WTF is with the animosity on this forum lately!

I joined this site just after the whose chebaz about nudity and the banning of it. when i joined every now and then u would have someone make a dig at it or something pushing the line of the rule and that was it. apart from this pretty much everyone got along with everyone else. in the last few months no matter what thread i look in i see someone taking the piss out of someone or something, an argument, an abusive post, a complaint against rules of the forum and general un VW related bull shit that takes up bandwidth and does nothing positive for this wonderful souce of VW information and Interaction with other people who share the same passion as me. Im getting sick of clicking "topic activity" and having half a page of complaint threads.

I know there are people on this forum who like to stir shit. some seriously and some in jest but if u are pissed off at the world buy a bloody punching bag and spend an hour venting your stress dont come on here and make other people pissed off too!

i generally try to stay out of the shit that goes on on here but this is beyond a joke! im not a moderator and cant do much about it but i appeal for you all to think before u post.

apart from that i hope you all have a very merry christmas:tree so far mines been great.

yes. you know the Freedom Fuels Servo on the corner of Pt O halloran RD? I used to work there for about 2 yrs but am filling in there this arvo. I actually live next to the golf course on main street. Have you seen that guy with the white baja around there?

The servo is where I turn up to go to her place.

Don't get down there too often once a month maybe so haven't noticed the white baja

The forum is a big pond with lots of things swimming around in it.

There are some big fish that have been here for years, fish that swim alone in search of knowledge and lots of little fish that follow eachother around.

There is generally a pecking order , a food chain and unfortunatly the odd clash of imature young males fighting to get noticed!

For the most part there is harmony in our pond and as ponds go ours is the pond to be seen in and easily the best!

Forums like these are always wrecked by one or two looking for a fight, or being totally unreasonable, or over reacting. Then again, sometimes things are said on forums which would be fine to say to someone face to face, but not typed as it is too easy to miss the gentle ribbing. While ever there are internet forums, there will always be locked threads. Thats life. Hope you all have a great christmas, and are kinder next year to us poor water cooled compadres....😉

The problem with the web is that you can't read sarcasm in typed text - so people can possibly take it to heart. The other problem is that because it is an open forum, and someone gets slagged off, then they feel compelled to save face - it's the nature of the beast.

If you can't say something nice, then don't say it. If you dissagree with a technical item, outline your points in a nice manner. Simple manners really.

I think that because you are not face to face that some PPL have a bit more bravado. I would safely bet that more than half the things said on here would not even be thought of saying in the real world when your standing next too or in front of someone! Its easy to be tough when your a thousand miles apart. I did have a problem recently but with persistance and commonsence, sanity prevailed and it was sorted out amicably. Life is too short to hold silly grudge's or to be stubbornly stupid, sometimes you just have to go to give and take a little and go to the middle ground. Or just do whats right and make life a little happer for all. I would rather see a smile on a persons face than tears,unhappyness or stress. Some PPL aske me why I am so positive all the time. I have always found that good vibes attract good vibes in return, my life is good! Its like my cars, I know they are not alive, but they do put out vibes, and they pick up on yours. I have owned old cars all my life, and they have rarely if ever left me stranded. I give them love and attention, talk to them and try to be positive with them. I get sooo much pleasure out of them everytime I get behind the wheel, my enjoyment of them never gets stale! they are my best friends.

I am guessing that your post is aimed at me as I have just restored a splitty and dont know of anyone else who has in recent times.
I have never made a personal attack on anyone, I say as I feel and I believe that is what a forum is about.
Yes I do make some comments to make people think, without them we would be really boring.
What I hate is how some people just expect others to praise tham all the time.
There was a post on this site recently that started"no negative comments allowed"
what does that mean, we must say only nice things all the time, bull shit, we live in the real world, this is a forum and if you dont like something, dont comment or explain.
If you took notice a recent post was answered by me and I did not say anything racist but that is how the post progressed, it was the most viewed post in such a short time, that means people were interested in it.
I didnot see why it was deleted as no personal attacks were made, it was jus some peoples ideas.

