11CAB ·

Seems Baja Buses are only an East Coast thing......

kombibob ·

KV ·

I've got a baja - from wa 😉(brang it over from ballarat though :duh ). But it's currently in no condition to go on a trip. I've seen this real swarv baja in Freo a few times and another time i saw a red/orange one on the great eastern highway. Us baja riders are in the west :P our numbers are just scarce that's all.

well what needs to be done to get it into condition ????

wacked1 ·

i got mine from WA but don't know if you would consider it a baja bus or not ???

11CAB ·

There's plenty of baja bugs, but i doubt there are any baja buses.

wacked1 ·

here it is

looks different now

Jamox ·

I'll stand up and be counted. I've got a baja. I'd love to go on a trip sometime but beign a bit further away can make it a bit harder to get organised. I reckon it would be great though.

So yeh. There must be a fair few people around with offroad vws surely? Just a matter of tracking em down?

Desert Bug ·

G'day,
Thanks for the plug Andy. Yeah don't forget Me, you can't get much more offroad than where I live, at the junction of the Canning Stock Route and the Tanami Track in the Great Sandy Desert, and with an Offroad Splitty no less.
We are looking into a couple of trips down the CSR and the Kimberlys (Gibb River road) next dry season ('05).
We're driving to Darwin for Christmas in the Desert Splitty (about 1500ks each way) with trailer in tow to pick up some s/h tyres and stuff.
Cheers, Ian.

WABaja ·

I have always wanted to do a trip with Baja's and Buggies going from Perth to Wolf Creek Crater..

I plan to call it,

"Wolfsburg to Wolf Creek"...

It would take a lot of planning, but it sure would be some fun...!!!!
I'll put you down for it Moose...🙂

64vwmark ·

I'd love to be a part of it. I would need a fair bit of notice though as I might need to get holidays, depending on when it happens.

WABaja ·

Yeah I can't see it happening anytime soon, as it's one of those things that would take an aweful lot of planning with many things (including Fuel drops) to be organized, but one day, one day...
It would be a trip of a lifetime though...😎

64vwmark ·

Yeah, would definetly be a trip of a lifetime. I would need time to prep my car and get some spares together too. The major thing is getting my bar work done but I'm working on this, might get get a spare windscreen made up too.

WABaja ·

Yes... Spare screen is one thing I learnt my lesson on after having one busted out in the middle of No where and wouldn't you know it, a farmer about 30 K's out of Mukinbuddin had an old beetle in his back paddock,..!!!
Gave him 20 bucks for the screen, fitted it in the paddock as the sun was going down, and off we went on our merry way...
Ahhh Good days them...:thumb

WABaja ·

hhhmmm... OK, now, Country Buggies ya say...

Well, have a look at what I went and grabbed off a farm out the back of Toodyay for a guy, not so long ago, and before you ask, there were only 2 there and YES he took the both of them...
Restoration has already begun and what started as a plan to build one and scrap the other now looks like a plan to build 2...

🙂

64vwmark ·

I could handle having a couple of those things sitting around in my back yard! No split screen Kombi's sitting next to them? Or maybe a split window beetle or original meyers manx..........

What a find!

Would be good to see these two on the trip to the Wolf Creek Crater.

Do you know how much he paid for them??

WABaja ·

Don't know what they cost him and I don't think they'll be seeing too much dirt in their future lives...

64vwmark ·

I hope they end up being driven. Would be good to see one out on the road.

StenGuns ·

I want to set up a crewcab to take on the 2005 Variety Club Bash.. Still planning but will try and take action soon.. Trouble is it has to be a 68-70 to be eligible (that is unless its a split).. Got my eye on a couple of candidates.. What a blast it will be (hope I'm ready).. Anyone want to join in?

64vwmark ·

Just got back from work after a week of nightshift. Feel like crap but must stay up today unless I want to be nocturnal for the next few days.

Anyone feel like going off road run somewhere near Perth on Sat 22nd or Sun 23rd? Nothing too serious just for fun.

