ben Fords bug due to the fact that it is a street car with a big engine , and Ben has just given me the incentive I needed to push a little harder . Engine work has also started on the new engine case 👍👍

I didnt do any 1320 feets, being slowest car I backed off on every run. Qualifiers dont count as I was still figuring out how to launch a front wheel drive. This last run was my quickest and I only lifted at about the first mph marker so would be pretty close. Stoked as I expected 18 or 19.

Wow this page hasn't had any updates for a while

Finally got a dry Wednesday night so I took my bug out to the drags.

Getting used to launching and shifting gears again, I need some improvement.

I was getting some wheel hop which I'm sure caused me to break a drive shaft. I need to tie the motor and trans down a bit better

Its a custom drive shaft, modified 944 with a 930 CV flange welded on.

Best ET was 11.803 and best MPH 124.29