Now most know I say as I see it and if you dont like it that is your problem, all those here in Adelaide know me and will say that I am the same in person as I am on this site, what you see is what you get.
I dont type anything that I am not prepared to say to someones face.

As for not commenting before, I had nothing to say, but as you see I have now.

Flying VW well said, Ive enter my car in vw shows and looking at a few trophies as well.I dont as much as i did due to some comments, because i do come pretty hot under the collar as well i mainly been entering in street machine shows and the response is unbelieveable.Knocking of some summernats cars winning,Best engineered,Top Super comp,Best presentation 4 years running and the judges are just blown away with the car.What iam trying to say is the jealousy is pretty bad amongs competitors at vw shows and on this forum as well.Ive really had one comment on this forum from one member but this bloke has done a lot shit stirring with other people as well i wont mention his name but i will guarantee if said to my face????????Really the monitors will find a way to goven this problen soon all later.JVLRacing Merrychrissy Lets be happy!

Just a little insight as to why someone might be online Christmas day...

Husband died nearly 3 years ago....my sould mate has gone and it is an incredibly lonely time of year...I do miss sharing my life with someone incredibly... to the point of it being very painful

2 of 3 children overseas...the other not living at home and he does have a life...a very full and happy one

My family are not big on huge Christmas parties...we tend to spend it with immediate members only which is nice when you have immediate family around...friends spend it with their own families

I did have Christmas lunch with my sister...her hubby...mum...my son and his girlfriend...but woke up in an empty house and came home to an empty house...I could hear other families around me celebrating together...I have such good memories of my kids and husband home ...the house being full of activity and laughter ...for me it is a sad time of year and I try and be as happy as I can and enjoy the company when I have it....

I so am glad my kids are independant ...I know they love me ...but they have their lives to live and an amazing world out there to explore...that's something I've always encouraged in them all their lives

Yes I'd luv to get my old life back but have to make do with where I am right now and have faith that it all has a purpose

Aussie Vee Dubbers is a community of people I enjoy spending time with ...VW's are my luv and my interest in them has helped me maintain some sanity over the past few years.......yes I was online yesterday

Jenz very similar to you and to be honest feel much the same way. I have no family in Oz , split with my girlfriend of 5 years about 2 years ago. I work all hours to have the nice things ( Notch) and live a quiet life on my own.


Since finding AVD i have found alot of mates , untold tech info and alot of parts for my car. Mostly the posts are funny , light hearted or very interesting.

The forum is changing alot and unfortunatly is got to the stage now where i don't post everything i want to as i know i'm going to have some idiot jumping on my post and turning it into a very negative piece.

I was online all of Xmas , even on line at 2am Xmas morning as i couldnt sleep. So what! What,s it to you , do you pay the electric! I have friends and family all over the world and my pc is never turned off especially when i'm on holidays.

One day you may find yourself on your own and you'll know what a life line a place like this is . Comments like that can really hurt people , if you have read Jenz reply you'd see that youve managed to do exactly that. Think how she feels and what awful memories you dragged up for her at this time of year. Nice one!!!

My life can be bright and shiny...I try to make sure it's that way as much as possible...just this time of year can be hard for some people...I was a nurse for over 30 years and enjoyed working Christmas to brighten up some peoples lives who had no family to visit them ... I used to feel for them so much...it can be so hard for some people to get through....it can be a real grieving time for things lost from our lives .....

HEY BUT so many of us were online for happpy sharing with friends reasons....and taking a quick break from festivities to catch up on what others had been doing...plain and simple spreading the cheer to friends

The thing is I do not like them and why should I change my opinion just because someone doesnt agree with it?


Now for something that has been bothering me, how come the most views we have on posts are the ones that get deleted, is it because this is a forum and as far as I believe a forum is for discussing things.