Desert Moose ·

that sounds like a good idea, do you have somewhere in mind

64vwmark ·

Maybe some of the tracks up in the hills? Saw some this morning when I flew in which looked interesting, but I haven't been out there before so I don't know my way around. I've been in the pines up near Yanchep which is ok.

Any suggestions?

Was thinking of something not too serious but just a bit of fun. Maybe meet somewhere at lunchtime and then go off road for most of the afternoon.

Desert Moose ·

what about the power lines at mundaring ? I know my way around up there and I could take my Jeep as backup (just in case). We could all meet at sawyers valley or midland @ 9.30am that way we could make a day of it(back by 3.30 hopefully) What do you think.

64vwmark ·

That sounds like a good plan!

What day would be best? Sun 23rd??

It doesn't matter to me as I have a few weeks off but have plans for this weekend already.

Desert Moose ·

I think Sunday would be best, cause some poeple work Saturday. but lets see who wants to come I'm happy sat or sun... need to find a palce to meet that will be on the way for every body.:duh

since it was your idea....lol, make a new thread with all the details.:thumb

64vwmark ·

Ok sounds good. I'll have a look at the map for a meeting place that should be fairly central.

I'll post a new thread out tonight, stay tuned.........

Time for a nap now

WABaja ·

Put me down as interested provided it's a Sunday and the start is not too early, coz Saturday nights often finish for me at around 4 or 5am...
I'll talk to Andy (with the Baja ute) he might be keen as well...

There are some good tracks out past Sawyers Valley that we have been to half a dozen times, and there's some great things to see out there with old deserted homesteads, wrecked cars and some awesome tracks and mud pans...

Desert Moose ·

Cool, Sunday it is then...... 9.30's not to early is it:P

WABaja ·

YES...!!!:puke

Desert Moose ·

WABaja wrote:YES...!!!:puke
you know your way around up there anyway don't you ? you could find us up there if you ring me on the day I can tell you where we are.

what time would you be talking about......?

WABaja ·

I don't want to drive up there by myself...!!!!
I attact too much "Attention"...:cry

Desert Moose ·

we can work on a time a little closer to the day ( just for you..lol)

WABaja ·

Ohr Gee:blush

I'll try to get an early night and meet you half way on the time factor issue..
Howzat sound...???😉

by half way, I mean 11.00am..😉
And I still haven't caught up with Andy to see if he wants to come along...

64vwmark ·

Sounds good to me! The main thing is getting out there and having a bit of fun. Do you normally take an Esky out there?

I usually take some recovery gear and some tools. What else do I need to take?

WABaja ·

uuhhmmm... A mobile phone, a compass, a tow truck, a first aid kit, a 2 way, a medi-vac chopper, 10,000 screaming Rally Fans that speak very little english and start each sentence with the phrase, "Yeah, OK".......

But seriously, when I go out, I take a mobile phone, some cash, a bottle of coke and a few hand tools a tow rope, some snatch straps... But I always leave the tow truck key with a mate...

Desert Moose ·

11am it is.....lol (middle of the day:cussing.....lol)

an Esky is a good idea, because it gets very hot up there this time of year, not that it will worry you Mark but still. I also pack a light lunch and a small firstaid kit

64vwmark ·

Yes a first aid kit is a good idea. I'll go and get one today.

So let me get the meeting place right...It's the Caltex on Great Eastern Highway, Midvale near Auto Europe?

Desert Moose ·

yeah that sounds right

WABaja ·

"Yeah, OK', but it's still a week and a bit away, so if I can get there a tad earlier, I will, but, "Yeah, OK" it's one of those things that I don't know how the night will go, till it's gone... "Yeah, OK", Last night finished for me well after sunrise this morning thanks to a pair of Idiots that wrapped their car around a couple of trees trying to do a fuel drive off...

Desert Moose ·

11am it is ........ cause I have told every body to change the time from 9 and not ring them all again....lol

WABaja ·

Every body...???
How many are going...???

:party

You better be....
You're the "Designated Decoy"....
They can Chase you, while we all race off in different directions...🙂

64vwmark ·

Gee thanks mate.......

Won't be much of a chase but I'll give them a run for their money............ lol

Wow, they look worse than mine did... are they on the Country Buggy register? (ie log of production numbers)
