Slammed Squareback

KruizinKombi 路

They don't get much lower than this!! :o(They can't really, this one is sitting with its pan on the ground!馃榾)

I thought I'd allow myself a little last-minute stress relief before returning tomorrow, so I thought I'd pull the front end out of the mostly-stripped squareback that will be finding a new home at the tip next Sunday.

KruizinKombi 路

Here's how I got it so low...

KruizinKombi 路

And the rear end was already out too...

KruizinKombi 路

Lowest type 3 in Australia maybe???:P

Unity-28 路

Lowest t3 belongs to Brian!!!! Air bagged rear, Adjustable shock at the front!!!!

But very close!!!!

BTW Its a driver and is reg'd!!!

Tazzielittle 路

Now lets not rain on his parade!
Bet its a prick to park.......
:party

KruizinKombi 路

Does his sit on its pan when the suspension is down? There's been a bit of interest here on airbags of late, maybe you could get some photos for us? I'd really like to see some pics of the setup. I'd also be really interested to know what sort of money he spent and maybe where from? Hey, better still, why don't you write an article for the new e-zine soon to be hosted on aussieveedubbers.com!! :thumb:thumb:thumb

jenz58 路

I need pics of slammed type3 sqbacks for inspiration. How's about a pic of Brians ride:bounce

Tazzielittle 路

If you go to http://www.typethreedetectives.com
there is a pic of it on there...
not a good pic, but a pic....

baybuscamperkid 路

i know a guy who supplies airbags here in Melbourne, Locolowriders in Fitzroy. has some SWEEEEEET bikes as well

Unity-28 路

Ive been busting Pauls nuts to get bags for vw for ages! he gets hydros, but bags, not often!!!! That place is my second home!!!!! Brian did all the work himself!!!! It doesnt lay the pan on the floor, cause he has channeled the thing!! It sits lower! Its sills are on the floor at the lowest point, while the pan is still off the ground! Does that make sense!!!!! And the thing drives nice!!!!!

Cheers N!

jenz58 路

Thanks for the info for Melbourne:thumb

KruizinKombi 路

Channelling is awesome, the only way to go ultra-low. I've been looking at my squareback all week and almost changed my mind about disposing of it!

kustomkool 路

Brians car rocks.

11CAB 路

Very cool Col, love the wheels. They're the same style I'm using on my manx.
Graham

SKEWtYpe3 路

sorry unity but this is lower !
but cant get very far as it is on the pan with no supnsion or nothing馃檪
:bounce

[Edited on 3-2-2003 by SKEWtYpe3]

Unity-28 路

Dont know how its lower, cause when the bags on Brians car are deflated, the "SILLS" sit on the ground, not the rails!!!!! BUT!!!!!!

N!

KruizinKombi 路

Just wait until I get the squareback out of the way and start on the fastie..... 馃榾

Unity-28 路

The Lower the Better!!!!!! Cant wait til I get the body on to the pan, to see how low it will sit with the Bags!!!!!! Want to see whether or not I will have to channel it to get it as low as I want it!!!

Cheers N!

kustomkool 路

U 28 cant wait to see it man, just put a ultra low beam in the beetle cb perf dropped spindles, wanna bag the back so I can make her dance.

Unity-28 路

KK, I should have the bags within a couple of weeks, when I get them, you can have a look to see how easy it is to do!!!! I have to see if I can still narrow the beam with bags though!!!! I will set it all up first, and then I will see!!!! I want to lay pan!!!! and srcape the plates!!! and freak ppl out!!!!! and......

HEHEHE N!

Joe_G 路

Going to the tip!!!! 馃檨 We restore worse than that over here 馃榾

GENEBERG 路

If channeled in which Brians car is ,It is has to be lower. But my bike is much lower than his bike.

KruizinKombi 路

Unity, easy maybe, but not cheap. I don't drive a VW because I can spend lots of money on it - quite the opposite. 馃檪

Joe_G, come and get it, you're welcome to it. I wish someone would take it away, even if only to cut patch panels out of for another restoration. 馃檪

Unity-28 路

In my last post on this topic, I said for KK to come and have a look at how "easy" the air bag process will be! I actually meant Kustomkool, but KruisinKombi, you are more than welcome to have a look!! From what I am told though the bag Kit I have bought is a very easy one to install, And with the help of a few guys that do bags for a living, I think it will be one days work!!!! It is nowhere near as complicated as bagging a truck!!!! Actually, what I should do is post pics of the kit, in its Knocked down form!!!

Cheers N!

Unity-28 路

The other thing is this!!! How much do you think you need to redo/replace all your total suspension? Alot! With 1500-2 grand you have new suspension and the choice of going up and down!!!!

Cheers N!

KruizinKombi 路

I played some more today. 馃榾

wiseoldub 路

KruizinKombi 路

Sorry guys, I haven't been able to find them either, so I've posted them again under Buying/Selling.

Terry is first in line, he emailed me some time ago. Josh is next in line. 馃檪

Nice set up to get the imagination running.
And if it turns out like whats in my imagination then it would be " Running Wild ".

KruizinKombi 路

It has certainly got my imagination running!!! Since cutting it up, I have sat for hours looking at it, looking inside the pillars to see how they're constructed, planning tubs, etc, etc. AT 2 x 9" and 2 x 5" cutoff blades, it has been very cheap entertainment and a steep learning curve.

Incidently, I hope nobody has been fooled into thinking that a roof-chop can be done this easily. I doubt very much that simply cutting the pillars through with an angle grinder could ever satisfy the requirements of any semi-competent auto-engineer for registration purposes. Welding pillars together in a single plane seriously weakens them.

After cutting this one up, I think I'd need to dissassemble the body at the welds to do this properly. Heaps of work involved! :o

kustomkool 路

It takes 3 square back complete roof to successfully chop it.It takes alot of time and shaping and is hard to pull of,But you if you source up a bit of Kustom knowlege you will find it is quite easy,But of course youre faced with the delema of a Engineering certificate,But you could always put it on a trailer and just show it,I know rodders who have done crazy stuff that just wouldnt get a engineering certificate not ever! But come show time they would go to Vicroads and get a Temp driving permit and cruise to the show,And when they got pulled over by the cops Nearly always!they simply said"Where on our way to the Mechanics to get a bit done for the Road Worthy".Or just put it on a trailer and drag it to the show.

decked dubby 路

Trailer queens, what a waste of time!!! What's the point of a undrivable car?:puke

KruizinKombi 路

KustomKool, it depends on how you do it. There are several ways to chop the roof of a vehicle. 馃槈

Decked Dubby, that's what airbags are for!:thumb