And to answer another comment made about me, yes I have done a split and I DO NOT have a go at people who have done other splits, If someone asks "what do you think of this" I will answer truthfuly, I will not say something just to keep people happy.
I just love to see splits on the road, I have given away a lot of parts to people who need them just to see splits on the road, ( including quite a few members of this site, who I have never met) mine is not perfect and I have NEVER said it is, it is done to my taste and I am happy with it.

I will continue to have a go at GUNNAS, these are people on this site who, when a person advertises some parts, they are always the first to say, Yes I will have some of them, and never do,.They also try and sell things at stupid prices, and also only post on the selling sections of this site and never contribute.

well this has all blown a bit out of proportion.

1)jenz i didnt start this thread to start a fight it was just an appeal because i dont want this forum to become a place where if something is said it wil start an argument no matter the topic.

2)57kombi is right in that people have personalitys and personal opinions and if they are different to others then thats ok as long as they dont try to preach them to you. if someone asks for an opinion of their new accessory on their bug u cant only expect to get positive replys but you shouldnt be put down because of your different tastes.

the main things that piss me off are alike to this example.


i posted an ad in the for sale section for an Audi A100. (yes not techinically a VW but pretty damn close), now this car is not mine and i did not have anything to do with the asking price i was simply posting an ad for a freind to try and help sell his car.

he bought the car not long before for more than he was asking to sell it for and had spent a couple of G's on it already so in his mind that price was what he wanted. now the first reply on this thread i created was by someone who wont be named warning people against the car because the price was too high and the market value was blah blah blah........now this is just not nice.....this is hindering the sale of someone elses property. it had nothing to with this person at all......they had no intention of buying the car, nor any interest in it they just wanted to hinder the sale. this post was later removed from the thread either buy the poster or by a moderator i am unsure which. the car is no longer for sale.

this is, in my opinion unacceptable.....i dont make the rules around here but that made me very angry and i snapped back at the person however i would not take it further.

my point is its things like this that make this forum less inviting everyone doesnt have to be nice and agree on everything thats not what forums are about......just be civil for gods sake.

So far the forum areas are open for people to sell any type of car really...there was talk of having an area for selling other thing people want to get rid of...not sure if that is going to happen...but with some of the difficulties between seller and buyer sometime there may be second thoughts about it all getting out of hand

On Xmas day, I started reading a book (Da Vinci Code) knocked off a couple of bottles of wine and slept a lot.. On Boxing Day, I did the same thing (except finished the book.. utter shite!!)....
... Oh and on both days, I had a peek at the AVD forum.. I know.. I'm and alcoholic, drunken loser with a penchant for pulp fiction and VW's!!

My god... life is good (and I'm often thankful my relatives are all O'seas)

No.. I often don't finish a shite book.. Its just there has been so much talk about this particular book, I felt duty bouind to see what all the fuss was about.. In fact I read mainly autobiographies and historic books.. My favs are early exploration (Cooks voyages) and early Aus/NZ Pacific society books.. What I find most fascinating is a small wooden boat can travel half way around the world and find a tiny island group (Tahiti) in the middle of the worlds largest ocean.. Couple that with the fact that it was largely unexplored and it was the late 1760's and you have a book that will beat any fiction novel..

a couple of things, I reckon if someone posts something in a for sale thread that isn't related to finding more about the sale, condition of the product, etc.. it should be deleted. You wouldn't ring up the trading post and complain about an ad would you?? So don't so it here. I think you might be better off u2uing someone you know who knows a bit about what you want to buy and asking them for their opinion rather that ruining someones FS thread. leave it as a LOCKED thread that can't be commented on.

Also StenGuns, you might like the book, "Holy Blood, Holy Grail". It's the non-fiction book that the speculation from the Da Vinci code was based on...

A lot of the DaVinci code is fictitious... a lot of people have said its written more like a movie than a piece of literature. Dan Brown is a screenplay writer apparently?

It's a well researched book based around the priory of Sion, The templars knights, the grail story, mary magdalene etc... It's very interesting and you have to decide for yourself whether the research collected in the book counts as evidence or not but it's pretty convincing. It stirred up the religious world in a big way when it came out.

