Finally after many projects and reading many articles i have learnt and remembered something!!!
Don't mess about with old cars! LOL . No it's that all projects require 2 build -ups. One with the car unpainted and another once painted.
Example 1 of many...newly painted motor , freshly painted engine bay
The engine bay although not finished was waiting on a final coat of paint and some top coat and the motor pretty much done.
Engine bay needed enlarging slightly for carb manifolds etc- hello MR Grinder , good bye nice paintwork
Cables and fuel line need re-routing - hello Mr Drill , slip drilling a hole and put 6" scratch on said nice paintwork
Friend( so called!) tries to lift motor holding the tinware and drops motor!!!!! Bent tinware , scrached paint
Trial fitting the motor i manage to bash the tinware (shit!)AND scratch the engine bay( double shit!!)
Now i know everything fits etc i'll take the motor out , re-paint the engine bay and touch up the paint on the tinware and the whole job will be easier next time. I'll also tape up a few areas that i know will get bashed again so not repeats.
Although i,ve given myself more work at least it wasn't the final paint that got scratched thank god! A little more planning and less rushing to get the car on the road i feel!
Good luck fellow garage dwellers , may the oily rag be with you!
