If i got stranded anywhere i'm glad it's Tassie as i am hoping to live here soon but my Kombi has prematurally died on me.
I have no mechanical knowlegde what so ever, so i got it towed to the local vw mechanic and he is trying to tell me it will be a $3000 job:puke
Now i'm a single mum traveling with two babies and a dog i couldn't afford that, my Kombi didn't even cost that. I think he is bulls**ting me but i wouldn't know.
If there is anyone down in Hobart who could take a quick look at it for me, i would be forever grateful. Not wanting you to fix it just givew me an unbiased opinon on what is wrong with it.
:cry:cry:cry:cry
I just found out so i'm in shock:duh

Bummer.......
$3000 sounds a bit rich. Sure some aussieveedubbers down Tassie way should be able to point you in the right direction.
Hope it all works out for you.

if its a motor. it would be cheaper to get kombidogs. put it on a ferry and then get a local forum to put it in.....
sounds like a lot unless youve totally stuffed the motor. but then you dhould be able to get a decond handie.

I got a reco'd donk in my `89 Celica for about $3,500 or something. So somehow I don't think you should be up for $3K for a Kombi engine.

You should rename this thread to

Who says they were trying to rip her off? That may be what it costs to do it PROPERLY not just a bodge up.

Can anyone in Tassie help?
Greg Cash in Launceston used to be good with helping with parts...but he's not been on here for months....
sax ·
Ive only got a type one 1200 head but if anybody in Sydney has one, I'd be happy to pick up and help with getting it down there.
VolksFolks ·
Thanks Jen!

One head job for $3000? Pardon the pun....you do the math.

...SAndy you have a u2u if you haven't noticed already
Refer to the post above. If we can all throw in some money towards this then we can get the head.
Andy - can you try and co-ordinate this somehow????
Squiz....

Buggar I merged the two threads n thought I'd lost the lot....Andy it's lost the title you had for the other thread asking for helpers but it's all there
The_Bronze. ·
Had a poke around this arvo but couldn't find any of the regular type 2 guys getting around. I think I'm too far away to be any help anyhow, it would take more than a couple of day to get down there.
Will still ask around though.
Bronze.

Shucks guys, you all have no idea how touched i am by all the trouble you are all going to😊) I don't know what to say except Thanks and ((HUGS))
I do have some $$ not huge amounts but a few hundred so if there is good parts that need to be bought let me know.
I'm a little embaressed at all this kindness of strangers, but it's a wonderful thing, a really special thanks to Andy for organisng all this and for helping out a stranded Dubber
Also wanted to say about the mechanics that even though they are expensive i don't think they are trying to rip me off, they aren't charging me for any off the work they have done so that's reall good of them 🙂
jenz58 ·
It's a bummer that these things sometimes happen when we are on holidays......but sounds like all will be well and a totally good experience it makes you feel good about the world and people which is totally a awesome feeling...we need more of it :tree

Well she's going:bounce:bounce:bounce
She still sounds abit rough but i think i'm going to be able to run around in her for awhile. The guy said he ajusted the Tapits?? and a few other things. What a great bloke!!!!!!
He doesn't know how long it will go for but hopefully long enough for me to get the girls around down here and back up to the boat🙂
jenz58 ·
Excellent news.....have fun....enjoy the rest of your trip!!! :party
VolksFolks ·
Well, someone has very kindly offered a head, BUT its a 2.0ltr, i have no idea if these heads will work ok on a 1800, or for that matter work in conjunction with a 1800 head on the other side. any info will be great, also the 2.0 has oval ports!!
Andy
The_Bronze. ·
Well - thats good news as I had no luck.
Most of the guys here I know are Type 1's. I rocked up to a couple of type two places yesterday asking if they had or know of anyone with an 1800 head. They said no but said they had cold beer and would I stay and help them drink it. Of course I didn't want to offend.
Sorry - No 1800 heads in Dubbo but the beer is cold. <-- That my Friday afternoon.