The da Vinci code is obviously a work of fiction but there is more truth in it than you might think.

I read it all just to find out what all the fuss was about. I'm at bible college and people were talking about it abit. Didn't change my mind about anything I believe. Lots of the ideas are not new by any stretch. I have to say though, I quickly got tired of him delivering a history book full of supposed 'facts' per chapter, in the midst of trying to conduct a plot. I think most people could tell they were more than a bit exagerated.

That aside, it wasn't a bad read and I really wanted to finish it. Couldn't put it down. Dan Brown must be happy, even if he all his claims are bulldust, he's still made an absolute mint.

Went to Micronesia a few years back...always pick up local books of the country.....facinating stuff....pirates...sea trade...explorers...people jumping ship or being stranged...a few African slaves jumped for freedom....you look at the islanders and you can see their ancestry...big Japanese influence during WWII....get good bento....the islands have always been seperate cultures...but now they are recognising common ancestry and it has helped with independance in the Caroline Islands n what the call the Federated States of Micronesia...making it easier for them to see themselves part of the group rather than individual island cultures :cool:

After reading thru this thread, and having been on the receiving (and giving) end end of ill-feeling quite a few times, I think there is a very basic point that nearly all of us are missing when it comes to electronic print media.

My point is that often the true intent of some words and remarks are well and truly interpreted differently, by different people and what some of us find hillarious can be found downright offensive by another.

This is often due to the lack of visual cues such as a subtle wink, a one sided grin, a shake or toss of the head, even a simple hand gesture or simply a slight change of pronounciation or inflection and innumerable other little physical and verbal signals that seperate a remark such as "WTF" (what the fuck) from a good natured gesture to some, a genuine question from others and on to a downright insult or even threat to some.

Its not a matter of some being thinner skinned than others but simply a matter of different interpretations by different people of the same words in front of us.

Emoticons have been around which may convey some meaning to, at first glance, a seemingly abusive or insulting comment but the bottom line is that many of us in Australia to varying degrees, often say one thing but often mean slightly different but rely on visual or verbal cues to convey the true meaning of a particular comment.

Sadly, the print does not convey well these often important cues and prompts and such these kind of dissagreements, arguments and downright clashes will continue to occurr.

I know I will not back off on a topic I know, or believe I am right on and am plenty guilty of getting obstinate, even abusive if it is interpreted that way, but some of us take the high "well fuck you" road, some of us take a "dun really matter" middle road and some back off as soon as there is the possibility of conflict.

Solution to the dillemna.......I doubt there is one is there?

My only suggestion is, perhaps before putting the mouth into gear with an indignant grit of teeth after bristling at a particular comment, perhaps take a little time to re-read the comment in the context of the thread it was posted in.
Was the writer actually "having a go" or was he "having a go" (now which "having a go" am I using here). Change the inflection of you voice on the word "go" from up to down and completely change the meaning and intent of the comment
There are quite a few interpretations of that simple little phrase.

It is easy to misinterpret plain text, for good and bad.

57kombi (my mate Dave) is a piss taker.
Some people take the piss all the time, in a light hearted non serious manner. This is what he is like.
Granted some people may take it the wrong way as text can be read in many different lights but the way I see it, what he (and others) have said heve been taken the wrong way.
I take the piss too, I upset a guy because I suggest on a regular basis that all VeeDubs should be lowered (my opinion), I ended up getting a grilling about enforcing the current "Fad" (of lowering) upon everyone. That`s just bloody hilarious, chill out!!
What is life without humour, just a shame that some peole`s sense of it differs from others.

Well said chook shedist. I agree that the printed word can be taken the wrong way very easily. That's probably why it's a good idea to think carefully about what you write.

Micronesia is a fascinating area.. clash of so many influences/cultures due to it's geographic location.. One theory has the polynesian migration starting there.. sweeping eastward and then south in a huge circle (via tahiti) to NZ..

Yep everyone seemed to sail through Micronesia...and tried to run it from time to time...incredible history

The Micronesians have an incredible sea knowledge so yes migration makes sense
